Villainous Crush / Video Games

  • Mukuro Ikusaba, older sister of Junko Enoshima, in Danganronpa is revealed to have a major crush on Makoto Naegi in the IF alternate timeline story (Word of God states this story to be equally canon to the main game, so this trope applies to the main timeline too). Actually an Anti-Villain type B (humanizing) example due to Makoto's kind heart being what she's attracted to in the first place. Unfortunately, she dies before she can do anything about it and her crush only remembers her for her actions as a villain.
  • In the Digimon (WonderSwan Series), Millieniummon the recurring Big Bad for the Wonderswan series, was at first very dismissive of Ryo, the series's protagonist. Being defeated in the first game by Ryo's army must have awoken something very hidden within Millieniummon, because by the second game, ''Tag Tamers'', Millieniummon's Tsundere behavior and his Terms of Endangerment tendencies were in full effect towards Ryo, and it only escalates from there.
  • In Double Homework, Dennis has one for all the girls, Ms. Walsh, and Dr. Mosely/Zeta, but above all for Amy (since her Twitch channel is a Geeky Turn-On).
  • Final Fantasy:
  • In Final Fight Revenge, Mad Gears member Poison develops a crush on Cody, and visits him in jail (despite the fact it's her fault he's there because she framed him). Note that this was before the official confirmation that Poison was a post-op transsexual, but it was still rather bizarre (She acts very feminine in this particular game).
  • Fire Emblem:
  • First Encounter Assault Recon 2: Project Origin has one of the most utterly horrific examples of this trope you'll ever see. Over the course of the second game, Alma winds up falling madly in love with Sergeant Beckett, which is bad because Alma is an Ax-Crazy ghost girl who appears as a stark naked zombie-like corpse, spends most of her free time Mind Raping and liquefying people, and is far too psychologically damaged to fully understand her feelings. You know all those times you have to fend her off in hand-to-hand throughout the game? She's not trying to hurt Beckett, she's trying to rape him. It gets worse in the ending, where he's strapped down to a chair and Alma walks over with this smug "I've finally got you right where I want you" body language and slowly leans in for a kiss...
  • Halo 5: Guardians: Cortana shows shades of this towards Chief which is hardly surprising considering how devoted she was to him before she Came Back Wrong. Putting a lot of emphasis on wanting him there to see her become ruler of the galaxy. Being visibly broken up over him saying her plans are evil. Then trying to imprison and take him with her rather than killing him for resisting her like she plans to do with everyone else.
  • Cia of Hyrule Warriors is driven by her obsession with Link and jealousy towards Zelda for being the one that he'll always save. Most notably, her personal Temple of Souls is essentially a Stalker Shrine covered with portraits and sculptures of various incarnations of Link, with her personal room being completely covered with portraits of him.
  • Ghosts are typically the most common antagonist in Pac-Man but that doesn't stop Pinky from having a crush on Pac.
  • In Immortal Souls, the crazy vampire the Black Witch is very much into the hero John, openly flirting with him every time they meet. It's implied the attraction is why she turned him into a vampire, and Isis Corporation also "recruited" John mainly so they could use her attraction to their advantage. John is pretty squicked out by the whole deal (mostly understandably pissed off she turned him), but does take (non-sexual) advantage of the matter sometimes.
  • Darth Sion of Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords developed an interest in the female Exile immediately after seeing her; his crush was so intense, it was threatening his connection to the Dark Side, and therefore his life.
  • Metal Wolf Chaos: Due to the nature of the game it's uncertain entirely how serious Richard is being, but in the final level he declares his love for Michael in no uncertain terms before adding he loves him so much he wants to kill him.
  • Primrose's storyline in Octopath Traveler is riddled with this trope as she is often the target of depraved perverts like Helgenish (though he views her more like his property than having any real affection to her) and later on Simeon, her own childhood friend who is revealed to be responsible for all the misery and tragedy in her life, nurturing a destructive obsession with her.
  • In Puyo Puyo, Satan/the Dark Prince, a grown man, has a crush on the teenage Arle. Why? According to official Compile sources (e.g. stated by Dark Prince himself in Waku Waku Puyo Puyo Dungeon), the reason Dark Prince is so determined to marry Arle is because Carbuncle is with her. The full explanation: Before meeting her, Dark Prince had already decided that, once he found his "queen", he would give her that which he treasures the most — Carbuncle — as proof of his love. Of course, since Carbuncle voluntarily chose a specific girl, Dark Prince doesn't even consider other options! This is also why Rulue often tried to steal Carbuncle from Arle in order to get Dark Prince's love. Other materials from Compile imply that Arle is his dead wife's reincarnation, which adds a tragic level to the otherwise comedic interactions between them.
  • In Shantae, Big Bad Risky keeps oscillating between threatening our heroine and trying to flirt with her.
  • Skies of Arcadia: Legends invokes it in the form of Black Comedy, by having Admiral Vigoro attempt to rape Aika in her prison cell, when he first lays eyes on her. Despite being foiled by Vyse and Gilder, he remains persistent and convinces himself that he can win her over by defeating Vysenote . You'll have to fight him over her in three separate boss battles (including one ship battle), though he finally relents after being defeated for the third time.
Vigoro: "You win, Vyse. The strongest man has the right to be with the finest woman."
  • Eliza of Skullgirls is very keen on the Parasite Samson. Her pre-battle opening dialogue is marked by disdain for his current host Filia and asking him to join her or else. In her story mode, she ultimately seals up Filia and Samson with blood to keep Samson alive until she can find another host for him. The feeling is not reciprocated.
  • Bowser has been shown to have one on Princess Peach in several games, most notably in the Paper Mario series. In the first game, he frequently hits on her and even writes in his diary (which Peach ends up reading at one point) that he hopes that she'll like him. This doesn't really show up in many other games, though, and in games where Peach has a playable role, such as Super Princess Peach and Super Mario 3D World, he has no qualms with attempting to kill her when she aims to foil his plans.
  • Tales of Innocence: Chitose is basically one with Ruca. Makes sense given her past incarnation as Sakuya wants to give happiness to Asura (Ruca's original incarnation). Unfortunately, All Love Is Unrequited in both incarnations and versions of the game. After the party takes down Mathias, she resorted to killing herself in the original while in R, she got a Mercy Kill from Kongwai to cut her off from the cycle of reincarnation.
  • Valkyrie Profile: Lezard is fascinated by Lenneth and would do anything to get her for himself.
  • In Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus, Frau Engel seems to have developed a sort of sexual attraction to B.J. Blazkowicz despite wanting him dead for opposing the new Third Reich occupation of the United States. She's seen licking his face on a promotional poster while he's made prisoner and definitely not enjoying it. Before she decapitates him, she calls him "darling" and says that they "would have been so good together".
  • Yakuza 0 has Nishitani develop something like this towards Majima (mostly because of his fighting strength), and he's certainly not very subtle about it. By the end of it he comes to genuinely respect Majima; so much that he sacrifices himself to save Majima from a Dirty Cop while encouraging him to live and die by his own rules.
