The Vision of the Ant is a Role-Playing Game developed by Xeaker. You travel the land to find the Demigod Natas who is responsible for the slaying of your wife and the genocide of your people. After weeks of searching, you are finally able to locate Natas and confront him. To help you on your journey, you are able to tame the monsters of the region to support you in battle.

Gameplay is a mix between monster taming like Pokémon, turn-based RPG combat and Roguelike Dungeon Crawling. Starting in the first town with no money and weak equipment the player needs to go into all manner of dungeons, scouring it for loot and more monsters to use as recruits. Each new dungeon you enter is procedurally generated and has a particular theme such as a cave, temple or a forest, all with their own set pieces, treasures and gimmicks.

Combat plays out in turn-based fashion, but using only the attack command will quickly lead to a game over.Skills are learned through a skill tree and each level you have to choose which one to unlock.Elemental weakness and strength is important similar to the Shin Megami Tensei series.

This game provides examples of

  • Absurdly High Level Cap: Even if you fight every enemy and do all quest your level will end up around 24. The max level is 30 and you would have to farm XP for many many hours to reach the level cap.
  • Crapsack World: Through the different NPC dialogues, it appears the world is a pretty bad place. There are Monsters roaming everywhere, and many NPC's are rotten to the core, some woman who cheats on her husband, some husband who wants to poison his wife, and even some old guy who wants you to kidnap a girl so he can keep her in his secluded forest hut.
  • Curbstomp Battle: The first battle against Natas.
  • Determinator: The Ant won't stop until he got his revenge.
  • Downer Ending: Instead of finding some kind of peace after killing Natas, the Ant succumbs to his madness.
  • Dungeon Shop: You will occasionally come across travelling merchants in any of the dungeons.
  • From Nobody to Nightmare: Started off as some random Ant and becomes so strong that he is able to defeat a Demigod in the end.
  • Gotta Catch 'Em All: There are around 60 monsters each with their own stats and skills.
  • Item Crafting: You can make items and equipment through alchemy.
  • Magic Knight: You can build the Ant like this.
  • Randomly Generated Levels: Every dungeon you enter is procedurally built from scratch and will reset if you sleep in the INN.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: In the ending his eyes turned red, showing that his madness took full control over him.
  • The Dreaded: Natas. Many people talk in fear about him and are hoping he just passes by quickly without destroying their village.
  • Villain Protagonist: The Ant. It was he who slaughtered his village and killed his wife. Maybe.
