The Last Neanderthal is a Game Mod for Age of Empires II. This mod is set in paleolithic Europe and follows a neanderthal named Ee as he tries to cope with the changes in his world and way of life.

This Mod provides an example of the following Tropes:
- Breeding Slave: Halfway through the game, Ee is captured by a tribe of Modern Humans. The tribe's shaman tries to make him have sex with a human woman, but he doesn't understand the situation enough to go along with it.
- Died Happily Ever After: After making his Last Stand against the modern humans, Ee is reunited with his wife and child in a paradisal afterlife.
- Driven to Suicide: After finding his cousin's tribe massacred, just a few days after his own tribe's massacre, Ee charges into a forest fire to end his life.
- Due to the Dead: One of Ee's tasks in this mod is to gather flowers for a burial.
- Good Cannot Comprehend Evil: Neanderthals are incapable of understanding the concept of dishonestly, let alone detecting it in others.
- Guile Hero: Ee is one. He uses environmental features to sneak past enemies and sometimes lures wild animals into each other.
- Half-Human Hybrid: At one point the shaman of the human tribe tries to make one by breeding a human woman with Ee.
- Hope Spot: Ee finally makes it to his cousin's tribe after a dangerous journey, only to find them all dead. Truth in Television, as modern humans of European Descent have partial Neanderthal ancestry as a result of interbreeding.
- Humans Are Bastards: Modern Humans, or Others as they're referred to in the game, are the primary villain of this mod. They massacre Ee's entire family without provocation, repeatedly attack Ee on sight, and at one point try to use him as a Breeding Slave.
- Humans Are White: Averted. This mod takes place before the mutation for light skin developed in modern humans, so the ones Ee meet all have dark skin.
- Jerkass Has a Point: One of the human hunters tries to murder Ee to prevent his mate from being forced to breed with Ee.
- Nightmare Sequence: Ee experiences a few of these after his son's murder.
- Outliving One's Offspring: Ee's son Eke is murdered by Modern Humans.
- Last of His Kind: As the title suggests, Ee is the last Neanderthal in existence.
- Last Stand: The game ends with Ee making one against the Modern Humans.
- And Now for Someone Completely Different: There's a brief point in the game where you switch from Ee to Modern Human hunters.
- Xenofiction: This mod used the latest scientific theories to reproduce Neanderthal psychology and behavior.
