WMG for Galavant

The Ending of Season 1 really isn't that bleak
Sure, Galavant's on the run with King Richard, but they're going to his Kingdom. A place that has the resources to capture and devastate a country as large as Valencia with relative ease. Madalena's taken control of Valencia and its surviving population, whose only military would appear to be Gareth and his Guardsmen. It should be trivial for Galavant to rescue everybody with Richard backing him up. Though if there is a second season (which will probably spend half the time covering Richards and Galavant's trek/inevitable bro-fest back to wherever they're from) I'm sure they'll make it a far more riveting adventure.
  • And plus Gareth is the new king and he seems to be a good man at heart
  • Jossed hilariously, when we see that the people of Richard's land have become a democracy and have no desire to help Galavant out. In addition, it's implied that most of the army is in Valencia.

Madalena is the Big Bad for both Galavant and Richard

King Richard is bad, but what's shown us suggests he's just being raised believing he is perfectly good and legitimate in his attitude, and she chose the marriage over love to become the most powerful woman in the land, so once she finds out about Richard's plan she'll try to take advantage of it by having Galavant and Richard kill each other, leaving her as the sole ruler of the kingdom and with no pretender.

  • Madalena being the Big Bad to them both? Confirmed. But planning to have them both kill each other? Jossed.

Galavant is an offshoot of the OnceUponATime Universe..

Most Disney films back in the day had everybody breaking out into song. Finally fed up with it, the land's most powerful magic users altered reality, shifting that particular habit onto an alternate reality, one where it's considered a facet of life. Also one where it's a strange mix of modern slang, sensibilities and fantasy clichés.

  • Plus there is that lovely shoutout at the very beginning of season 2 about accidentally ending up in "The Enchanted Forest" ruled by an "Evil Queen" It could be that the world of Galavant is just on another continent or something on the same planet as OUAT. Like close enough that Richard's dad would have heard legends but not close enough that the curse or plot of OUAT impacts them.

The writers are Tropers..

The series seems like it's written by a round table of tropers.

Richard is the king meant to unite the 7 kingdoms
Not only did he draw a sword from the stump meant for "The One True King", but after seeing the powers of " Democracy" in action, he'll unite the kingdoms with him as head king, and then have elections so that he'll be able to be considered the best, but also able to step away when the time is done to relax afterwards. After all, he's been growing all through this show, but it would make for a great punchline that he turned out to be the good king meant to stop the Big Bad.

Madelena doesn't really want all the heroes to die.
At the start of season 2, she doesn't seem too upset with Gareth for helping everyone escape at the end of season 1. And she doesn't kill Sid when she finds out he's still around either.

Galavant and Richard are half-brothers.
Galavant's father was a philanderer, Richard's father was gay, and the show seems to be systematically hitting every storytelling cliché in the world.

The bearded dragon will be a real dragon.
Because for no reason other than it will be funny to see Galavant's reaction.
  • We don't get to see Galavant's reaction, but in The Stinger this is confirmed.

True evil in the Galavant-verse requires a secondary specialty.
Wormwood was an Evil Wedding Planner and the Del is an Evil Fashion Consultant; now that she's gone to the D'Dark Side, Madelena needs a villainous subclass too. I'm thinking Evil Interior Decorator— She did have strong feelings about how to furnish that throne room!

If we get a third season, the Head Monk will take over as the new narrator, accompanied by his fellow monks.
In the finale, it wasn't the Jester who sang the last reprise of the theme, but the Monks. True, they were there to perform Galavant and Isabella's wedding ceremony, but they had little reason to stick around after that. Or did they?

Sid is the heir of one of the other kingdoms.
The series loves to parody fantasy clichés, and what better way to do that than using the old "humble squire is the secret heir to the throne" trope? After all, he is adopted.

If there is a third season somehow, Barry will be important.
His actor joked about him having more depth than we see on screen, and he'd be a great way to give the heroes some knowledge about the DEL and Madalena's powers.

The Giants and Dwarves are of equal heights because before the bridge incident they interbred a lot.
Their heights ended up evening out.

This is a prequel to the High School Musical Trilogy.
Galavant is the world in the quasi-"medieval period", and HSM takes place in a vague 20th or 21st century period. The one thing that didn't change is people bursting into song, even if they don't like singing.

At some point in the near future, Marvel will release a "Season 3" in comic book form for this show.
Hey, it worked for Buffy and Angel as well as Firefly, so why not Galavant?

Neo of Sporin has a sister.
Named Polly.

Unlike our world's Medieval Europe, this world's Seven Realms are in the Southern Hemisphere.
Between Seasons 1 and 2, we are informed that "[Winter] came / And then it went", but the final battle in Season 2 is scheduled for January 31. The only way for this to happen would be if winter takes place at a different time in Galavant — indicating a Southern Hemisphere setting! (Or that dates and seasons are different from Earth, but that's no fun.)
