Samantha's right about Maria's motivation to ship her and Dave...but it's only one part of it.
In the 2011-12-02-3 strip, Samantha speculates that the reason Maria knows they would be good at parenting a genius on Leonardo da Vinci's level is because they would become parents to another genius. She's right. But that's only one part of the ultimate goal. Namely, Samantha and Dave will have a daughter. Said daughter will marry Marlon. Clay and Candide will also marry. Both couples will have a child. Those children marry. Their child? The harbinger of Earth's new renaissance. Or the Kwizatz Haderach.
  • Fuck me, we were wrong. Maria is Maria. She's Sam and Dave's Kid from the Future.
    • Got the Renaissance part half-right though.

We're going to see President Jeanine Argus someday.
She was in Milan promoting her state's interests. Building up a foreign policy cred, something desired in a presidential candidate, eh? Sure, she says this current election is her final one, but a lot can happen in four years.

Something is going to happen to Dave at the Olympics that endangers his place in the Mars mission.
Just sayin'. Look what happened the last time he played in a high-stakes basketball game: he won Havens U an NCAA championship but suffered such severe injuries that it killed any chance of playing in the NBA. Now he's playing for Olympic gold (and it'll probably be against his former teammates if the foreshadowing's any clue). He's probably going to get really injured.
  • Jossed.

The Dodos (or at least Paul and Mary) will go on the Mars trip.
  • Sigh. Confirmed.

Dodos are actually aliens and originated on Mars.
Why would two of the most hated characters in the comic end up on the Mars mission? Because there's a revelation coming about the species-namely, that it's not of this earth at all. Dodos originated on Mars and are actually more advanced in technology than Earth is-the only reason we never found out sooner is that the species practiced isolationism after humans drove the dodo colonists on Earth to extinction. On the plus side, the Martian dodos will be so refined that Paul and Mary will be seen as little more than court jesters.
  • Well, Mars does have robots that look kind of like them. Who's controlling them remains to be seen.
  • Not only is it Jossed, it's almost the complete reverse. The dodos plan to become Mars's new inhabitants.

There's gonna be immigration commentary centered around Baby Maria.
Never mind that under the laws as they stand, as the daughter of US citizens, Maria is entitled to US citizenship, someone is probably gonna raise a stink about her and claim she should be deported since she was born on Mars. A reminder: this was covered before in one of Holbrook's other comics.
