RomCom Manga Chan (Original Anime & Manga)note  is an original YouTube channel where manga is written out and read out loud by various actors. It is a Rom Com anthology series starring its characters Kent Honda and Mary Toyota playing out romantic situations, with the occasional one-off character.

While Kent and Mary have set roles throughout the stories, their appearances, ages, and origins differ wildly from story to story.

RomCom Manga Chan features examples of the following tropes:

  • Abandon the Disabled: Sara Mitsubishi dumps Kent and abandons him at the hospital after a stroke left him disabled.
  • Abusive Mom: Mary Toyota's mother forced her to drop out of high school and work to provide for her. However, she squandered Mary's income money on playing around.
  • All Girls Want Bad Boys: Some stories have Kent's previous love interest dump him for a delinquent-looking guy, who wouldn't look out of place in a Netorare manga.
  • Arranged Marriage:
  • Bad Boss: Ayame Gouyoku is a sales staff employee who abuses subcontractor employees, especially Kent Honda. She passes him off as an employee of hers and forces him into a job interview at Mary Toyota's firm, thus making herself a subcontractor. Eventually, Kent gets tired of Ayame's abuse, but she comes back to force an apology out of him until Mary calls her out for making contract fraud.
  • Boyish Short Hair: The episode I helped a man on the ground who turned out to be a rich hot girl features a short-haired Mary Toyota, who is cast as the daughter of a company president who made her dress like a boy since he doesn't have sons to inherit his company to.
  • Brainy Baby: "Hot girl seduced me and wants a baby with me after finding out I'm single!" Kent claims that his baby sister, Rin, is extremely smart; he can also understand Rin's babble while she helps him on his date with Mary.
  • Bullying a Dragon: Netoda laughs at delinquent Mary upon finding out she is naïve, to which she stamps him through the chalkboard in retaliation.
  • Casual Crucifixion: At the end of "I Was Cheated By My Girlfriend, The Scariest Girl In Class Became Sweet To Me Instead," the last scene of Netoda shows him tied to a cross outside school grounds, implied to be done by Mary as a last act of revenge for bullying Kent.
  • Childhood Friends: Subverted in this story. Sara Mitsubishi teased and bullied protagonist Lui Nissan since they were kids.
  • The Dreaded: In this story, Mary is a notorious delinquent who never lost a fight and was feared by everyone in the school; even the womanizing Netoda quivers in fear at the sight of her. However, she is naïve concerning romance and love.
  • Dub Name Change: Downplayed. Since characters' names are written in katakana, Kento and Mari are changed into Kent and Mary, respectively
  • Gold Digger: Some episodes have Kent's previous girlfriend/wife/fiancee dump him for being poor.
    • "I Was Dumped By My GF Because She Thought I Am Poor, But I Actually Have Inherited Lots Of Money": Sara dumps Kent once he shows her his house, to which she calls him poor despite his being the manager of a construction company. Later on, she dates an elite employee named Subaru to rub it in. However, when Mary dared her to go to Kent's house, Sara finds out his house looked fancier than before and Subaru told her Kent was loaded. When Sara blurted out she would never dump Kent if she knew he was rich, Subaru dumps her and calls off the engagement.
    • "My GF Broke Up With Me Because I Was Paralyzed but My Hot Therapist Marries Me": Sara Mitsubishi tells a bedridden Kent at the hospital that she wanted to marry him because of his status as a CEO, but she calls off the engagement for becoming disabled after suffering a stroke. However, after his therapist, Mary Toyota helped him recover, a haggard, worn-out Sara shows up on the street and begs Kent for money; it turns out she fell for a marriage scam after calling off the engagement and became deeply sunk in debt.
    • "My Gf Dumped Me For Buying A Cheap Ring, Years Later I'm Now Rich And She Wants Me Back": Reina Mitsubishi dumps Kent for giving her a cheap wedding ring and throws it on the floor. Later on, when she attends Kent and Mary's wedding to make fun of the bride, Reina finds out she is a popular model for the clothes designed by Kent, who currently earns 1 billion yen a year. After the wedding ended, she had the gall to beg Kent to take her back and accuse Mary of being the gold digger, but Kent defends her while the new couple calls Reina out.
    • "My Girlfriend Who Left Me For Being Poor, Came Back When She Saw I'm Successful Now": Chihiro dumped Kent for focusing on his career as a mangaka and left the house with a delinquent-looking man as he was a successful businessman. Later on, when Kent becomes a successful manga artist, she waits on his doorstep to apologize to him as the man was implied to have dumped her and she lost a lot of money in a forex trade.
    • "My Girlfriend Dumped Me And Threw Water At Me, But Hot Lady Wants Me Instead": Kirara Nozaki dumped Akira Hino when his company went bankrupt and outright tells him she only wanted him because he worked in a giant company. When they meet again, Kirara brags to him about her rich boyfriend, only for Akira's new boss Megumi Yano to reveal that the man was married and his company went bankrupt six months ago.
    • "A Man Tries To Marry My Hot & Deaf Childhood Friend For Money, And I Saved Her": Ryota is a male example as he's willing to enter an Arranged Marriage with Masaki's deaf childhood friend Chinatsu to get access to her family's money. Moreover, he was willing to take advantage of Chinatsu's disability to make her an obedient wife and send any humiliating pictures of her to emasculate Masaki.
    • "My Cheater GF Dumped Me, But A Hot Single Mom Wants To Make A Family With Me": Reiko Hori only hooked up with protagonist Takeru Miyachi because he said he owned a restaurant. However, he wasn't rich enough to her liking and she dumped him for a new boyfriend, canceling their reservation to a restaurant. However, when they meet again six months later, she tried to get back with him because her rich new boyfriend was stingy, but he rejects her for her trouble and confesses his feelings for Yumi.
    • "I Lost My Fiancee To My Bestfriend, But I'm Actually Marrying An Even Hotter Girl": Shiho Hatanaka dumps her introverted childhood friend, Yuki Ono, for his flashy, extroverted best friend, Daisuke Hirayama, after finding Daisuke was a good-looking elite. However, it turns out that Yuki and Shiho weren't a couple in the first place, and he was going to marry his boss Mary Sonoda.
    • "My Ex Hated My Car & Dumped Me, Years Later I Save A Hot Girl Who Loves Cars &.." [sic]: Mika Suzuki only dated Kent Honda because he was a self-employed man. While they were dating, she played the part of a nice young woman to manipulate him into buying expensive stuff for her. However, when Mika sees Kent driving an old, beat-up car, she derides it as ugly and dumps the poor guy. Later on, when she finds out Kent is actually the CEO of a booming auto parts online retailer business and richer than her new fiancé, Subaru Ono, she tries to get back with him. When his new fiancée, Mary Toyota, shows up to confront her, Mika accuses her of going after Kent's money until Mary reveals she's the daughter of a rich landlord.
  • The Grovel: In stories where Kent's previous girlfriend dumps him, said girlfriend will eventually come back to Kent and beg him to take her back, only to be told off by either Kent or Mary.
    • Reiko broke up with Subaru and begged Kent to take her back when she found out he was dating popular girl Mary Toyota.
    • Chihiro waited at the doorstep of Mary and Kent's house to beg the latter to marry her since she sank in debt after losing money in a foreign exchange trade and begged him a million yen to pay the traders back.
  • Gyaru Girl: In this story, Mary is cast as one who likes video games and came to Kent's house to have a match with him at a game. She lost but fell in love with him.
  • Humiliation Conga: Kirara shows up at Akira's date with Megumi to flaunt her new rich boyfriend, but Megumi tears her illusions apart by revealing the man's big company went bust six months ago and he's actually married. Predictably, the old man tried to hit Megumi, but Akira stopped and drove him away while Kirara asked him. Eventually, the bankrupt president's wife found out and charged Kirara with a huge amount in compensation. As for the man himself, he is forced to work a construction job to pay back the loan sharks the money he borrowed for playing around.
  • Mind-Control Device: Some episodes center on the MC getting ahold of a hypnosis app and using it on his boss or a Tsundere childhood friend, who instantly falls in love with him in her hypnotized state.
    • "I Accidentally Showed My Hot Childhood Friend A Hypnosis App, Now She Acts Weird": Shuto Amane downloads a hypnosis app out of curiosity after being badgered by his childhood friend Lily Kitagawa, but he doesn't use it. However, Lily ends up seizing his phone and accidentally hypnotizes herself. At first, he has his doubts, but he eventually uses the app on her when he finds her crying at a bench after giving friendship chocolates to all her male classmates.
    • "My Hot Boss Seduced Me After I Accidentally Used A Hypnosis App On Her": A hypnosis app installed itself on Kent's phone after his supervisor Chiaki Mizuno chewed him out for his mistakes. When Mizuno showed up to ask him what was going on, he showed her the app in an attempt to get help for his phone only to accidentally hypnotize her into fawning all over him. However, it turns out the app was fake and Mizuno was the one who made it up.
  • Hypocritical Humor: When Kent takes his rich girlfriend Sara to a family restaurant, she complains about it... while still eating the food on her plate. Kent even lampshades it.
    Sara: Even so, bringing your girlfriend to a family restaurant on a date is... stupid!
    Kent: But you've been eating deliciously since we got here.
  • Idol Singer: Aoi was a former idol but she quit due to the CEO being too obsessed with her and became homeless. Kota met her and let her move into his house. When the CEO and his cronies showed up at Kota's work looking for her, he decided to get Aoi to try to get her away but a traffic accident occurred. Fortunately, the CEO and his cronies were arrested and put in prison for their crimes.
  • I Have No Son!: At the climax of "My Hot Senior Was Engaged To A Rude Guy, Then I Offered Marriage And She..." Shoga's father disowns him and cancels the arrangement upon seeing his bastard of a son trying to have his way with Mary Toyota.

  • Insidious Rumor Mill:
  • Japanese Delinquents: In this story, Mary Toyota is a notoriously strong delinquent, feared by everyone in the school. However, this is offset by her naïvete about romance.
  • Lady Looks Like a Dude: This story has Kent helping a guy who suffered an asthma attack at a mountain. After Sara dumped him for Rick and they fired Kent for it, he finds out the "guy" he helped is actually a girl named Mary Toyota, who is the rich daughter of a company president. She reveals that her father made her dress like a boy since he had no sons to inherit the company to.
  • Mugging the Monster: Sarah Mitsubishi and her boss/boyfriend Riku mocked the former's ex Kent for supposedly working for a small company, but when Mary offers to exchange business cards, they turn pale upon finding out she and Kent worked for their parent company.
  • Offended by an Inferior's Success: Yuto is a good looking jerk who looks down on the nerdy, plain-looking Satoru, only acting nice to him because his dad has free reference books. When he sees Satoru hanging out with Yuri, the Madonna of the school, he gets upset and envious, despite having a girlfriend himself. The reason why is because Yuta feels that Amane, his girlfriend, isn't as pretty as Yuri, and he thinks it's wrong for a plain-looking guy to have a better-looking girlfriend than a handsome guy.
  • Official Couple: Kent Honda and Mary Toyota, full stop.
  • Punny Name:
    • This story has Usoda and Netori, whose names are a play on the expression "uso da"note  and a subgenre of Netorare.
    • Like Netori mentioned above, the guy Tsukimi dumps Kent for is named Netoda, another pun on the aforementioned genre.
  • Revenge Romance: This early story has Kent and Mary hook up to get revenge against his previous girlfriend Reiko, who dumped him for Subaru. However, it eventually develops into a genuine romance after Reiko gets exposed.
  • Rich Bitch: If Kent's previous girlfriend/wife is not a gold digger, expect her to be this instead.
    • Sara is an rich young woman who treated Kent like a slave in every date. He even describes their relationship as "a young lady and her servant". She dumps him for taking her to a family restaurant named "Perfectly Lonely".
  • Sexual Extortion:
  • Second Love: In stories where the MC is dumped by his previous girlfriend, he will eventually meet a prettier, more loyal girlfriend and more often than not, will be the one who tells off the ex for hurting the MC.
  • Struggling Single Mother: Yumi Onodera from "My Cheater GF Dumped Me, But A Hot Single Mom Wants To Make A Family With Me" is a single mom who struggled after her husband ran out on her after telling him she was pregnant with their daughter, Hana. She comes to help in Takeru's grandfather's dish shop after he gave them a ticket to an expensive restaurant after his girlfriend Reiko canceled on him.
  • Theme Naming: A variant where their surnames are car brand names, but later stories completely dropped this.
  • Traitor Shot: Mika Suzuki gets one after she and Kent became a couple; she looks at the camera while calling him an idiot and gloating she's going to use him as her personal ATM.
    Mika Suzuki: What an idiot. I can't believe it's so easy to deceive an introverted guy. Now I've got myself my own personal ATM.
  • Universal-Adaptor Cast: Downplayed. No matter the setting of the story, Kent Honda and Mary Toyota will always be the same age as each other.
  • Upper-Class Twit: Noboru is a flashy rich guy who makes fun of Kent for his cheap clothes and seeks to have Mary Toyota all to himself. When he found out Kent was richer than him, he is willing to beat him to death for "stealing" Mary from him.
  • White-Collar Crime: Ayame Gouyoku passed her subcontractor Kent as one of her own employees to make herself a subcontractor to Mary Toyota's firm, which is contract fraud. After Mary calls her out for her stunt, Kent narrates that Ayame committed several instances of contract fraud in the past, to which she had to resign.
