Visual Novel / Corpse Party D2: Zero Hope

Go To

Corpse Party D2: Zero Hope is an indirect sequel to the 2013 Corpse Party fangame Corpse Party D2: Depths of Despair, and a direct sequel to Corpse Party Zero, taking place a year after the “Mended Soul” ending of Depths of Despair and seven years after the B-rank ending of Corpse Party Zero. Zero Hope focuses on Kaori Hasegawa and a new group of students trapped in the old schoolhouse of Heavenly Host Senior High.

This Fan Game contains instances of:

  • Abusive Parent: Misaki's mother. She believes that because Misaki is a lesbian, she is diseased and in response took her away from her school, friends and girlfriend to 'cure' her.
  • Affectionate Nickname: Misaki and Kasumi refer to each other as 'Kazu' and 'Misa'.
  • Animated Armor: The suit of armor from the principal's office. It pursues Kaori for a good while.
  • Anyone Can Die: In true Corpse Party fashion, every single one of the main characters can die in at least one ending.
  • Brick Joke: Yukio's disdain for the green goo makes its appearance once more near the end of the game where he complains over seeing it in the gymnasium.
  • Cannot Spit It Out: Both Ryoto and Tsukiko, for each other.
  • Color-Coded Characters: Good Shiho wears a yellow ribbon, while the corrupt Shiho wears a red one.
  • Cruel and Unusual Death: Plenty, as to be expected from this series:
    • Tsukiko gets her chest gruesomely ripped open, exposing her heart. It's implied this isn't even all the damage done to the poor girl.
    • Yukio ends up having Tsukiko throw sulphuric acid in his face and chest, before forcing him to ingest it, killing him slowly and exceptionally painfully.
    • Misaki gets particularly unlucky by being stabbed in the arm, getting a scalpel lodged in her foot, knifed in the back and then falling to the ground from quite high up, and ending up paralysed and in agony before she finally dies. And the one who did all this to her was one of her best friends, too.
    • Haru. Her death is off screen, but from Iku's description, it was very painful and very grotesque, involving her potentially being flayed alive.
  • Cute Ghost Girl: All of the Heisui girls and Shiho.
  • Death Glare: Yukio and Kaoru both have noticeably smaller/thinner eyes than anyone else in the cast, giving them both this impression.
  • Deal with the Devil: Tsukiko allegedly makes one to escape with Ryoto by killing all the others, but It's just Shiho pretending to be her.
  • Demonic Possession: Happens to Tsukiko more than once.
  • Driven to Suicide: Tsukiko is driven to try and attempt suicide after Ryoto's death in the Downward Spiral ending. They fail, but don't survive much longer...
    • Kaori, in the same ending, accomplishes this, believing they can't return to the life they had before.
  • The Empath: Iku, who can feel what Haru feels as she is murdered. From the description above, it could have been nothing short of traumatizing.
  • Evil Laugh/Laughing Mad: Tsukiko when possessed by Shiho, and Shiho herself.
  • Geometric Magic: The pentagrams from Zero make a reappearance for the Tendo students and Kaori to deal with.
  • Heel Realization: In some endings, Kaori realizes that the things she's done in order to keep Shiho company are unforgivable, and struggles with how to respond to that realization.
  • It's All My Fault: Tsukiko in Downward Spiral, and Kaori when she believes her actions caused Shiho's violence.
  • Helpless Good Side: The non corrupt part of Shiho.
  • Off with Her Head!!: What happens to Misaki in Broken Spirit.
  • Plucky Girl: 'Kasumi'.
  • Shout-Out:
    • There are a few instances of references to the author's original project 'Eldritch Academy'.
    • There are a vast number of shout outs to Zero as well as other Corpse Party fangames. The pentagrams sealing away Shiho, and the black void outside the entrance from CPZ for example, as well as the sheet music Yukio finds, the suit of armor and Kaori using a katana, not unlike Yoshiki from CPif/ifPE and cross fear.
  • Slasher Smile: As with the Evil Laugh, Tsukiko when possessed by Shiho, and Shiho herself.
  • A Tragedy of Impulsiveness: Yukio's on-the-spot attempt to get Shiho to let go of Misaki in the Broken Spirit ending leads to Misaki dying, Ryoto being left brain-dead, and Tsukiko murdering him.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: Kaori, for sending people to the closed space so her sister wouldn't be lonely.
  • Yandere: Tsukiko is this in the Plaything of Love route, but It's actually Shiho controlling her body and not actually Tsukiko herself.
