The Legion of Super-Villains did not escape unscathed
- While one would understandably come to the conclusion that the Legion of Super-Villains faced no repercussions for killing Lana Lang due to retreating back to the 30th century before Superman could punish them, their utter fear at observing Superman's wrath and the fact that we don't know what became of them after they fled leaves the door open for Offscreen Karma. It's highly probable that Lightning Lord, Cosmic King and Saturn Queen were so horrified at Superman's display of ferocity that they gave themselves up to the authorities out of fear that he would somehow follow them from the past, if they didn't outright take their own lives to spare themselves of whatever punishment the Man of Steel might have inflicted upon them if he did go after them.
Mxyzptlk was Jesus
- He states he spent 2,000 years doing nothing, then 2,000 being saintly, then 2,000 a trickster, which ends "now" in what appears to be early 21st century (or how it would be imagined in the 1980's). Do the math.
The Legion changed history
- It was mentioned on the main page that the Leigon's clue to Superman seemed to be a paradox. A possible resolution for this is that originally Superman did defeat Mr. Mxyzptlk but in a pyrrhic victory (like Lois Lane dying). Superman could have then told the Legion to slightly change history by giving his past self a clue. Or alternatively the Legion figured all this out themselves and acted on their own. In fact it's possible that after Mr. Mxyzptlk died the Legion told Superman to go underground. Another possibility is that they were just able to predict the natural consequences of their change to history.
- It would be slightly out of character for Superman to not try to save everyone so most likely the Legion acted on their own.
When does Lois start lying?
We know that Lois doesn't tell the truth about how Superman met his end. So how much of the rest of the narrative is unreliable?- The simplest version is that Superman exposed himself to Gold Kryptonite to destroy his powers, and what Lois claims that he did afterwards is a lie. If this is the case, then the superheroes who came to the Fortress afterwards likely know the truth of his fate, as did Perry and Alice.
Superman didn't want to end up like Mxyzptlk
Maybe not the only reason to give up his powers, but one factor into it.With his powers, Clark could potentially live forever. And he saw what the utter boredom and detachment caused to Mr. Mxyzptlk. Who Wants to Live Forever? if that's the result?
