Genma is actually Ryuusei's father.
Genma took Ryuusei in after Ryuusei saccidentally killed his mother with his Kotodama. It was then revealed that Genma had actually been watching over their family because of Ryuusei's ties to the Mitou family. This is explained that Genma is more or less his "uncle" and that Ryuusei's Disappeared Dad was a cousin of Genma's in the family who ran off.

But is this really true? The fact that Genma would follow anything the Mitou family would bade him seems pretty suspicious. And why should he care about some random kid of a distant relative?

Unless this random kid was actually his son?

It was hinted at that Ryuusei's mother was a prostitute. Genma's life was incredibly hard until he was able to utilize his Kotodama to make fast money. Perhaps before he claimed Himi...Genma was a client of Ryuusei's mom? Since Genma was accepted back into the Mitou family sixteen years prior to the start of Ze, and Ryuusei is in his early twenties in the present, it doesn't seem so far-fetched that Genma inadvertently fathered a child with a random woman.

It would explain the closeness between Genma and Ryuusei, in addition to their physical similarities and their similar personalities. Genma is quite sadistic with his teasing of Ryuusei, but overall it's incredibly harmless. Forcing Ryuusei on drinking binges and cursing him to never get an erection around women again might be a father doting on his son in a dysfunctional manner. Though he doesn't seem to want to make this known to Ryuusei, most likely because of the hatred Ryuusei holds for his supposed runaway dad.

Despite the presence he gives off, Genma really isn't as sadistic as he appears. Yet it seems odd he would stick his neck out and invest himself emotionally in some random kid. The truth might be that Genma is Ryuusei's father, but he doesn't want to spoil their current relationship by revealing the truth to him.

Benio was killed by her previous Kotodama master.
While Ouka and Benio do not get as much focus as other couples, details have been revealed about their background. Amongst these is that the first time they met Benio was not Ouka’s kami-sama, but that she served a different Kotodama master in the Mitou family. And this family member was abusive towards Benio. Benio obviously does not remember this but her expression is always that of melancholy, even when she’s happy.

So how did Benio end up with Ouka? Well, for Benio to be tied to Ouka she would have to be awakened by Ouka with Ouka’s name on her heart. Which means Benio had to have turned back into a Hakushi — thus she died. Given the fact that Ouka is very protective of Benio, and the fact that the couple lives in the Mitou mansion with Waki, what may have happened is that Benio’s previous abusive master killed her. Ouka may have stolen her Hakushi to take to Waki to bring Benio back tied to Ouka and not the abusive woman who killed her.

So even if Benio doesn’t remember her past with the woman who abused her, she must have suffered greatly. And even without the memories of it, her default melancholy expression may be the result of being the victim of a violent murder. One that Ouka is too glad for her to not remember.
