Beware of unmarked spoilers!
BUT in an What If comic◊ Jane herself found Mjolnir, raised it and fought as goddess of thunder. She didn't call herself "Thor", but chose the moniker THORDIS. A female form of the name. So, in this new story, she will use that moniker, instead of stealing Thor's identity!
- Alternately, she will take the name Thunderstrike, becoming a Composite Character with Eric Masterson.
- Jossed. Jane is Thor. She does go by "The Mighty Thor", when Thor Odinson is around, to distinguish them. Though if you cannot say "The Mighty Thor", she will also accept "Doctor Jane Foster", in full, as an alternative.
- Probably not Downey, as he's been confirmed for Avengers 3.
- Probably not Drax, either, as Ultron will be the villain of Avengers 2 and the Guardians of the Galaxy aren't set to be appearing.
- All Jossed. In fact, the only death was Quicksilver, who was introduced for that film as a villain, joins the Avengers, and dies, in fairly rapid succession.
- Unlikely, both based on rumors, and on the simple fact that Loki is the villain who now knows where the Cosmic Cube/Tesseract is. It would be quite a bizarre turn of events for Loki to discover a powerful MacGuffin, and then have it get grabbed by another, completely unrelated villain.
- While it's a stretch, there very well could be a point at which we're introduced to Thanos, after the team has dealt with Loki. It could easily lead to either a Giant Space Flea from Nowhere or a Man Behind the Man situation if it goes that route, though. Hopefully the writers (and Joss Whedon!) will make it good.
- There are rumors surfacing which say that instead of the Skrulls, Thanos will be the second villain in the Avengers movie, alongside Loki.
- Confirmed. Though a brainwashed Loki is the main villain of Avengers 1 and Ultron is the main villain of the sequel, Thanos works in the background as a Greater-Scope Villain, but does not encounter the Avengers until Avengers: Infinity War.
- And it will consist of Baron Helmut Zemo (from Captain America 2), Enchantress and Executioner (from Thor 2), Klaw (from Ant-Man), and Abomination (who they break out). There might be a few other supervillains like Whirlwind or Grey Gargoyle, depending on how they can transcript them into a movie.
- Probably not, since Thanos is set up to be the villain for Avengers 2.
- Not for Avengers 2, though so is Thanos.
- Executioner and Klaw both got offed in Thor Ragnarok and Black Panther, but still a possibility...
- It doesn't look like we'll get a Hulk sequel. So might as well use Sterns for an Avengers movie. He can be creating an army of Gamma Mutates, requiring the Avengers to stop him.
- It doesn't look like we'll get a Hulk sequel until after Avengers 2. Though this still holds some weight; they're looking at Planet Hulk as a possible plotline for it, which would be awesome. If they don't go with Planet Hulk, I'd expect them to go with Future Imperfect, as it's one of the better known and well liked Hulk storylines.
- Seems possible, considering that as of "Nick Fury's Big Week", he's stuck in SHIELD custody as "Project Mr. Blue".
- It will consist of a cyborg-ized Zola, Abomination, Crimson Dynamo(May or may not be Vanko), a new Whiplash, A new villain from a movie released between the two, and lead by Red Skull. The Avengers will drop Widow and Fury, adding on a hero who got his movie in the interim and War Machine.
- Or the Masters of Evil could be organized by the Leader (since there most likely won't be an Incredible Hulk sequel for him to be the Big Bad of), and it could include Abomination (who they free), Justin Hammer who funds the creation of the Crimson Dynamo, some surviving villains from sequels of the individual heroes' movies, and maybe some more new faces. Then, they find the Red Skull, who takes over their group and makes them a bigger threat due to his experiences after what the Tesseract did to him after Captain America: The First Avenger..
- Because being the Avengers Arch-Enemy in the comics, he has to show up sometime. He will first appear in the Ant-Man movie as a pet project of Ant-Man, and later SHIELD will approach Ant-Man with orders from the the Council to create an army of robots under the government's control as a fail-safe in case the Avengers turn against them or break apart from them. Of course, Ultron will be outfitted with tech and weapons probably taken from Stark and maybe the Destroyer armor and used by the government to control the superheroes. Being Ultron, we know what will happen next...
- Confirmed!
- Thanos wasn't directly the villain of GOTG, but he was the behind the scenes instigator. His actual role was basically a cameo, whilst Ronan the Accuser acted as the primary Big Bad. Thanos, providing the mind gem that, in the MCU, created Ultron, is also the Big Bad of Avengers 2, albeit, again, behind the scenes.
At the same time, Thanos and/or his agents will secretly form the Masters of Evil, a group of supervillains deliberately designed to mimic the Avengers and attack its members where it would hurt most, making it easier to manipulate them into doing something stupid. While the Masters believe that they've been hired to take care of some political rivals, their true purpose is commit dangerous criminal acts that will turn public opinion further against superhumans. (The justification for the similarities is that if a bunch of people like the Avengers are seen committing heinous acts, people will more easily accept that the Avengers could do the same.
In the end, the Avengers manage to beat the Masters of Evil and learn of Thanos' planned attack. With some help from the Guardians of the Galaxy, they go into space and directly attack Thanos' forces on their own turf. While they're successful, Thanos cuts off their means of escape and they become stranded in space. The film ends on a bittersweet note as Thanos plots anew and the Avengers are cut off from their loved ones.
Phase Three will focus on Earth as it reacts to the Avengers absence. Wanting to learn what happened to them and suspecting (rightly) that Thanos isn't done, Nick Fury begins assembling a new team of Avengers to go into space, learn what happened to the original Avengers, and make sure that Thanos is stopped once and for all.
- It could be a perfect set up for a Planet Hulk inspired storyline, (likely in the form of a tie-in graphic novel due to there being no plans for one), although you'd think a Kree vs Skrull storyline would fit more in the Fantastic Four reboot.
- That ended up being the plot of the Captain Marvel film, instead.
- Black Panther did appear in Captain America: Civil War before getting his own movie, Doctor Strange got his own movie in 2016 and later a cameo in Thor: Ragnorok. Both of the characters then appeared in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.
- There will be a Disney+ series. Whether the quote will be used in any Hawkeye movie is yet to be seen.
- The story will be based on the first Avengers King-Sized Special. It will feature the Mandarin assembling the surviving villains from the characters' individual movies, and possibly some new ones, and all surviving Avengers teaming up against them.
- Seems he's being used for Shang-Chi's solo movie, although that alone doesn't joss this WMG; it could be that he returns after dying in the movie, coming back with some other form of power that requires Shang-Chi to get the Avengers back together.
- Or, maybe we will finally see some comic book accurate version arise, with ten comic accurate rings (on his fingers, with varying different powers instead of arm rings with a shared powerset) and complain that he's had to deal with a millenia old "young upstart" copycat for his many millenia of villainry, only to be informed of the even more recent copycat attempt by Aldrich Killian.
- Villains that were kept in SHIELD custody (including Abomination, Leader, Graviton and Blizzard) will escape and form the Masters of Evil.
- Many escaped and some joined HYDRA, but no Masters of Evil so far.
- Potential plotlines/stories/characters:
- More Peggy Carter. Possibly showing how she met her husband?
- Agent Carter one-shot seemed a bit like a Poorly Disguised Pilot anyway.
- Howard and Maria Stark getting together, and Howard with little!Tony.
- How/when Fury got involved.
- Part of Fury's origin is later shown in Captain Marvel
- How Coulson/Maria Hill/Sharon Carter got hired.
- Hawkeye and Black Widow's backstories and meeting, although they might want to save that for it's own movie.
- The Budapest Mission was later revealed in Black Widow.
- Zola and Hydra
- The Howling Commandos' post-war life (not a big jump to think some of them might have been recruited into S.H.I.E.L.D.).
- Close. TV Show.
- More Peggy Carter. Possibly showing how she met her husband?
- It'd be funny.
- Clint would have a bigger part and more character development.
- We would still have a female superhero headlining her own movie.
- We would have a female superhero with a male sidekick.
- (Crack reason) They could possibly slip in a Hawkeye Inititiative reference. Maybe Clint would have to disguise himself as a girl and complain about looking ridiculous?
- Budapest.
- Mostly jossed. Jeremy Renner did appear in an uncredited voice-over and on-screen photo. Romanoff's and Barton's time in Budapest was explored, and his recruitment of her was discussed in detail with Black Widow's sister, Yelena Belova (who is a Black Widow wearing a white version of the Black Widow uniform, and is based on a comic character called the White Widow, but still goes by Black Widow in the MCU) who then confirms this WMG in reverse, as the new Black Widow (Yelena Belova) is this for the new Hawkeye (Kate Bishop).
- Jossed. No-one is shown doing that.
- Many of the main Avengers' actors' contracts run out after this movie (notably Downey, Evans, possibly Jackson, and probably a few more). Plus, Avengers 3 seems to be shaping up to be the Infinity Gauntlet story, featuring Thanos, Hero Killer extraordinaire. I foresee some serious Heroic Sacrifices upcoming.
- Jossed, it ends with half of the universe wiped out, including just half of the Avengers, at most. However, most of the people left alive are actually those with contracts set to expire, and there is Avengers 4 to come, so who knows what the final end will be.
- Jossed.
- Jossed.
- Nope...another cameo in Guardians 2, that's it, as of yet. * Well he WAS in the final battle of Endgame so...
- An Alternate Universe Howard had small role in the MCU show What if...?, where he winds up marrying Darcy Lewis!
- The Mind Stone is under the control of Dormammu and Doctor Strange will take it from him to defeat him once his movie comes 'round. (though there seems to be a theory going around that Loki's scepter has the Mind Stone embedded in the head).
- Jossed. Loki's Scepter it is.
- Although it's the TIME Stone that features in Doctor Strange's movie and is instrumental in Dormammu's defeat. Though Dormammu didn't have it.
- Not sure where the Soul or Time Stones are, but we will first find them in the possession of Adam Warlock's future self, the Magus, in Guardians of the Galaxy 2. Someone will use the Time Gem to try and Set Right What Once Went Wrong and kill Adam Warlock.
- The Time Stone is placed at the center of Captain America's shield by Major Victory.
- Jossed. The Time Stone is with Doctor Strange.
- The Time Stone is placed at the center of Captain America's shield by Major Victory.
- On that note...
- Jossed.
- Jossed.
- Confirmed, in that she does has a big role. She doesn't show up on Earth at all, but she interacts with Thanos more than any of the other character.
- Marvel might not be sticking with "Phases" from this point forward, but either way, the first Post-Phase 3 film is set to be a sequel to Spiderman: Homecoming.
- This line of reasoning is jossed; Marvel will be continuing the "Phase" idea, and Spider-Man: Far From Home was actually the last Phase 3 movie, acting as an epilogue to the overall Infinity Saga.
- At the very least, if it does have a Captain America film, it won't be Steve Rodgers as Cap, since Chris Evans has confirmed that Avengers 4 will be the last time he plays the role.
- Jossed, unless Sam takes up the mantle in a future film, it looks like we won't be getting another Cap film anytime soon. Plus as pointed out with the corrections, a Cap film already started Phase 3, and Spider-Man: Far From Home ended Phase 3.
- Phase 4 was supposed to start with Black Widow (2021),
- Jossed, they don't meet. The heroic female characters who do all meet in the film - Black Widow along with Okoye and Scarlet Witch - are unambiguously allies here. There is a Guardians vs Avengers fight, but it's Star-Lord, Drax, and Mantis against Iron Man, Spider-Man, and Doctor Strange.
- RDJ's Tony Stark will be in GOTG 3.
- Possibly because he was stuck in far space after the Infinity War films.
- Stark has been on the team in the past.
- Confirmed. Tony Stark is dead as of Avengers: Endgame.
- Carol Danvers / Captain Marvel
- T'Challa / Black Panther
- Stephen Strange / Doctor Strange
- Drax The Destroyer
- Doreen Green / Squirrel Girl
- Peter Parker / Spider-Man
- Save Squirrel Girl, all these characters could form an Avengers line-up in the MCU - but it definitely doesn't happen in Infinity War.
- It will likely be Doctor Strange, since he's the only one who deals with things like this.
- Jossed. Time is an important theme in Doctor Strange, but no actual time travel happens, only time loops.
- time travel does happen in Avengers: Endgame, though.
- Jossed. Time is an important theme in Doctor Strange, but no actual time travel happens, only time loops.
- What better way to signify the end of the X-Men embargo than the already-made basis for the crossover?
- And maybe, as a real Grand Finale and an Earn Your Happy Ending story for the MCU's Avengers, there will be a massive Dance Party Ending where a lot of Marvel Comics fans of all ages became Promoted Fan(s) with all of the Heroes do a cover of Heal the World from the late Michael Jackson altogether too as well? It would end up being one of the happiest, yet the greatest endings in cinemaric history.
- Jossed.
- Confirmed for Iron Man, but jossed for Cap - Iron Man is on Titan with Nebula (and possibly someone else, assuming Strange cast a spell to make it seem like Stark and Nebula were the only survivors of Thanos's snap, while Cap is on Earth).
- Confirmed! ...Well, Thanos gets killed by the Avengers in the opening minutes of Endgame, actually. But he does get replaced (rather than usurped) himself from 2014.
- The theory is shaping up. Cassie will adopt her Stature persona in Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania. Kate Bishop appeared in is briefly seen in 'The Falcon and the Winter Soldier''.
- In addition, Billy and Tommy Maximoff (Wiccan and Speed) are introduced in ''WandaVision
- Incursions start happening on such a large scale that the entire Multiverse is in peril. The heroes of the MCU (especially the upcoming Fantastic Four), the heroes of Earth-838, the Guardians of the Multiverse, X-Men, Peter 2, Peter 3, the heroes of Sony's Spider-Man Universe, the Spider-Gang, Ghost Rider, Blade, etc. must all work together to stop this threat, with Kang and the TVA acting as the masterminds behind the crisis. Doctor Doom gets involved as well. However, the heroes fail, and we get another Downer Ending cliffhanger ala Infinity War, only this time, everyone in every universe dies. However, Doctor Doom kills Kang and is given free reign to create his own reality, much like how He Who Remains created the Sacred Timeline. From the salvaged remains of the dead universes, Battleworld is born.
- All who died in the Incursions are resurrected on Battleworld with their memories locked away (to prevent existentialist Ship of Theseus debates), where they go out on adventures in colorful costumes much like previously, but now revere Doctor Doom as their God-Emperor. Among the Domains:
- Doomstadt: The capital of Battleworld and from where God-Emperor Doom rules.
- Kingdom of New York: Made from 616's signature New York City, but turned into a whole global superpower.
- Mutopia: The remains of the X-Men's universe, where Professor X's dream of human-mutant coexistence is realized.
- Arachnia: A combination of the New Yorks of the various Spider-people across the multiverse.
- Wakanda: Now loyal to Doom, but otherwise the same as how it was on Earth-616.
- Doomgard: Asgard restored, but now watches over Battleworld and is the headquarters of the Thor Corps.
- Sentinel Territories: Made from the remains of the X-Men's Bad Future seen in X-Men: Days of Future Past.
- Wastelands: Made from the remains of the other X-Men Bad Future seen in Logan.
- Deadlands: Made from the remains of Earth-89521.
- Alternate mystical dimensions such as Ta-Lo, the Noor Dimension, and the Dark Dimension now physically coexist with what used to be parts of Earth.
- The heroes will actually win against the main Kang causing trouble but will be blindsided by a more powerful and more dangerous Kang who goes on to create Battleword.
- Spider-Man will be a Spanner in the Works for Kang's plans because of the Cosmic Retcon at the end of No Way Home, which will leave Kang dealing with someone who functionally doesn't exist in the timestream.
- Sersi will take Molecule Man's place as the source behind Battleworld and numerous other Eternals will be captured to power her up to the point she can do so.
- The Beyonder will be a variant of Kang who's more interested in what he deems interesting experiments, hence a Battleworld as a result. He'll comment how he's "beyond" the normal drive of conquest that most Kangs have.
- The Ten Rings and Kamala's bangle will turn out to be artifacts left behind from the first Multiversal war and those along with others yet to be revealed will be of interest to Kang.
- Kang will be after Man-Thing for his unique connection to the Nexus of All Realities. Jack and Elsa will appear to help him with Kang.
- Loki will try to assemble the Avengers of the Sacred Timeline to fight against Kang but will be caught off guard because the Avengers he's familiar with aren't really a thing anymore.
- Kang seeks to abduct the Avengers who were present at the Battle for Earth against Thanos, deeming them worthy of his Battleworld. These abductions will prompt their allies into action against Kang and ultimately lead into Secret Wars.
