Great Scott!

A Back to the Future Platform Game released for the Super NES in 1993, based on the second part of the movie trilogy.

Following the plot of the movie, you take control of Marty McFly on his hoverboard as he quests through time to stop Biff, who has taken over Hill Valley in 1985 due to his future self stealing the Delorean and giving his 1955 self the 2015 Sports Almanac.

Marty platforms and has standard controls. He can move and jump on top of enemies, and there are various powerups he can obtain by breaking vending machines, like a shield that protects him from a hit, extra hoverboards (hit points), and lives.

This game contains examples of:

  • Bad Future: Of rather, Bad Present 1985. Like in the movie, Round 3 takes place when Marty returns to Hill Valley 1985, and finds a total Crapsack World taken over by Biff.
  • Bootstrapped Theme: The Back To The Future theme makes its grand appearance on the SNES, and greets the player from the title screen.
  • Bleak Level: Round 3-1 takes place in the streets of the crappy, dilapidated Hill Valley of 1985, where Biff has taken over the town.
  • Cool Board: Marty is exclusively on his hoverboard for the majority of the game, which functions both as a jump attack and a well-timed shielding move. Hoverboards also double as extra lives.
  • Fun Size: Everyone in the game, even the bosses, is drawn in an adorable Super-Deformed style.
  • Green Hill Zone: The first level takes place in Hill Valley 2015, where level design is simple and players can get used to Marty's controls. He battles Griff in the malt shop as the boss.
  • Idiosyncratic Episode Naming: Some levels are named after themes, such as "Jack", "Queen", and "King".
  • No Ending: After defeating Biff for the last time, the game immediately goes to the credits and the Sequel Hook for the events of Back to the Future Part III is completely absent.
  • Set Right What Once Went Wrong: The general mission of the game. Biff has wrecked 1985 Hill Valley, so Marty has to travel to 1955 Hill Valley to retrieve the Sports Almanac.
  • Theme-and-Variations Soundtrack: Not only does the famed BTTF theme appear, it is remixed throughout different stages in the game.
  • Tomorrow Land: Round 1 takes place in the 2015 version of Hill Valley.
