Also known as DanMachi Abridged.

An Abridged Series of Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? created by YaroShien, "How To Be An Adventurer" follows the exploits of Bell Cranel and his goddess/advisor/fuck-buddy Hestia, as they attempt to make a name for themselves as a Familia in the cutthroat business of Dungeon Crawling in the city of Orario. However, while he may face formidable foes in the form of frightening monsters in the Dungeon, Bell's most persistent, voracious adversaries are instead the various women who all seem to want to jump his bones.

How To Be An Adventurer contains examples of:

  • All Women Are Lustful: The Series. There isn't a woman - outside of Lili, Loki, and Ryu, at least - that isn't after Bell for sex. The best example of this, however, is Hestia, who despite engaging in nigh constant intercourse with the sole member of her Familia, continually has sex on the brain, specifically with Bell. At one point, Bell even lampshades this:
Bell: I swear, the women in my life are going to wake up one day and say, "Maybe I'm just being a little bit too thirsty!"
  • Autobots, Rock Out!: For the moments when truly epic moments occur in the series, some fitting music plays in the background. For example:
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: As in canon, it is a primary reason as to why Lili joins the Hestia Familia, and is willing to do anything to make up for her mistreatment of Bell. See Easily Forgiven down below for more.
  • Berserk Button: For Hestia, it's anyone trying to hit on Bell. For Loki, just so much as mentioning her brother, Thor, is enough to send her into a fit of rage.
  • Big, Screwed-Up Family: The Greek Gods come in first. The Norse ones are a close second.
  • Cloud Cuckoolander: Ainz's head is a bit... out there. This can cross into Heroic Comedic Sociopath territory, as she's shown internally debating with herself why she should care about the concept of keeping her party members alive (and admitting to herself during this moment that everything seems to turn her on).
  • Dare to Be Badass: When confronted with a minotaur once again, Bell chooses to face his fears after being fed up with nearly everything in his life, deciding that if he's going to die against the beast, then he's going to go down swinging. And he wins.
  • Easily Forgiven: Even after Lili betrayed Bell and left him to die, he still saved her life when her comrades left her to a similar fate. His reason for doing so is that even though she was pretending to be his friend, Lili was one of the few women in his life that didn't want his dick (a fact that both he and Lili admit made his life kind of pathetic). He valued that non-sexual relationship, and wanted to keep being friends with Lili.
    • Not so much with Hestia, though. She makes it quite plain that she doesn't like Lili, is very unhappy about what she did, and is not going to let Lili use her bad experiences with other adventurers as an excuse for it. The only reason Hestia lets her be part of the familia is because Bell is much more forgiving than her. She also pointedly warns Lili that, if she does something like that again, it won't go well for her.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: Hermes. According to Hestia, Aphrodite was this, too.
    • No one was mourning the "pig fuck guy" when he bit the dust, and treated his death with nonchalance.
  • Funny Background Event: Both times Bell goes shopping for armor, Welf can be heard arguing with the owner of the store about the former's armor pricing.
  • Heroic Comedic Sociopath: Bell definitely qualifies. While he has his moments of silliness like the rest of the cast, most of the time he's rather competent and scary crazy when it comes to killing monsters. When we're first introduced to him in Episode 1, he notes the reason for him being covered in blood is because a troop of goblins were laughing at him, so he thought to himself, "Let's see how much longer they'll laugh after I'm walking around covered in the blood of their fucking friends. Then I slaughtered most of them. Then the rest of them." To quote Lili:
Lili: You are either too dumb, or too scary. There is no inbetween.
  • Ironic Echo: Welf delivers one to Bell, who had delivered a similar warning to Lili back in the end of Episode 2. Bell himself even notes how ironic that is.
  • Mistreatment-Induced Betrayal: The reason that Lili turned on Bell in Episode 4 is the belief that he's just like all the other adventurers that pushed her around, so she decided to leave him high and dry before he ever got the chance. He calls her out on her flawed logic, as he's been treating her well.
    • Further called out by Hestia, who points out that both Bell suffered when his grandfather was gone, and the gods were a mess when Zeus disappeared. Just because they all suffered, it didn't give Lili the right to pull the stunt she did with Bell (and warns that if she did that again, she'd punish Lili personally).
  • No-Holds-Barred Beatdown: Bell is on the receiving end of one from Ainz, who is either just beating him up or training him (he honestly can't tell).
  • Only Sane Man: Bell, Lili, and Misha, to name a few, and even Bell's a little bit bonkers most of the time. However, when compared to Hestia, who's brain is about as sexually-charged as Panty Anarchy, he definitely comes off as the sane one in his Familia.
  • Pædo Hunt: Zanis is treated like this in-universe by everyone. Even Apollo.
  • Parental Issues: Apollo has daddy issues. Then again, his father is Zeus.
Loki: Haha! Someone has daddy issues.
Freya: Are you really one to talk, Loki?
  • Recovered Addict: What Lili is aiming to be after Episode 11.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Bell curls up and rolls away screaming when Ainz tries to make him her pet. He tries again upon meeting her again, but is unsuccessful.
  • Shout-Out: The series has a few.
  • Single-Target Sexuality: Hestia, Eina, Ainz, and Freya all have this for Bell. Hestia has them all beat because she actually gets to live and sleep with him, but that doesn't stop the rest of them from lusting after him like crazy, even after being threatened with bodily harm by Hestia.
  • Squee: Bell's reaction when he first uses his Firebolt ability.
  • Straight Gay: Ryu.
  • Take That, Scrappy!: Lefiya, aka Sidecock, is portrayed as an incompetent moron in the Sword Oratoria episode. She even straight up pisses herself during one fight.
  • Too Kinky to Torture: Tiona is apparently into rough play during sex... enough that when being grabbed by tendrils from monsters, she excitedly tells them to squeeze her harder. Once disappointed by them, she expresses frustration on how hard it is to get off (while punching through one of the monster's heads and being covered in acidic burns).
  • Voice of the Legion: Hestia employs this when warding off many of the women who have eyes on Bell. Ryu also uses this when scaring away the "pig fuck guy" (even giving him this nickname when she threatens to "fuck [him] like a pig").
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: Bell's emotion-dream in Episode 3 reveals that his encounter with the minotaur in Episode 1 traumatized him so much that he still hasn't gotten over it and developed a phobia of them.
  • Yandere: Hestia is this, at one point threatening to level an entire building with people still inside of it if Eina "so much as grazed [Bell's] dick, even by accident."
    • She has also gone on record that she will straight-up murder Bell if he even so much as looks at other women. Which is probably why Bell insists on not fucking any other women unless really pressured into it.
