[[WMG: The monsters are all reflections of Courage's fears of his own failures.]]
Hence why the final antagonist is the Perfect Teacher, who constantly insults Courage for his mistakes; he's not a stalwart, fearless hero, but a fearful dog. The Bugle thing and the fish are two of the "monsters," but since Courage is stuck in his perfection obsession they instead advise him on his imperfections.

This could at least explain the wide variety of strange going-ons that take place in nowhere, ranging from aliens to bizarre scientific experiments to the paranormal and so on and so on. The research facility primarily exists to capture, record and study such anomalies and relevant data much like how the Wiki/SCPFoundation works. The home of Eustace and Muriel could either be a house of unsuspecting human and canine guinea pigs or it might be that they just happen to be in the way while all this is going on.

** It's possible that since they live in the VoidBetweenTheWorlds they may not have to pay taxes (how is the tax collector gonna find them?). Which may be the ''real'' reason why they choose the stay there. Alternatively...

* While those who steal from him will "suffer [his] curse", he is suffering a curse of his own: if his tomb is disturbed in any way (like, say, a slab being stolen), he will be forcibly awoken from his slumber and unable to return to the land of the dead until everything is in its proper place. That was why he was so dedicated to getting his slab back: not out of greed or revenge for being robbed, but out of sheer desperation to end his suffering and return to the grave.

* One episode of the old show had Morticia knitting a sweater for a cousin named Eustace who, going by the sweater's proportions, has a long skinny neck. If he is part-Addams, it would go a long way to explain [[WeirdnessMagnet why weird, creepy stuff is always happening to the people around him]] and [[IronButtMonkey how he can keep getting maimed and mutilated repeatedly and live to tell about it]].

** FridgeHorrror sets in when you consider Dr. LeQuack, in his first appearance, may have killed Policeman Frith when he wrecked his cruiser and stole his uniform to make his escape. So there's at least ''one'' less Frith brother/cousin.

The Vet ''was'' trying to create super-dogs after all, and there are many other talking animals, some with supernatural powers. Whose to say this Vet or at least the institute he works for didn't perform similar experiments on other animals, which [[UpliftedAnimal gave them human qualities]] and, in the case of Shirley, Fusilli, and the WereMole, strange abilities. This could also explain how Courage talks and seems to shape-shift at times. In that sense the Vet really is the ultimate villain of the show.

* Confirmed as of ''Film/StraightOuttaNowhereScoobyDooMeetsCourageTheCowardlyDog''. Though the cause of the weirdness is not actually malicious, it is drawing abnormal beings and supernatural entities to it. [[spoiler:It is revealed to be a strange meteor composed of dark matter that landed millions of years ago in Nowhere and wiped out the dinosaurs.]]
