For the entire franchise in general, go here.

Patch has a great destiny awaiting her.

The four 'magic' ponies from "Up, Up And Away" seemed to know Patch and were cryptic about many things aside from that "The future is filled with possibilities. Until then, farewell!" Also, she is adopted by her known family, and her birth parents are nowhere to be mentioned. Her lust for adventure and excitement might also be a side-effect from having this destiny.

In fact, Patch is not what she seems at all.
See "Up, Up, and Away," add to that no knowledge of where she came from, having been adopted from an orphanage, and the fact that in the one with the story of the knight and the dragon, the knight's ghost appears only to her, and Bon Bon just missing the four magic ponies - this world does have magic, but it stays out of sight. However, there's one pony it consistently shows itself to when no one else is watching, and we don't know where that one pony came from.

So what is going on with Patch, anyway?
  • Patch originates from the timeline of another generation of the franchise (most likely FiM, which the main page for this series compares the aforementioned "Up, Up, and Away" to), but was transplanted to the Tales timeline as a foal for reasons unknown (possibly tied to the above-theorized great destiny).

There are Griffons, Abyssinians, Diamond Dogs, and/or Hippogriffs in this world.
Why else would Bon Bon's mother know how to prepare frog legs?

Patch and Rozy maintained correspondence as long as both were alive.

Tales Ponies cutie marks change after infancy
As a result, ponies don't actually name their kid till their permanent cutie mark comes in, hence why Bon Bon's youngest sibling simply is called Baby Pony.

The Cooking with Cupcake TV show didn't really call Bon Bon
Patch faked a phone call for her prank, just like she did with Melody.

Patch is descended from the same family as Squire
This would fit quite well with Squire’s ghost specifically appearing to her, and asking her for help with Basil, he trusts her due to sensing their connection. Squire is still a kid as a ghost, so Patch wouldn’t be directly descended from him, but it is very likely he would have had siblings, especially since he lived in a castle, implying he was nobility in some capacity, and Patch would be descended from one of said siblings. This familial connection could tie in with the great destiny theory as well.

This series is in the same universe as the previous cartoon
My Little Pony Tales is showing us what their world was like before monsters and witches took over their planet. Their world was once a peaceful utopia until villains came out of nowhere and start wreaking havoc. My Little Pony n' Friends takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where most of the ponies are dead. My Little Pony Tales takes place in the past.

The show is in the same universe as the previous G1 cartoons, but trapped in a pocket dimension by a villain
Exactly What It Says on the Tin. This may be why there are only earth ponies in the series, and the 'magic' ponies from "Up, Up, and Away" can be trying to save them from the dimension.
