A theory
  • It seems likely that the hijackers had contingency plans in case Hammond killed Marks instead of the other way around, or if neither died and they decided to work together. After all, one says they've thought everything through a thousand times.
    • If Hammond killed Marks, they could continue their pressure on Hammond, threatening to expose him. (To the people on the ground, it would look like the two marshals had been working together, which would be even better.)
      • In this scenario, they could easily have told Hammond "now look at Bill's phone and see what you've gotten yourself into. Oh, and set your watch."
    • If both survived, they may have had a plan to kill Hammond with a dart.
