WMG / Mao Mao: Heroes of Pure Heart

Go To

King Snugglemange is a Hidden Villain
In "Perfect Adventure," Adorabat lies to Mao Mao about there being a government conspiracy afoot in order to get them going on an adventure. This will later turn out to be a case of Accidental Truth. Snugglemange is probably not associated with Orangusnake or his crew, but he does have his own intentions for the Ruby Pure Heart. He's only keeping Mao Mao around because he doesn't want anyone else getting their hands on it until his plans are complete.
  • relatedly:
King Snugglemange is a Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass
For a fop he's quite large, muscular and in charge. At some point in the story he'll be forced to help in some way that will show him as an Agent Peacock to everyone's surprise.
Orangusnake and Mao Mao will reveal to have similar backstories
Their goals already are the same, perhaps their motives are also. Perhaps he was looked down on in his life and wants to prove them wrong. Everytime Mao Mao's family gets in Mao Mao's mind, Orangusnake can tell. He may say it was just a lucky guess but maybe it's because he understands Mao Mao's pain.
Adorabat is the "true" main character.
Adorabat has so far been shown as the character with the most development and character arc potential. She was initially alone until becoming Mao Mao's new recruit and is now on the path of becoming a hero of her own. She will grow and develop by observing Mao Mao and the events around her, having a coming of age story; this is her story of becoming a new person and legend. The theme song of the show even seems to be sung from her perspective.
Badgerclops will make a Face-Heel Turn
Badgerclops so far has been shown to be extremely passive, laid back, and even unenthusiastic and uncaring about what's happening. He also at times comes off as borderline passive aggressive more so than jokingly snarky towards his allies when reacting to what they do. Unlike with Mao Mao and Adorabat, we so far have no idea what his motives are, his backstory, or why he's here. His design helps add to this shadiness: a cybernetic arm which is unknown to how he got that (which he seems to be more set on using for his own luxury like eating and playing games rather than fighting villains), an eyepatch which also has unknown origin, along with his other eye always being shut gives the allure of hiding something. All what can be guessed of his appearance is that he did a lot of fighting of some sort in the past. He seems to prefer chilling out on the sidelines despite the fact that he could easily be the most powerful hero with his size and cybernetic multi-function arm. He also has been the butt monkey of the group, but doesn't seem to at all care about that either, perhaps inside he really is spiteful towards all of this but is hiding it, reaching a boiling point? Or is this theory crazy and he simply just is an extremely laid back person?
  • Semi-confirmed, Badgerclops did briefly become antagonistic in a The Dog Bites Back moment in "Ultraclops" after growing gigantic, but he made up with Mao Mao and Adorabat by the end of the episode.
  • "Breakup" gives some backstory on Badgerclops. He used to be a member of the Thicket Thieves (albeit a reluctant one) until they tried to attack Mao Mao, who bested them in battle. He was saved by Mao Mao after getting his foot stuck in a landslide and has been his loyal companion since.
  • "Captured Clops" did have Badgerclops defect (briefly) to the Sky Pirates, but that was just so he could get out of having to do chores.
Orangusnake hybrid case...:
. Out of survival. Snake and orangutan work together to survive. Snake's the brains and orangutan's the body.. Out of love like Garnet from Steven Universe.. To help each other reach the same goals or different ones.
  • The last one of these is confirmed. Coby the snake and Tanner the orangutan were a pair of bandits who banded together to become better thieves.
Who Mao Mao's sisters will be.
We know that Mao Mao has sisters that his father loves more them him.
Mao Mao's family isn't actually that legendary/heroic.
  • In reality its another instance of him exaggerating. His family might actually be only moderately legendary or somewhat heroic. Though they still are adventurers in their own right, just not nearly as accomplished as Mao Mao makes them sound. However, Mao Mao's emotional desire to prove himself to them is perfectly accurate, as is his father's tendency to ignore him.
Shin Mao is an even bigger egotist than Mao Mao
The reason Shin Mao was so focused on training his daughters was so he can receive admiration for training legendary hero’s.
  • Semi-confirmed. Jury's out on whether or not he's a bigger egotist in general than Mao Mao, but at the very least he has a bigger Inferiority Superiority Complex than Mao Mao, but both said complex and his Parental Favoritism are for a very different reason than merely wanting admiration for training legendary heroes. It's because he's really a small cat in Powered Armor and as such he's developed an obsession with size, causing him to neglect Mao Mao.
Mao Mao's dad is actually a villain
Mao Mao's sisters treat him better than Shin Mao does
In contrast to Shin Mao's attitude towards him, Mao Mao's sister's actually love and respect him, and regret never standing up to their father on his behalf.
one of Mao Mao's sisters will be revealed to be "evil" only for her to turn out to be the only good one
she will be demonized by her siblings and father for turning traitor, but when she actually shows up it will turn out she and mao mao are the only one who actually act heroic while the others are glory hounds and ignore people in need if its not big profile, and that, along with there treatment of mao mao is why she turned on them
Shin Mao had a reason to treat Mao Mao the way he did when he was a kid.
It may relate to Shin Mao's own path to heroism. Maybe Shin Mao was a self-taught warrior, who learned all he knows about being a hero through experience and self-discipline. He figured is it worked for him, maybe it will work for Mao Mao too.
A Knight of Cerebus will appear, thus changing the show's entire dynamic, similar to Steven Universe
King Snugglemange will die at the hands of one of the main three heroes
Badgerclops shows in "Fright Wig" that he has contingency plans to escape in case he or Mao Mao kill one of the more annoying Sweetie-pies. Adorabat has shown little reticence to physically harm her fellow Pure Heart Valley residents when they annoy her.
Mao Mao's mom and sisters have the same kind of relationship Mao Mao had with his dad before Small.
In all the flasbacks Mao Mao had with his family, his mom never shows, meaning she treated Mao Mao better than the rest of the family. I'm guessing that she never paid attention to the sisters in an attempt to humble them.
The reason behind Shin Mao's neglect of Mao Mao and obsession with big things.
Throughout Shin Mao's life, people made fun of him and mocked his dream of being a legendary hero because he was a very small cat. This got to him, and made him start to train hard and collect pieces of armor that would increase his size to prove to them they were wrong.

Sadly, his insecurities then effected his relationship with his kids. He ignored Mao Mao because he was the smallest of his kids, while training his bigger sisters into being legendary heroes. He was afraid that if all his old bullies found out about Mao Mao's size, they would start making fun of him again.

One of the Sky Pirates will get a temporary Heel–Face Turn episode.
At the end of a battle between Mao Mao and the Sky Pirates, one of the latter group will be left behind. At that point, Adorabat may get it into her head to get said Sky Pirate to change their ways and become one of the good guys instead. In the end, said former pirate will ultimately rejoin Orangusnake's gang, and Adorabat may feel dejected about it. However, the episode will end with a scene showing that she, Mao Mao, and Badgerclops did have a positive impact on the sky pirate.
Minori will be the sister with the golden hat.

Her name means Beautiful Harbor and Abundance. The Abundance part is a big giveaway.

It will be revealed that Mao Mao isn't the only sibling in his litter who has a strained relationship with Shin Mao
One of his sisters will turn out to be a Foil of Mao Mao in the sense that while he vies for the approval of his family and wants to be a legendary hero like them, that sister will resent Shin Mao for always pressuring her to uphold the family's code of honor through heroism instead of letting her pursue her own dreams.
A member of the Sky Pirates from the first episode will make a return.
At some point, the Sky Pirates will find one of their old numbers whom Mao Mao and Badgerclops knocked off their ship in the pilot episode. Most likely Steel Wing, since he's the most well-known of them.

He will prove to be a formidable opponent, even giving Mao Mao & Co. a hard time. Of course, at the end of the episode, he will likely be gone again, and it'll just be the main Sky Pirate group again.

Shin Mao is actually overprotective of Mao Mao

Since we learned that in “Small” Mao Mao actually got his height from his father and the flashback shows Mao Mao’s birth, Shin Mao treats Mao Mao like if he’s disable. He Beileve that Mao Mao can’t do hero stuff due to his height and doesn’t want him to get hurt or killed.

Badgerclops's lost his eye and had it replaced with a robotic eye some time after meeting Mao Mao

In Breakup we see that, in the past, Badgerclops had blue eyes. Initially many viewers likely assumed that this was probably just made-up in his head to make him look more handsome. However, in Tanya Keys, we see an old poster of him and it too has blue eyes for Badgerclops. From this it seems likely his eye color change actually happened. More importantly, in Head Chef, we see that he is able to see data and information through his eye. It's very likely that the reason for both these things is a robotic eye. Something else of note is that, in the flashback in Breakup, Badgerclops keeps his eye open, but in the present, his eyes are usually closed.

  • Badge-A-Fire Explosion further confirms that his working eye used to be a normal looking blue eye instead of all yellow.

Mao Mao is set in the distant future.

Mao Mao’s world is set in a medieval-esque town, but has flying motorcycles, flying pirate ships, massive invisibility cloaks, a strange, geometric writing system, and modern toys, like groan tubes, moon shoes, and plastic cooking sets. The show is also full of anthropomorphic animals, with not one human in sight. The show could be set in an era after Humanity's Wake, where anthropomorphic animals have built a new society, rediscovered man’s playthings, forests are basically everywhere, and the citizens often have to face giant beasts, which could be the aftermath of a nuclear war. (Even though they could always be the result of natural evolution too, but a nuclear war would also explain man’s disappearance as well.)

Mao Mao and Klonoa take place in the same universe

After all, BOTH franchises have "Sky Pirates". And as an added bonus, Popka might have been a former sweetiepie!

The Ruby Pure Heart is the ultimate villain of the story.

As soon as the heart was cracked in the first episode, terrible things began to happen to the valley. Vicious monsters were drawn to the area on an almost daily basis, strange and dangerous beings like the Mime Slime began to appear out of nowhere. And wishes of wicked intent started being granted, like Orangusnake wishing for power, and Adorabat wishing to have the ability to pyschologically hurt others. It's likely that the Ruby Pure Heart is not simply a magical wish-granting artifact, but a prison for something ancient, powerful, and evil. It could even be possible that the Sweetie-pies are descendants of those who were tasked with making sure that the ancient evil was never set loose on the world again. Too bad they grew indolent and sheltered through the generations.

  • Don't you mean an ancient pure evil?

Geraldine's TRUE power

Mao Mao's signature weapon is far more than a glowstick. After all, if all she could do is generate light, then how do moves like "Fiery Cross Slash" or "Ice Slash" work? Or using a shockwave to carve up the underground pests in "The Perfect Adventure"? Simple. Geraldine's true power isn't the ability to create light, but to manipulate energy. The light is simply the energy manifesting.

The reason Scoops is barley seen without her hat.

It's because it belonged to her deceased father. Yeah, I'm edgy.

Badgerclops has an eating disorder.

He's a Big Eater, he's always eating or thinking about food, will eat unattended food on a whim and he gets royally upset if any of it is wasted or denied to him.

Badgerclops' mother was abusive.

In Popularity Conquest, he casually implies that his mother says very hurtful things about him. Considering that he has an older stepbrother, his parents may have divorced and remarried separately because of this.

  • Confirmed. Both of his parents stifled his creativity to the point where he can only express it when hyperfixating.
Mao Mao is a Lighter and Softer version of The Metabarons.

All three main characters, like the Metabarons of the Castaka Family, are aspiring legendary heroes with at least one body part removed and/or replaced with a mechanical substitute. Of course, this could just be a load of bio-crap.

Ol Blue is a Time Lord
His car is his TARDIS. Sorry, I just had to.

There are others in Mao Mao's family who do not like the pressures of being a Hero.
Mao Mao isn't comfortable with living by the Hero's code entirely, since it has unfair and arbitrary rules like "Don't eat cobbler". At the same time, he feels very guilty about eating it as seen in "Sugar Berry Fever". Isn't there some possibility that his other family members aren't okay with dumb rules like those as well? What, you can't be a Hero if you like to give first aid? Sure, those spirits were all in Mao Mao's head, but can his entire family really be mad at him for breaking one rule in the code when he was a child and when he clearly loved cobbler?
  • Perhaps his mother and/or others didn't want him to be severely, or even at all, but they were overruled. But since Mao Mao was a child he would not have been included in their discussion and assumes they all agreed to punish him.
  • One of the spirits Mao Mao sees is a sumo wrestler with four nipples. But cats have six nipples. Foreshadowing that not all of Mao Mao's family lives up to their standards of a great hero?

Mouse Ka-Boom was Muffins' husband
And THAT'S why her child in "Bobo-Chan" has no father! But then again, her husband could have been eaten by a monster......

The Ruby Pure Heart is a prison for something powerful and evil.
In "Orangusnake Begins" the ruby glows ominously and powers up the Sky Pirates, creating their humongous mecha. Then later on in "Zing Your Heart Out" The crack on the ruby glows ominously again, and empowers Adorabat, but also possesses her, turning her evil. And maybe it was my imagination, but durring one of the times we see her strung up like a puppet inside her own mind, I swear the strings briefly made a face. I think Mao Mao's accident gave some horrible creature trapped inside the ruby a way to get out, and eventually it will get free and become the new antagonist of the show, accompanied by a tone shift away from the episodic comedy, and more towards an action epic (which happens to still have lots of comedy.)

Or alternatively, the Ruby Pure Heart is actually "good".
One of its 'powers' seems to be to grant people wishes. This is because it wants them to be happy. However, because it's so pure(read young and naive if you want), it has no experience with the negative emotions that caused people to wish for such things. Which causes very bad things to happen...
  • Orangusnake was desperate to prove he could be good at what he does(being a villain), so the Ruby Pure Heart gave him the power to do be a very good villain by turning his ship into a Humongous Mecha.
  • Adorabat wanted Chester to stop hurting her, and likely to know what she felt like while he was hurting her, so the Ruby gave her the power to defend herself from his attacks. It then tried to tell her that now with this power, she could make everyone stop hurting her. Unfortunately, the power it gave her was to hurt everyone else back.
  • I also wanted to point out that while many people have darker urges, like wanting to hurt others so that they can't hurt you, people fight those urges because(moral code aside) it takes the same amount of effort(or more) to do so. However, the Ruby Pure Heart, via wish-granting, unintentionally empowers these darker tendencies. The web Adorabat got trapped in might not be the Ruby's, but her own (admittedly) very dark desires. It was supposed to be symbolic of her being trapped in her own mind.
  • In relation to the theory below, in that instance the Ruby is granting someone's wish to get over their fear/insecurities. While it cannot remove them, it can show them [[Dream Land via a dreamscape]] that they face those fears everyday, so there should be no reason to have to wish for them to be gone. They have the strength to face them and keep going.

The "Breakup" from the titular episode was caused by the Ruby Pure Heart.
Going on the above theory, Adorabat wished "with all [her] little HEART!!!" that she could spend time/be friends with Mao Mao and Badgerclops separately so she could do 'cool stuff' and have combo moves like them. The Ruby made that happen, but didn't know how clingy they would get with Adorabat.
  • Also, the Ruby wasn't glowing because that is only when it grants wishes/gives you powers directly.

Following above, the Ruby Pure Heart has been granting everyone's wishes.
Mao Mao wants be a legendary hero. He ends up protector of a Legendary town. Adorabat wishes to fight monsters and be a hero. She ends up squishing! the monster that got her mother killed and (probably) became a hero in the eyes of her dad. Bao Bao wanted Mao Mao to forgive him and be friends again, and in the end he accepts that Bao Bao is his friend and lets him go. Tanya Keys wanted Mao Mao to not care so much about laws if it meant helping his friend. Badgerclops wanted people to accept his insane creative ideas, and now he has a photo to prove it. It cannot be a coincidence that all of these things happened, and in just the first season, can it?

One of the episodes will involve the Ruby Pure Heart trapping our Heroes in a Nightmare in their dreams where they will have to fight their worst fears head on and win to wake up alive.
We saw what the Ruby Pure Heart could do in "Orangusnake Begins" and "Zing your Heart Out" if the Ruby Pure Heart can do all of that, who is to say that it cannot also trap Mao Mao and his friends in a nightmare where they have to fight all of their worst fears in their dreams and defeat them to wake up alive back in the real world. Mao Mao might have to fight his sisters and it would not be easy for him since they would be a lot stronger, tougher and more powerful than him and they might all attack him at once, Badgerclops would probably be against the Thicket Theives Gang who wants to take him back and Adorabat's might be the Cave Dragon but she does not have Sonara or Mao Mao and Badgerclops to help her and she is not as strong as she is in the real world in the present.

A future episode, maybe a season finale but NOT THE SERIES FINALE, will have Mao Mao have an opportunity to become the greatest legendary hero ever but he will throw it away to save his friends
Mao Mao will have a time in his life and show where he is so close to achieving his dream of being the greatest legendary hero who has ever lived, but something will obstruct him from achieving it and he will have to make a decision. The Sky Pirates, A Monster or other Villain will put Badgerclops and Adorabat in danger. After contemplating what to do, Mao Mao will realize what is really important and he will throw away his chance at his goal of becoming the greatest Legendary Hero Who Ever Lived at that point if it means he will lose Badgerclops and Adorabat's lives forever. He may lose that chance in that episode, but as it won't be the series finale, he might have another shot at becoming the Greatest Legendary Hero Who Ever Lived he always wanted to be in a future episode.

Mao Mao’s Sisters will come to town and Mao Mao will feel jealous of them even more.
Mao Mao’s Sisters will come to Ruby Pure Heart Valley and the Sweetypies and maybe even Badgerclops and Adorabat might be in awe and adore them and Mao Mao might be not only jealous but afraid of losing even Badgerclops and Adrabat to them, although it is likely that even though they might have a tempting offer to Badgerclops and Adorabat to join them on their adventures and be on the fast track to being Legendary Heroes, Badgerclops and Adordabat will decline and decide to stay with Mao Mao in Pure Heart Valley.

Ramaraffe is Savathun in disguise.
They share the same voice actress: Debra Wilson. And what better place to hide than in a totally different franchise?
