  • It isn't specified how the memory-extracting machine works. What if the reason Clone Emily doesn't precisely remember the memory of her younger self and her Mother walking, is that the memory-extractor machine is exactly that - a memory EXTRACTOR - and not a memory viewer, copier or duplicator?
    • But wait, it gets worse! What if, due to the clone degradation, Clone Emily had lost ALL memories of her mother - and only knew those were the memories she had lost, because through a predestination paradox, remembered being the child Emily Prime seeing the memory in the process of extraction? Can you imagine living most of your adult life without the memories of one of the most important people in your life and only half-knowing not only who that was, but that you knew you couldn't remember it? This is probably the source of the 'deep longing' Clone Emily has always felt.
    • Clone Emily lived all her lives, with all the sorrow and loss therein, and all she wanted was that humblest, purest, deepest of memories which she had unknowingly stolen from herself. At least getting it in the end brings her comfort and, probably, finally resolves the longing at the core of her being.
