Brynn will return as an Elite Zombie
She was bitten by zombies and chose to take down a zombie onslaught with her using one last gunshot, yet her death wasn't shown on-screen.
  • Confirmed in Chapter 16, when a zombie queen hatches a pod to reveal her as a zombie queen.

King Trent will pose a threat if spared
According to Word of God, Trent had no intention of letting the main group and the Tower guards survive the trial by combat he held. This indicates potential treachery from him in case he was spared.
  • Semi-confirmed. If you spare him, he ends up being one of the traitors in Chapter 18. However, you can choose to spare the traitors instead of killing them (Trent included) in the same chapter. Whether he'll betray you again (in spite of being spared twice) remains to be seen.
    • Ultimately jossed. If spared all the way to Chapter 19, he trips over his cape and gets Devoured by the Horde before he could pose a threat as an individual, ironically giving you an additional defense point.

Dirk will perform a Face–Heel Turn (if he hasn't already done so offscreen)
With each chapter, Dirk becomes more and more bitter and resentful of Ash, even wishing that they had died instead of their sister back in Chapter 2 (he also almost sounded disappointed when Ash survived the Tower ambush in Chapter 9). All this gives the impression that he's either planning a coup, or he's already sold us out to Blackstock offscreen. Additionally, the description for Chapter 18 mentions an "unexpected betrayal".
  • Confirmed at the end of Chapter 17. In Chapter 18, you can choose to kill or spare him. If you spare him, he sacrifices himself to save you from Zombie Brynn in the final chapter.

Jeb, if you did not break the glass in Chapter 1, will finally reappear in the final chapter(s)/conflict, giving a huge boost to helping your colony/fight in some way or another
As seen with Chapter 4’s hard choice outcomes not coming into possible full effect until Chapter 14, Jeb could possibly come back as an 11th-Hour Ranger giving morale and fighters during a crucial moment to the colony. And who knows what other choices have effects in future chapters we haven’t seen yet?
  • Jossed, Jeb never appears again, even if he's alive.

The book will be a standalone
Any hope of Marcus Blackstock being the Big Bad of a potential "Book 2" went out the window in Chapter 18 after he was shot and killed in a Gun Struggle. The Solstice is mentioned to happen in Chapter 19, and the description for Chapter 20 mentions Ash being trapped by the Zombie Queen. There's a chance that the final battle will be with her, and that the book (and series) will end with either her death or Ash's (if Ash fared poorly enough in the last two chapters).
  • OR, there’s a sequel, but it’s not a direct sequel. Aka, the sequel is similar to how the It Lives series did their sequel:New MC, new supporting characters and story, BUT some of the characters from Book 1 make a cameo.
  • Confirmed. On 11 April 2022, Pixelberry confirmed that the book is a standalone and that Chapter 20 is the series finale. Ash survives, but Brynn sacrifices herself to kill the Zombie Queen.

The outbreak was started by that evil toy thing in the collection from Bloodbound book 2. With no more staff in the facility, it breached containment and used its power for a gruesome revenge on humanity.
