OnyxKing, formerly known as OnyxKing67, is a YouTuber who makes Super Mario 64 Bloopers, beginning on January 30th, 2014. While it’s obvious that he was inspired by SMG4, the Trope Codifier of the genre, he also uses elements that are more unique to his series, including Original Characters like famous superhero Grasshopper, caffeine-addicted spider Calem, and adorable cactus Hugh.

Check out his channel here. He also has his own website.

OnyxKing provides examples of:

  • Aborted Arc:
    • "Smashdom" was intended to be a series, but only one video of it was released in 2018.
    • "The End of Luigi?" hinted at Death's return in "Mariovania", which never follows through.
    • Waluigi’s Captain Wah persona hasn’t been used since "What is Wario Up too…", not even for the rest of "Revenge of Zelus".
    • The ending of "Mario vs Friday Night Funkin'" indicates that Monster from that game will take his revenge on the heroes for what happened to his boss. In the Sequel Episode, Monster doesn’t come back at all.
  • Ambiguous Gender: It's intentionally left in the air what gender Hugh is, and when OnyxKing asks, he gets a Non-Answer. They only get their male name because Luigi named them after their want to hug people.
  • Arc Villain: Zelus is the main antagonist of both the Broken Computer Arc and "Revenge of Zelus". In the former, she’s trying to break out of the computer she’s trapped in. In the latter, she wants revenge on OnyxKing for leaving her there.
  • Boy Band: Peach makes Mario, Luigi, SMG4, and OnyxKing form one in "The Italian Hobos".
  • Butt-Monkey: Starlow, to the point where there used to be a counter for how many times she got "owned".
  • The Cameo: Once in a blue moon, an SMG4 character will make a brief appearance in his videos. Most notably, Melony has appeared in her melon form in "La Mémesistance" and her human form in "Mario Goes Caroling".
  • Character Death:
    • MC Hammer Bro meets with a violent explosion in "WarioWare Gold Rush", and the next video confirms that this killed him.
    • Zelus dies at the end of "Revenge of Zelus".
  • Character Development: After "Revenge of Zelus", Peach develops an interest for Yaoi that she hasn’t had in previous videosnote .
  • Christmas Episode: OnyxKing sometimes makes videos for Christmas, to the point of having a playlist of them. "Red Dead Mario", which was this disguised as a Cowboy Episode, is absent from the playlist, likely because Mario’s Christmas gift to Bowser is kept as a surprise throughout the entire video.
  • Content Warnings: The very early bloopers had this, before they were dropped within the year of the channel’s creation.
  • Cowboy Episode: "Red Dead Mario", a parody of Red Dead Redemption.
  • Deliberately Monochrome: The premise of "Mario in Black and White", where Mario pisses off Ashley to the point where she turns the entire Earth black and white.
  • Driving Test: The conflict in "The Driving Lesson" starts when Mario gets his and OnyxKing’s licenses suspended through the former’s reckless driving, forcing them to retake their driving tests.
  • Early-Installment Weirdness:
    • The text font in earlier videos was different.
    • The opening OnyxKing logo was much more primitive in the early videos. To be fair, it changed overtime regardless.
  • Expy: As it’s obvious where the inspiration for his videos comes from, some of his characters are similar to SMG4’s.
    • Starlow is his equivalent to Bob. They are both characters based on an existing Nintendo series who speak with computer voices and get beat up a lot.
    • EM64 is his version of SMG3. They’re both troublemaking Mario recolors who serve as the Big Bad of the series. Both characters (used to) compete against each other in the annual "Battle of the Retarted Villains".
    • OnyxKing himself is obviously the SMG4 of his own series, being the Mario recolor Author Avatar in the videos he makes, especially after the SMG4 character leaves his show. It’s worth noting, though, that OnyxKing shares some similarities to Fishy Boopkins as well, as they both idolize Hatsune Miku, making him more of a Composite Character.
    • Subverted with Zelus, an evil Inkling who serves as the antagonist of two major story arcs. Characters constantly call her "evil Meggy" or something similar, but they’re very different in terms of personality and abilities.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: The climax of "Revenge of Zelus" makes it clear that both Zelus and EM64, for all their desires for revenge and world conquest, respectively, care deeply about each other. Zelus teleports EM64 away from the castle to save him from a fight he couldn't win, despite his objections and claims that she's "irreplaceable", and when Zelus is killed, EM64 reacts with a Big "NO!".
  • Fake Crossover: His videos star avatars of himself and SMG4, but SMG4 himself has no involvement.
  • Fanboy: OnyxKing is one to Hatsune Miku.
  • Five Stages of Grief: "The Death of MC" shows the main cast going through this after MC Hammer Bro’s death. Strangely, each character goes through one stage, as opposed to one character going through all of them.
  • Halloween Episode: Just like with Christmas, he has a playlist of all the videos he’s made for Halloween. Strangely, "The End of Luigi?" is absent from the playlist.
  • Instructional Film: "How to Train Your Yoshi" is a parody of this; with Mario as the host, it can only go as planned.
  • Leitmotif: Zelus has a custom-made theme for all of her appearances starting with the second episode of "Revenge of Zelus", entitled "Evil Beneath the Surface". It’s made by the YouTube channel Blocked Content.
  • Multi-Part Episode: "OnyxKing vs The Pokemon Championships" is split into two parts.
  • Put on a Bus: Quite literally with SMG4, who leaves the series on an actual bus following the end of "Revenge of Zelus". The in-universe reason for this is because he’s working on Meta Runner in Australia, but OnyxKing’s out-of-universe reason is because he wants to stand out from SMG4 more.
  • Running Gagged: The Starlow Owned Counter disappears sometime before "Revenge of Zelus", with OnyxKing himself getting tired of it.
  • Sequel Episode:
    • "Will Mario Survive Bendy and the Dark Revival?" is the long-awaited followup of "Mario and the Ink Machine". Both videos are parodies of Bendy and the Ink Machine.
    • "Mario vs Friday Night Funkin' 2" is the direct followup to "Mario vs Friday Night Funkin".
  • Shout-Out: In "The OnyxGang play Among Us", Luigi plays the eponymous game in the castle basement, as a reference to Weegeepie.
  • The Speechless:
    • In what little OnyxKing uses of him, Yoshi, who was capable of speech in SMG4, gets no dialogue through text and only communicates through his voice clips from the Mario games and memes. Though he does talk a little bit in "Stupid Mario Bros. Wonder".
    • Played with in regards to the Reaper in "The Mario Orpheus". He doesn't communicate through text, but his voice clips from the game he's from have enough variety in the things he says to carry the story.
    • Hugh the Cactus doesn't speak. It's implied through their infantile behavior that this is because they're too young do so.
  • Story Arc: Another thing implemented from SMG4 is videos forming into an arc.
    • Broken Computer Arc has SMG4’s computer acting strangely, and it turns out there’s something inside trying to get out.
    • "Revenge of Zelus", formerly known as the Zelus Arc, has a now-freed Zelus planning to get her revenge on OnyxKing for trapping her there. She even goes as far as to work for EM64, who was recently fired by Bowser for trying to assassinate him and take over his army.
    • Currently in development is "Hidden Memories", which shows memories of Mario’s past that he was apparently trying to forget about, and they apparently involve high school and him being a genius.
  • Suddenly Speaking:
    • Mario and Luigi usually communicate through their in-game sound effects or memes, but they speak voiced lines in "Another Night at Freddy Fazbear's Pizzaria (Act II)", courtesy of Foxifyer.
    • OnyxKing starts voicing himself in 2019, dropping the use of memes and other sound effects for his avatar to communicate (at least for the most part).
    • Yoshi, who is usually The Speechless in OnyxKing's videos, gets at least one line of dialogue in "Stupid Mario Bros. Wonder".
  • Superhero Episode:
    • "The Mushroom League", where the OnyxKing cast form the titular superhero league to stop Dark Star from wreaking havoc.
    • The second episode of "Revenge of Zelus", in addition to being the debut of superhero character Grasshopper, stars Waluigi training to become the superhero Captain Wah.
  • Truer to the Text: Most of OnyxKing’s videos follow his video game and movie parodies more closely than SMG4’s "If Mario Was In…" series. For example, "Mario’s Basics" has Mario encounter all of the enemies and obstacles that "If Mario was in... Baldi's Basics" didn’t have time for.
  • Welcome Episode: The first video on the channel is literally titled "A Stupid Welcome".
  • Villain Protagonist: "Red Dead Mario" stars Mario playing the villainous and feared outlaw "Mario Morgan"note , who is on a train heist for something valuable. This gets subverted when it turns out that what he was after all along was a Christmas gift for Bowser.

Yes, they actually DID kill Miku, albeit on accident.

How well does it match the trope?
