Dottie cares about her family more than baseball, and Kit has been burning with resentment over Dottie overshadowing her for her whole life. Letting Kit score the winning run and then retiring from baseball would let Kit finally have her day in the spotlight for once. And nobody would ever know if the dropped ball was an accident or not.
