The characters are not toys - they are Nobodies.
Every character in DI came from a world connected to Kingdom Hearts. They often come from different dimensions, which explains why there are multiple versions of some (Mickey and the Sorceror's Apprentice, Anakin and Vader, etc.). Each hero/villain was killed and turned into a heartless. Now, their empty shell-bodies adventure in the "toybox" worlds, still remembering their past lives and emotions, but they are not real. The intro to 1.0 is actually the birth of a new Nobody, being welcomed to the Nobody world as it tries to reconstruct its old body and personality.

Upcoming Disney properties to get playable characters.

Not Yet Confirmed:note

Confirmed:

Two ideas for the "Wreck-It Ralph"/"Sugar Rush" playset.
  • Version #1: This version starts just as Vanellope Von Schweetz cross the final line restoring herself and the game to normal. Like in the movie, Vanellope is reveal to be a princess — but the magic sparkles also takes Candlehead revealing to be her the local bad girl of "Sugar Rush", Count Cocoa Van Candlecake, who locks up all of Sugar Rush's race tracks and sent Cake Monsters everywhere — a few of them even makes them into other games. Ralph, Vanellope, Felix and Sgt. Calhoun on missions dealing with fighting, wrecking, repairing, and racing — ending with the Core Four befriending her — much to her shock — the Sugar Rush racer treat at best like the Niceleanders treated Ralph or at worst, like Vanellope was treated by the Sugar Rush racers when King Candy was in charge. Lucky, the arcade has been closed — "Thanksgiving Weekend" — so the gang didn't need to worry being missing from their game.
  • Version #2: This version starts of after the Felix's 30th anniversary party and Ralph's crashing of it. He befriends a homeless girl named Vanellope Von Schweetz. Vanellope is trying to get Ralph to help find a new home. Ralph does not want to do it — until a P.A. announces that it is Thanksgiving weekend and the arcade will be crossed for four full days - so they join forces — which includes a lot of fictional games. In the end, after a pilot game, they crash land in "Sugar Rush" — where they meet deal with King Candy and the events leading to a similar ending: King Candy is reveal to be Turbo. This time around, Turbo end up crashes into Game Center Station where he is arrested by the Surge Protector. Back in "Sugar Rush", everyone watches as Vanellope crosses the line to reset the game and reveal to the be game's rightful ruler and main character, Princess Vanellope Von Schweetz.

Alternatively, the Sugar Rush playset will be completely meta, taking place inside Disney Infinity while still including settings from the film.
Only previously used characters from the other figurines will appear as crossover characters.

Since game designers don't want glitches in their games....the following are two possible ideas for Miss Schweetz's ability. This doesn't count either kart she used in "Sugar Rush" since they are both rare power discs.
  • Unlikely: Invisibility — Three characters show this — Mike, Violet, and Randall.
  • Likely: A chocolate squirt gun - Gives her something unique while keeping her candy theme rolling.

The Green Human NPC Toy with the Orange Ball in the trailer for the "The Incredibles" playset is....
...A toy version of Bomb Voyage.
  • Jossed: It's Snoring Gloria — a Poison Ivy homage.

Phineas and Ferb is getting a playset
Ferb has been shown very briefly in a gameplay video, but is still nowhere to be seen. It's possible the developers are saving his announcement for a Playset, along with a Dr. Doofenshmirtz figure.

Disney Infinity will get sequels called Marvel Infinity and Star Wars Infinity that are Exactly What It Says on the Tin.
Marvel Infinity could easily have playsets for its main teams (X-Men, Avengers, Fantastic Four) and, to fill them out, things like a Cosmic playset (starring Galactus, Watcher et al). Star Wars Infinity will make increasingly more sense every year with Disney's new annual movies.
  • Or Alternatively, these Spin-Off Games are acknowledged as their own games as if Disney Infinity was a sort of Console.
  • Probably Jossed, as both Marvel and Star Wars figures have been confirmed.
  • Somewhat confirmed. Half of the figures for Disney Infinity 2.0 are going to be Marvel characters and they have their own sub-title, while Star Wars became the main focus of 3.0.

Kingdom Hearts III will not just be on Xbox One and PS4, but it will packed with a Disney Infinity game.
It will tell the second half of the story Setting the Stage for a Continuity Reboot.

Alternatively, Kingdom Hearts III will come with an exclusive Sora figure compatible with a future (3.0 or 4.0) Disney Infinity game. This will be the ONLY legitimate way to get said figure.
Because mwahahaha.
  • Or for an extra "Difficult to get one" value, you can only get this figure provided you got the Limited Collector's Edition release of the game, which the figure will be with.
    • It'll also be Japan-exclusive, but still required to unlock everything in every other version of the game.

Both Kingdom Hearts III and Disney Infinity (PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions) will be cross compatible.
Stuff like Double EXP bonus, Unlockable characters, cross game save bonus unlockables, etc.
  • Would be awesome. Perhaps, Square would also release some of their characters as Disney Infinity Figurines. For example Sora, Kairi, Aqua, Cloud, Setzer, Vivi, Terra Branford, Robo or even Elly and Fei from Xenogears. Complete with new tiles for Disney Infinity. (Flyeable Highwind and Ragnarok, Parts of Eshtar, Midgar etc. as buildings etc. )

Neither the X-Men or the Fantastic Four will appear in Disney Infinity 2.0.
Because they are currently using properties Marvel/Disney currently owns as opposed to ones they don't (i.e. Disney's Ultimate Spider-Man (2012) as opposed to Sony's The Amazing Spider-Man movies), which means that The X-Men and Fantastic Four characters will not appear because they are not owned by Marvel. Which is a real shame.
  • Meaning that as soon as the owner of the movie rights for these two franchises, Fox, loses either, the characters will become IMMEDIATELY available for whatever version that comes after the year Fox loses the license.
    • And if this happens, the End of "How Frozen should have ended" will be playable.LOL
  • Sadly, somewhat confirmed with John V. stating that Marvel properties whose toy and/or video game rights are controlled by other companies are not likely going to be added to the game anytime soon.

Indiana Jones will finally have playable elements in Disney Infinity 3.0.
If the next DI will heavily feature Star Wars characters and such, its only logical to include Indy and the gang. Especially if they make a Han Solo figure, they have to make an Indy one!
  • Alternately, there will be a power disc pack that lets you put Han in Indy's outfit (Changing his blaster to a revolver and altering his lines, naturally), contains a toy disc of Indy's whip, and includes customization discs to build an Indiana Jones-themed world.

If Big Hero 6 is a hit, then there's a high possibility that the rest of the team becomes playable.
How awesome would that be?

Kingdom Hearts characters won't be in, but will have Power Discs.
Specifically, customization discs to make the Terrain look like Destiny Islands and/ or The World That Never Was, Keyblade gliders and maybe a Keyblade unlocked the same way as the Lightsaber.
  • The last point is confirmed, at least.
  • Somewhat confirmed; a King Mickey power disc was given to players at D23 2015... exclusively to convention guests.

There won't be any inclusion of, or reference to, Oz the Great and Powerful or any other Oz films.
Because the original film is already confirmed for LEGO Dimensions.

There will be Disney Infinity x LEGO Dimensions figures
To counter the amiibo x Skylanders figures, LEGO and Disney will produce minifigs of characters that can be used in either game. They could even come packed with both a LEGO build vehicle for use in Dimensions and a Toy disc of the same vehicle for use in Disney Infinity.

Examples include:

  • Jack Sparrow and the Black Pearl
  • Elsa and Marshmallow
  • Spider-Man and the Spider-Mobile
  • Hulk and a Hulk Tank
  • Iron Man and a Stark Jet
  • Captain America and a Cap-Themed Humvee
  • Han Solo and the Millenium Falcon
  • Darth Vader and his Advanced TIE

  • Then, they would also need to have some stuff from Lego Dimensions to be usable in Disney Infinity.
  • Alternatively, Disney Infnity will include cross compatibility with Amiibo. Woody, Elsa etc. usable in Mario Kart and Smash Bros. and Mario, Bowser, Luigi, Shulk etc. usable in Disney Infinity. This would be awesome.

There will be a Star Wars or Disney counterpart to Marvel Battlegrounds
Or perhaps a Toy Box Game that allows use of figures from all three universes.

  • Unfortunately, every theory is jossed (save for a few) due to the game's cancellation. However....one there's one there down below.

If the franchise would return in the Future
Just like with a Warner Bros. Fighting Game franchise that made Midway Games (aka NetherRealm Studios) famous where one title that has "EVERYONE IS HERE!", then a hypothetically revamped and updated Disney Infinity 4.0 might pull a Mortal Kombat Armageddon and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, where Disney with Warner Bros. (who are now the new owners of the other Avalanche) and Square-Enix team-up altogether to make a completely hypothetical Disney Infinity Dream Match Game that would put Fortnite and the aforementioned Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as one the biggest Massive Multiplayer Crossover Video Games to shame, by having literally nearly everyone from Disney's library and as well as by having Everyone in the Disney Infinity games be playable Digitally (although the figures can be re-released as well for all of them) (ranging from Disney Originals (in which it would be now classified and renamed as Disney Legends) aka the properties they've made in Film, TV and Video Games along with Pixar (and even picking some Disney Junior representatives like Captain Jake, of all people to be the Game's equivalent to Kirby) to the Marvel Super Heroes and Super Villains that many people know and love (and while some peeps like Deadpool would have some Bowdlerise stuff, they can still be faithful to their roots) to everyone from Lucasfilm and LucasArts' libraries (and Indy will be here too) to parts of 20th Century Studios' library (and as well as some Unexpected stuff like Big Trouble in Little China for example) as it'll have even more Shocking Moments than before..like having Bill Cipher, of all people to be the Game's Story Mode's Big Bad and Final Boss that would put Galeem to shame). If someone had the Guts to make the biggest Disney Infinity game ever made, then it'll be amazing.

Disney will release an "Ultimate Edition" in the future.
Nothing too complex, just an Updated Re-release that features all the playsets, characters and power discs (all now in-game rather than requiring physical toys to use) from all three versions rolled together into one cohesive package. Bonus points if:
  • The online servers go back up and users can make and upload toyboxes online again.
  • Some of the older 1.0-era features like character-specific challenges, growing/shrinking goo, bikes and Syndrome's energy gauntlet are all brought back and updated to work with the later content.
  • We get some of the cut content fully restored (Moana and Rogue One playsets, playable characters like Ferb, Emperor Zurg, Peter Pan, Goofy, Jafar, Doctor Strange and Spider-Gwen and updated movesets for some of the older characters like Jack, Buzz, Elsa, Hulk, Hulkbuster and Darth Vader etc).
