Wartran Troopers is a 2004 Light Gun Game created and published by Konami for the arcade. It's a sequel to Warzaid, although it doesn't follow the story.

The story (if any) takes place in modern times in the year 200X where the players play as soldiers in the National Defense Force (NDF), where they are sent on missions from raids on hostile territory as infantry to commando-type operations through 8 stages.note  Battle results are provided by the various NDF instructors.

WT's gameplay system is based on Lethal Enforcers 3.

You can see the (archived) website here.

One of the instructors, Jake Terry, appears in another Konami game, Action Deka, as a playable character.

Wartran Troopers provides the following tropes:

  • Absurdly Spacious Sewer: The last stage starts when the fireteam infiltrate a hostile military base from the sewers. After being ambushed, the team fights their way out to get to the surface.
  • Artistic License – Military: The player characters are soldiers wearing three-color desert camouflage pattern BDUs with woodland camo-type PASGT vests, yet they wear them even in unsuitable terrain such as winter and forests.
  • Do-Anything Soldier: The weapon pickups such as the rocket launcher and sniper rifle show the soldiers being able to switch between using them and their assault rifle in the field (in an instant). Implied to be justified since the fireteam is sent on various types of missions, which would require some flexibility on the types of weapons they can use.
  • Take Cover!: The player takes cover from enemy gunfire by using the ballistic shield to block them.
  • Urban Warfare: Majority of the time, the levels will be in urban environments in the form of abandoned cities.
  • Winter Warfare: Some levels will have the NDF soldiers fight in snowy towns and forest.
