Gal Metal is a Rhythm Game for the Nintendo Switch, developed and published by DMM Games. The game is about an all-girl high school metal band, K.M.G. (Kichijoji Metal Girls) who has to fight back against alien invaders using their music. The game differs from many other rhythm games in that it doesn't show any notes on screen - instead, the tutorial teaches you a number of simple rhythm patterns which you're then encouraged to combine freely and make your own rhythms. Oh, and the game is played by waving the Joy-Con controllers like drumsticks!

A teaser for the game made for Tokyo Game Show was revealed September 6th and can be viewed here. The game's first proper trailer can be viewed here, and the official website can be found here.

Gal Metal was released in Japan February 8th, 2018, and later the same year got released October 30th in North America and November 2nd in Europe.

Not to be confused with the 2016 game METAGAL.

Gal Metal provides examples of the following tropes:

  • Alien Abduction: The story starts with the unnamed male protagonist and Rinko Hoshino, drummer of K.M.G, getting abducted by aliens, and told they have been chosen as emissaries of Earth to fight against them during their invasion of Earth - however, only one person can be the emissary. The next day, they wake up to find both of them sharing Rinko's body.
  • Alien Invasion: The plot of the game is about aliens attacking - and your band has to fight back with your music.
  • Fusion Dance: The protagonist is fused with Rinko Hoshino, the drummer of the band, and their spirits now co-exist in Rinko's body.
  • Medium Blending: The cutscenes at the start and end of each chapter are shown as manga panels.
  • Octopoid Aliens: The Octoids, the main antagonists, are octopus-like aliens.
  • The Power of Rock: Your band fights back against the alien invaders by playing music and building up metal power, which the aliens are weak against.
  • Proper Tights with a Skirt: Mani.
  • Rhythm Game
  • Relationship Values: When hanging out with the other band members during Free Time, you'll increase your friendship with them, and as you raise your friendship levels high enough you unlock new cutscenes with the girl in question.
  • That Was Not a Dream: The male protagonist wakes up from what he assumed was a strange dream about aliens... only to realize he's now somehow in the body of the girl from the dream.
