Star Cat Studio is a series of upcoming online animated shows by Star Cats Studios (Tennelle Flowers, Captain Morwen, The Name Is Water, and Avalon Roselin).

There are three separate “arcs” in Star Cat Studio. The first episode of the first arc, Clouded Moon, released on the Star Cat Studio YouTube channel in December 26, 2020, and episode two is already in the early stages of production.

Clouded Moon: Follows Spottedshadow, Wildfur, Dawnfrost, Wolfthorn and Goldenpelt as main characters. The first major conflict is a large, unidentified animal killing cats in the Lakefront Alliance. Has a full character list here

Black Sun: Follows the next generation after Clouded Moon. Currently in planning.

Endless Storm: Picks up after a significant time skip from Black Sun with an all-new cast of characters. Currently in planning.

     General Tropes
  • Action Girl: A standard trope for anything based on Warrior Cats, there are plenty of female characters who fight in this series.

  • All Genes Are Codominant: The creators have mentioned they aren’t taking realistic cat genetics (or realistic coat colors) into account when designing the characters.
    • For example, Wildfur is a calico tom, and Indigoeyes is described as a “gray calico tom”.
    • Kittens usually resemble at least one parent, but not always, and definitely not in ways that would be biologically possible in the real world

  • Alternate Animal Affection: Primarily leaning against each other, brushing cheeks, and nose boops

  • Ambiguously Gay / Ambiguously Bi: The creators have stated on stream that several of the characters are LGBT, and only two of the main cast (Swiftmask and Wildfur) are heterosexual. That said, many of these characters are minor and there probably won’t be time to explore this on screen.
    • Possibly averted/subverted as the creators have said they want to try to find ways to show these identities on screen, or at least in the companion novelization

  • Animal Naming Conventions: But of course

  • Anyone Can Die: Roselin has told fans to be careful who they get attached to, and has mentioned pushing for more characters to die
    • Sunfire and Breezeheart don’t even make it through the trailer!

  • Babies Ever After: Given that the Clans are extended families and this series covers multiple generations, this is kind of a Foregone Conclusion

  • Dark Is Not Evil: Most cats with dark coats are not villainous. Special mention goes to Spottedshadow, a black she-cat with vitiligo, who is one of the Clouded Moon’s main protagonists and has a friendly and caring personality.

  • Invasion of the Baby Snatchers: Field Colony is known for stealing kittens from outside of the Lakefront Alliance

     Clouded Moon
  • A Death in the Limelight: Sunfire and Breezeheart receive a small focus in the prologue of the novelization, right before they both die

  • The Ace: Goldenpelt and Dawnfrost both seem to be this
    • Despite her lack of popularity in the colony, Spottedshadow is mentioned to be as good of a ranger as Goldenpelt and has been given two newclaws by the start of Clouded Moon.
    • Wrensong was apparently able to pick up herbs easily when she became a healer in training, while her brother Thornheart struggled with it but has visions from The Spirits Beyond

  • All Girls Want Bad Boys: Dawnfrost’s love interest is cool and seemingly laid back Wolfthorn, who at one point left RiverClan
    • Spottedshadow falls for troubled outcast Wildfur (though to be fair, she’s a bit of an outcast herself for different reasons)

  • All of the Other Reindeer: Spottedshadow is treated as an outcast by some of her colony-mates because of her closeness to cats from other Colonies.
    • Wildfur is largely an outsider in his own colony, and rarely interacts with his colony-mates.

  • Ambition is Evil: Goldenpelt’s ambition to become colony captain will almost certainly lead him to becoming an antagonist
    • Rainfall is a direct example. Her ambition to become captain of River Colony led her to murder Brightscale
    • Dawnfrost is a subversion. She wants to be captain of Oak Colony but there is no indication that she will do anything villainous to become captain

  • An Arm and a Leg: Spottedshadow’s father, Missingfoot, lost a leg in a fight with a fox.

  • Beneath the Mask: Wolfthorn appears to be a cool and relaxed tom, but in fact is the only cat who knows Rainfall murdered his father Brightscale and became detached from River Colony out of fear of retaliation.

  • Big Bad: Rainfall will most likely be this, especially to Wolfthorn

  • The Bully: Boulder to Pool, and to a lesser extent Lily to Moss
    • Among the adults, Fernface could be seen as a bully to Spottedshadow

  • Childhood Friend Romance: Goldenpelt wants this with Spottedshadow; Wildfur actually gets it
    • Dawnfrost and Wolfthorn fell in love as apprentices, but it’s unclear if they’ll continue their relationship

  • Clashing Cousins: Moss and Lily, specifically. the Allegiances confirms that Moss and Lily’s fathers are littermates which makes them direct cousins as well as bitter rivals

  • Dark and Troubled Past: Wildfur was apprenticed early with his brother Patch. Because they were young, they were restricted in their training, causing them to become restless. A tragic accident while exploring the territory alone led to Patch’s death, leaving Wildfur feeling bitter and alone in Marsh Colony.

  • Delicateand Sickly: What Field Colony thought Spottedshadow might be when her white spots started appearing. This ended up being wrong.

  • Disappeared Dad: Goldenpelt’s father Russetpelt died before the series began

  • The Dragon: Iceclaw to Rainfall

  • Forbidden Romance: Wildfur and Spottedshadow, and Dawnfrost and Wolfthorn. As of the beginning of the series it’s unclear if Dawnfrost and Wolfthorn will continue to pursue their relationship or not because of this conflicting with Dawnfrost’s ambition to be captain.
    • Wrensong took her brother Thornheart’s place as Oak Colony's healer newclaw to avoid him and Snowfeather’s relationship from being forbidden. She then decided to have her own forbidden relationships with Hailstorm in Oak Colony and Smallpebble in Marsh Colony
    • Spottedshadow’s former apprentice Nightpool is expecting kits with a loner

  • Foregone Conclusion: Spottedshadow will end up with Wildfur, not Goldenpelt
    • Goldenpelt will become an antagonist, though it’s unclear if he’ll get a redemption arc or not

  • Geek Physiques: Pool is smaller and thinner than most other Marsh Colony toms and seems to get bullied for it

  • Love Triangle: Goldenpelt, Spottedshadow, and Wildfur
    • Less prominent, Wolfthorn, Dawnfrost, and Rowanstorm

  • Meaningful Name: Standard for anything based on Warriors, but especially for cats in Field Colony due to Hazelfur’s very literal taste in names.
    • After he lost his leg, Blackpelt was renamed to Missingfoot.
    • Spottedshadow was originally named Raven, but was given a new “prefix” for her ranger name that reflects the spots which appeared on her pelt

  • Mentor Occupational Hazard: Averted; several of the main characters are or have been mentors to apprentices and are still alive.

  • Missing Mom: Spottedshadow’s mother Whitebelly was killed by a fox when she was an apprentice, before the series begins. Dawnfrost’s mother, Flamecloud, is never mentioned outside the Allegiances/family tree.

  • Mysterious Stranger: Brother of a Starless Night, who Wolfthorn met on his travels away from the Colonies. It’s unclear what role Brother will play in the series.

  • Unknown Rival: Shrewpelt is this to Dawnfrost, who seems unaware of his jealousy

  • Unlucky Childhood Friend: Goldenpelt to Spottedshadow
    • Possibly Rowanstorm to Dawnfrost, depending on how her feelings toward Wolfthorn develop
    • And Fernface for Goldenpelt, despite becoming mates with Jaggedstripe

     Black Sun

  • Famous Ancestor: At least some of the main characters in Black Sun are descended from some of the leads of Clouded Moon.

     Endless Storm

  • Famous Ancestor: Presumably some of the main characters in Endless Storm will be distantly related to the leads from Clouded Moon and/or Black Sun, though this will likely not be mentioned very much due to a longer time skip.
