The island at the end is the island from Lost.
Strange noises from the forest and trees being knocked down in the distance? Seems familiar.

The Isle of Giant Horrors that the three survivors end up on together would be some kind of gargantuan, primeval tide pool, filled with all manner of amphibious horrors.
While the initial implication was that this part of the ocean was home to a creature far, far below the deepest depths ever explored, the presence of the large, volcanic island seems to suggest an entire monster-ecosystem, with any number of other unknown creatures lurking on and around it. Were there a sequel, we would get to see it in detail and get several new monsters, rather than a second Octalus.
