* UnexpectedGameplayChange: It quickly becomes apparent that the gameplay is vastly different compared to the previous three seasons, and indeed other games in Telltale's repertoire; instead of the fixed camera angles present in other works, an over-the-shoulder camera is used with full freedom to move the camera, not unlike ''VideoGame/LifeIsStrange''.

* ConditionedToBeWeak: Deconstructed, Marlon and Brody are the 18-19-year-old co-leaders of Ericson's Boarding School for Troubled Youth. [[spoiler:Both of them were responsible for the abduction of Minerva and Sophie, who were taken by The Delta, a military-themed gang of raiders who abduct children to conscript them into their gang. Marlon and Brody are terrified of them because their group is mainly composed of children and teens, whereas The Delta is composed of stronger and more capable adults. However, it's eventually revealed that The Delta are not as competent as they let on. The Delta are easily outsmarted by the kids, they only have a small squad to abduct the kids, and they have to make sure they can capture as many children alive as they can by attacking undefended camps. As Abel would point out during an interrogation scene, they are throwing away adult lives for the sake of "a few beansprouts who can barely hold a gun."]]

* TrainingThePeacefulVillagers: [[DownplayedTrope Downplayed]]. While not helpless, the school's walls and its isolated location meant the Ericon's kids haven't had to endure anywhere near as much hardship as Clem. Her experience becomes crucial in preparing for, and repelling the raider assault.

* GreaterScopeVillain: The Delta community, where all the child soldiers are sent to, is never seen, as only their small press gang led by Lily is ever in the area. The community that the Delta is fighting is another example, since they're the reason why the Delta needs new soldiers in the first place. According to Lily, they're much worse than the Delta.

* The only way to save [[spoiler:Louis/Violet]] at the end of the final episode is to [[spoiler:tell AJ you trust him to make the hard decisions]]. The significant choice happens a few scenes before [[spoiler:Louis/Violet]]'s potential death, in a scene where they don't appear, and seems at the time to have nothing to do with what happens to them until it's too late to avert it. Cue a lot of people reloading the last checkpoint, or even restarting the whole episode, after getting their favourite character killed accidentally.

See this post for why these don't fit the trope.

* SurprisinglyRealisticOutcome: Downplayed when it comes to the Season's possible romances, but Clementine will be a lot more nervous about [[spoiler:confessing to Violet than she is to Louis.]] It makes sense as it usually ''is'' a lot tougher to tell someone [[spoiler:of the same gender you like them than someone of the opposite.]]

* SurprisinglyRealisticOutcome:
** Clem's iconic baseball cap is suffering some serious wear and tear with various holes found all over it and half of the "D" having frayed out of its stitching. Considering the fact that she has been wearing her hat constantly in rough conditions for eight years now and likely doesn't have the knowledge of resources to patch it up, this is no surprise.
** AJ has spent his entire life knowing nothing but distrust and hostility towards anyone that isn't Clementine. [[spoiler: When he arrives at the school, his first actions involve savagely biting Ruby, delivering a GroinAttack to Marlon, and just causing trouble for everyone else around him. Because he's ''so'' desensitized to death, he kills Marlon despite Clem already having a handle on the situation, and doesn't understand what he did wrong unless Clem explains it to him]].
** Clementine might have the experience in besieging and defending a stronghold, but she is only backed up by a group of teens who had never encountered hostile survivors before and are only armed with bows and arrows. The raiders are highly trained adults who not only have experience killing people but are also heavily armed. [[spoiler:The result: Clementine's group suffers one casualty, three of them are kidnapped and part of their home is damaged while the raiders only suffer one casualty and one of them is left behind]].
** Marlon's leadership is what happens when a situation forces a kid with emotional problems and no leadership skills to take charge. [[spoiler: He was eventually put into a desperate situation that was detrimental to his group's survival, forcing him to sell out two of his friends for everyone's survival]].
** [[spoiler: Near the end of Episode 2, Abel falls off a second floor balcony and takes a hard landing on the ground below. The next episode shows him dying from internal bleeding he got from said fall.]]
** It's pretty clear that Lilly is ruthless and will stop at nothing to achieve her goals. [[spoiler:Sparing her at the end of Episode 3 will simply result in Lilly taking the chance to stab James in the back, steal his gun and hold the group at gunpoint.]]
** All the kids' effort against the raiders only drives them away. Once they regroup, the Delta will return with a larger force against them. To prevent this from happening, Clem's group decides to destroy their ship to prevent them from returning with reinforcements.
** When kidnapped by a group of people who are willing to murder children, it is best to keep quiet and follow their orders. [[spoiler:Louis learns this the hard way and has his tongue cut off by the Delta if he is captured]].
** The almost hopelessly one-sided CurbStompBattle that Lilly administers to Clementine in ''Broken Toys'', even when the player manages to get the inputs right. As tough as Clem has become throughout the years, she's still a rather small teenager trying to fight a full grown adult, whose fighting skills were also heightened due to her life of warfare, head on. It's only thanks to AJ attacking Lilly by surprise (twice) that Clem manages to survive the fight.
** [[spoiler:When Minerva becomes the last remaining member of the Delta, she becomes determined to avenge her group and decides to kill Tenn so she won't die alone. Minerva has been brainwashed beyond repair and she sees herself as irredeemable. Do you really think that she's going to switch sides after all that?]]

A Date With Rosie Palms is no longer a trope.

*** Willy was sent for [[ADateWithRosiePalms chronic masturbation]], which is extra creepy as he couldn't have been any older than 5 when he was sent to the boarding school.

** In Episode 2, Clementine will at one point go into an abandoned greenhouse to look for supplies, something she does without bringing ''any'' weapons. Sure enough, there are zombies inside and she has to grab a knife conveniently lying nearby to deal with them. For how experienced a survivor Clementine is at this point, this part can stick out as rather mind-boggling.

For how experienced a survivor Clementine is at this point, this part can stick out as rather mind-boggling. It's true that they don't particularly trust her at that point in the story, but the fact that no one, not even her ever, ever suggests she should carry something to defend herself is especially jarring since she's told beforehand that they haven't checked the place in months ''because they know it's crawling with zombies''.

Ambiguous Disorder is not a trope anymore, but a redirect to a YMMV entry.

* AmbiguousDisorder: It is implied that each kids suffer from developmental, psychological or social issues, hence why they are placed at a school for troubled youth. In the third episode, a few of them sit down together and discuss why they are there--Ruby had temperamental issues, Violet [[spoiler:witnessed her grandmother's suicide]], Louis [[spoiler:ruined his parents' marriage intentionally]], etc.

''The Walking Dead: The Final Season'' is the fourth and final installment in the Creator/TelltaleGames ''VideoGame/TheWalkingDead'' series. Taking place a few years after the previous game's end, Clementine has found AJ and is now taking care of him in the walker-infested, apocalyptic world. During a supply venture, the two encounter the residents of Ericson's Home for Troubled Youth, a group of children and teenagers abandoned by adults but still surviving.

I havent play this game for some time but I'm pretty sure James never talk to Minerva at all. In ep 3, Minerva was knockout when James is with Lilly and in ep 4, even if he is alive, James is too busy running away from walkers at the time. Most likely its either Clementine, Louis or Violet but i don't remember

* CowardiceCallout:
** In Episode 3, James tells Minerva that she's weak and afraid after she's joined up with Delta, murdered her own sister to prove her loyalty to them, and grown to passionate hate Clementine for inspiring Minerva's former friends to fight back against Delta instead of following Minerva's example.
** If the player lets Lilly live, Clementine has the option to call her a coward for abandoning her people at the very moment they need her most to save her own hide. Lilly's only response is to deflect the blame by saying she learned it from Clem's late ParentalSubstitute, and all round, Lilly shows ''plenty'' of signs beforehand of being a DirtyCoward.

* CliffhangerCopout: A small one in regards to Violet in Episode 4. [[spoiler:If you didn't save her in episode 2, she will feel betrayed by Clementine and start fighting her at the boat, and the end credits of Episode 3 states that Violet "despises Clementine" after all that happened.
