The Virus is an origin story for Star Trek's The Borg

  • The virus here seems like a very primitive version of The Borg honestly.
    • Though the virus on Earth was destroyed, the main virus is still out there, presumably assimilating other races.

The sequel would have been an Actionized Sequel.
Either the virus is revealed to still be alive or the Energy Being returns to take over again. The movie will feature a new cast, presumably a rag-tag team of soldiers that have become aware of the threat. It may also be revealed that the events of the the first movie wasn't the first time the virus tried to destroy humanity.

The Viruses home world/system was insectoid based evolution.
Most of its creations are insect-like in form, with only the slapdashed ones being humanoid, The Viruses evolutionary path went from insects, to insectoid to energy based, being a hive minded type, their intelligence was based on "the whole" rather than singular, hence why they evolved to energy being so fast.

The Virus wanted access to a hard line, not satellites.
The cast guess that it wants to use the Lord Howe Island to upload itself to the satellites, but what it actually wanted was the internet cables running nearby, the reason being that it learned upon it's arrival that the power surge it creates fries dishes, but a wired connection wouldn't cause that issue, it's also why it's creations are all wired into the ship, rather than it making simple short range transmitters (which would be within it's ability to create) to control them, they need a constant flow or the robots simply shut down.
