Video Game / Ultimate Mortal Kombat Trilogy

Go To

Ultimate Mortal Kombat Trilogy is a ROM Hack of the Sega Genesis port of Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 made by a Russian hacker known as Kabal_MK. The game adds nearly every version of every character from the 2D Mortal Kombat gamesnote  as well as most of the stages. In addition, multiple Fatalities have been created for every single character, with most characters having a minimum of three Fatalities while some have up to seven. Every character (including bosses) also has an Animality, a Friendship, a Babality, and a Brutality. There are also various new options available, including an option called "FHIM Resist", which allows the loser of a match to continue fighting even after their life bar has been depleted.

The game was initially released in 2007, but has been updated multiple times until 2014. The game is one of the most popular (if not THE most popular) Mortal Kombat ROM Hacks available, due to the massive roster of fighters from every 2D game, the insane Finishing Moves available for every character, and the overall hilarity that can ensue from the ridiculous options available.

This ROM Hack kontains examples of:

  • Bilingual Bonus:
    • UMK3 Noob Saibot's Friendship in this game includes him saying "Igrushku Spizdili Cyki" which roughly translates from Russian into "They stole my toy, bitches!"
    • Preforming a Stage Fatality on the Rooftop will cause the opponent to fall into a trash bin that suddenly appears in the middle of the stage reading "мусор", which means "trash" in Russian.
  • Denser and Wackier: MK3, UMK3, and MKT were already pretty silly with their crazy finishing moves, but this ROM Hack takes the insanity to the next level with even more silly custom finishing moves and the FHIM Resist feature allowing Fatalities to be interrupted and other hilariously glitchy results.
  • Mind Screw: The FHIM Resist feature can not only allow the loser of the match to preform a finishing move on the winner, but also interrupt finishing moves as well. Both fighters can even finish each other, leaving neither of them alive.
  • Mirror Match: Notable for allowing MK3, UMK3, and MKT versions of characters to fight MK1 and MK2 versions of themselves that were not featured in MKT, whereas that game only included MK1 Kano, MK1 Raiden, MK2 Kung Lao, and MK2 Jax due to The Other Darrin being in effect in MK3, UMK3, and MKT.
  • Not the Fall That Kills You…: Presumably what happens when you preform a Stage Fatality on the Bridge, if the sound of the loser crashing into the ground followed by their scream is any indication.
  • Shout-Out:
    • The Animalities for MK2 Jax and MK2 Mileena are Cub!Simba and a hyena respectively from the Sega Genesis port of the Licensed Game based on The Lion King (1994).
    • MK2 Smoke, MK1 Sonya, MK1 Johnny Cage, and MK1 Sub-Zero have Animalities based on characters from Primal Rage. They are Armadon, Vertigo, Blizzard, and Talon, respectively.
  • SNK Boss: Shao Kahn, as expected, but this game is notable for having two versions of him. While they share the exact same moveset, the MK2 version of him at the very least can be knocked down by attacks such as Liu Kang's Flying Kick, Kano's Cannonball, and Johnny Cage's Shadow Kick. The MK3 version, however, will only barely flinch and get pushed back a bit without falling, usually leaving you open to receive a shoulder charge, projectile, or a hammer for your troubles.
