The Idiot Apocalypse is a text adventure game created by Josiah Scheidel. It focuses on a sudden mass event in which everyone has had their IQ reduced and you as the hero must track down the man responsible and destroy his "Mass IQ Decreaser" in order to return everyone's intelligence to normal levels and thus save the word. The game was created as a project for a coding workshop that the creator took in 2014 and can be played at https://codehs.com/share/tHmcJ1leqYMg4oTYh9uP

This game provides examples of:

  • Big Bad: The Man Who Has a Different Name Every Time.
  • Bond Villain Stupidity: The Man Who Has a Different Name Every Time is well aware that the hero is capable of stopping his plan, yet sends him on a wild goose chase to Trizabet when he could and should have just killed him right away. This causes our heroes to realize that he is responsible and thus come back to confront him.
  • Brought Down to Badass: Despite having his usually extraordinarily high intelligence - which at the end of the game allows him to win - being reduced to "no smarter than the average person," the player character is still pretty smart and can figure out how to do things like defeat dragons and escape his house before it blows up.
  • Censor Box: At a high point The Man Who Has a Different Name Every Time is about to reveal is real name, but the game instead says "*CENSORED*"
  • Crash Course Landing: In the middle of the game you must land a plane in order to get to the fantasy island Trizabet, as the pilot is unable due to the intelligence decreasing virus. This involves noticing the randomly flashing numbers being described by the game and hearing Lisp Guy's hint about prime numbers, thus needing to enter any prime number between the two flashing numbers in order to successfully land.
  • Suicide Is Painless: The Man Who Has a Different Name Every Time kills himself at the end of the game for no real reason other than to laugh in your face.
  • The Omniscient: The Elf Oracle. The Man Who Has a Different Name Every Time pretends to be this, but in fact he's tricking you in order to create a diversion.
  • Power Limiter: The Mass IQ Decreaser.
  • Press X to Die: If you enter 9999, the game will tell you that you have hit yourself over the head with a can of beans, achieving a "MOST GLORIOUS SUICIDE," and the game thus ends.
  • Speech Impediment: Lisp Guy.
  • Tactical Suicide Boss: The final boss battle is this. After attacking you with one of his various devices/weapons, The Man Who Has a Different Name Every Time will for some unknown reason lay down his defenses long enough for you to go and destroy his machine.
  • Wild Goose Chase: The Man Who Has a Different Name Every Time pulls this trick on our heroes.
