Saturday Night Swappin' is a Friday Night Funkin' mod created by Roaming_Pikachu, with the aid of a team of developers. This mod serves an alternate universe of Friday Night Funkin' in which the roles of the characters are swapped.

Currently, the game goes up to Week 3, with Weeks 4-6 still being developed.

In December of 2022, the mod received a large overhaul that redid all the character sprites and fixed up all existing songs, along with adding three new ones for the Freeplay menu.

Not to be confused with fellow Role Swap AU mod Friday Night Flippin'.

This work contains examples of:

  • Adaptational Badass: In their original Spooky Month incarnations, Skid and Pump are just abnormally lucky kids, Toon Physics aside. Here, Skid is said to have power over souls at least, and Pump is also said to be stronger than Skid, with the idea of a confrontation with Pump immediately causing Tankman and Steve to bolt at the end of Week 3 pre-1.3.
  • Adaptational Gender Identity: The Steve is this mod is nonbinary; in Tankmen, Steve is (presumably) a cis man, or at the very least never has a confirmed gender identity like they do here.
  • Adaptational Heroism:
    • Daddy Dearest and Mommy Mearest's swap counterparts, Dear and Mear, are much more moral than their main versions, never trying to kill anyone and only sealing Yandere away in the game console both unknowingly and in self-defense, while Friday Night Funkin' Daddy Dearest sealed Spirit away purposefully for unstated reasons, and is said to have done similar actions to others as well.
    • Friday Night Funkin' Tankman rap battles Boyfriend and holds Girlfriend hostage due to boredom before trying to blow Girlfriend’s head off when losing, only relenting when Pico comes in and slaughters his whole platoon. This Tankman, aka Bossman, is only hired to rough up Girlfriend and never plans to actually kill her, despite his threats.
  • Adaptational Sexuality: Skid and Pump are a gay couple; due to being young children in the source work, their sexualities are never stated.
  • Adaptational Villainy: In the original Friday Night Funkin', Spirit is imprisoned within Senpai for undisclosed reasons and, while he attempts to body snatch Boyfriend and Girlfriend for revenge and a way out, he at least seems to want to avenge not only himself, but Daddy Dearest's other victims, implying some sense of morality. In this mod, however, Yandere is a serial killer that targets children as a SPECIALTY and is only sealed away in the console by Dear and Mear in self defense after he makes the mistake of picking them as his next targets, very much deserving his fate this time around.
  • Adaptation Name Change:
    • Due to now being young kids, and thus obviously not being capable of parenthood, Daddy Dearest and Mommy Mearest are referred to as Dear and Mear, respectively.
    • Skid and Pump go from being nicknames to shortenings of their full names, Skeleskid Skearest and Pumpernickel Pearest.
    • Due to being a street thug rather than an army captain, Tankman is referred to as Bossman.
  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul:
    • In Spooky Month, Skid and Pump are best friends. Here, they're a gay couple and Boyfriend's parents.
    • Tankman and Steve are said to become a couple sometime between Weeks 5 and 6, while their canon Tankmen counterparts are instead simply close friends and squadmates.
  • Adaptation Species Change: Pump in this universe is a "magic being" instead of a human, with Skid and Boyfriend being magical as well. Along with this, instead of being a full blooded demon, Girlfriend is merely a human with some demon blood in her due to being cousins with Boss.
  • Affectionate Nickname: In the removed dialogue, Pump refers to Boyfriend as "Pumpkin".
  • Age Lift:
    • Skid and Pump are adults while Dear and Mear are kids, the reverse being true in their respective sources.
    • In "Hallow Meister", adult versions of the Hatzgang appear in the background; in Spooky Month, the three are young teenagers.
  • All There in the Manual: Over on the mod's official Twitter account, Roaming_Pikachu reveals bits of trivia and lore about the characters.
  • Ascended Extra: In the base game, Steve was just a Funny Background Event in Week 7, occasionally passing by in the tank. Here, they're right by Tankman's side at all times, much like in their home series.
  • Big Fun: In 1.3. Pump was redesigned to be taller and fatter, fitting better with his bright and friendly personality.
  • The Cameo:
    • During Week 3 starting with 1.3, various other characters from Tankmen show up in the background as the Week progresses, in addition to the already present Steve: "Roll Out" includes Sniper and Tankgirl, "Newgrounded" has the Sportsmen and a brief appearance by Skittles, and in "R8 It", Bill is present among the police officers behind the traffic barricades.
    • In "Hallow Meister", Robert, Roy, and Ross are behind Girlfriend, bopping along to the song.
    • At the end of "Tomfoolery", Todd (Eduardo's counterpart) walks in from behind the fence.
  • Child Hater: Yandere's entire gimmick was that he was a serial killer that specifically targeted children, whose reign of terror was only stopped because he made the mistake of targeting Mear and Dear.
  • Devilish Hair Horns: Girlfriend's redesign in 1.3 includes prominent tufts on the sides of her head, fitting with her mischievous personality in the mod. They serve a purpose as well, as they hide her actual horns.
  • Divergent Character Evolution: While the Eddsworld boys were all varied in personality, looks-wise they had the exact same builds, only differentiated by their hairstyles and the color of their hoodies. Their appearances here see them with far more variety: Tord has an average build with his hoodie tied around his waist, Tom is short and chubby with his hoodie draped around his shoulders, and Matt is large and bulky with his hoodie tied over his chest like a sash.
  • Early-Installment Weirdness: 1.1 and 1.2 had relatively similar designs for the characters and included actual dialogue in pre-song cutscenes; in 1.3, most designs were heavily revised, and all dialogue was removed.
  • Floating Limbs: Pump's design starting with 1.3 has both his head floating above his body and gloves with no arms, though "Hallow Meister" does show him with actual arms.
  • Funny Background Event:
    • Like in the canon Week 4, there are background dancers (who appear to be swapped versions of Senpai's background freaks) grooving along to the song, doing the Spooky Dance. Boyfriend is also in the background struggling to stay on the limo.
    • At the tail-end of "Tomfoolery", Todd walks into frame, sees what's happening on the other side of the fence, and gives a disgusted look to the camera.
  • Just Friends: Due to recently breaking up with Pico and not wanting his parents to know he's already in a new relationship, Boyfriend claims Girlfriend is just a friend to Pump.
  • Masculine Girl, Feminine Boy: Pre-1.3, Girlfriend is now a massive Tomboy who is in a relationship with Boyfriend, who's a lot more subdued and easily flustered. Subverted starting with 1.3; while Girlfriend is still a tomboy, Boyfriend is now more confident and flirtatious.
  • Mythology Gag: In 1.3:
    • Girlfriend points in the direction of the notes she sings, like her original counterpart.
    • "Minor Battle" is "South", "Dad Battle", and "MILF" all rolled into one, with riffs and song cues present from all three, including an altered version of "MILF"'s infamous beat drop.
    • Skid's design has blue eyes and a gold ring with a blue gemstone, referencing both The Eyes of the Universe and the dad of the canon Skid.
    • Skid and Girlfriend sing a brief section of "South" towards the end of "Hallow Meister".
    • "Hallow Meister" contains multiple references towards Spooky Month: the song takes place in the house on the hill from "The Stars", the Hatzgang are present behind Girlfriend, and Skid and Pump are dressed as Dexter the Exterminator and the Happy Fella; Skid's backpack has Moloch's (swapped with Eyes) tentacles sticking out of it, while Pump has horns sticking out of his head and pointed teeth lining his mouth, with large cyan eyes all over his arms, referencing both The Eyes of The Universe and Moloch possessing Dexter in "Unwanted Guest".
  • Pumpkin Person: As a "magic being", Pump's head is an actual Jack O' Lantern instead of a mask.
  • Role Swap AU: The mod's main selling point is taking the character roles and flipping them around. As of 1.3, this even extends to the character icons facing away from each other rather than towards each other, and the main menu theme sounding like the original's game over theme and vice versa.
    • Girlfriend is now the one doing the rap battling, while Boyfriend is the tutorial and the one sitting on the speakers, having retired from his rap career due to an undisclosed traumatic incident.
    • Daddy Dearest and Mommy Mearest swap roles with Skid and Pump: Skid and Pump are now the adults, and Boyfriend's parents, while Daddy Dearest and Mommy Mearest (now referred to as Dear and Mear, respectively) are a bratty demon duo, with Mear in particular being Girlfriend's kid cousin, though they are said to be technically older than Boyfriend and Girlfriend and merely look and act so young because of "wacky demon aging".
    • Tankman swaps roles with Pico; Tankman is now a street thug instead of an army captain, and he's been hired to rough up Girlfriend.
    • Senpai (or rather, Spirit) swaps roles with Monster, who is now known as Lemon Sweet. Senpai, now known as Yandere, is now the Giant Space Flea from Nowhere that Monster normally is, although he retains his backstory of being cursed into his video game form by Dear and Mear. However, unlike in the main game, the two of them had done so in this mod unknowingly in order to defend themselves from him, as he was a serial killer who had targeted them for death and now seeks revenge.
    • Currently only present through background events in "Scareez" and Skid and Pump's costumes in "Hallow Meister", The Eyes of the Universe and Moloch have swapped with each other, with Moloch now being the enormous eldritch entity and Eyes being a regular demon.
    • Senpai's fangirls swap with the Mommy Mearest's backup dancers, doing the Spooky Dance for Skid.
    • While the other side of the swap isn't shown, the Hatzgang have swapped with Sheriff John and Deputy Jack, being a trio of police officers investigating the house on the hill — though in their case, they're less investigating it and more enjoying the show.
    • "Tomfoolery" shows Tom and Matt have swapped with each other, Tom now being a lovable goofball while Matt is Not Quite Human (his vampire state from "Matt Sucks" standing in for Monster Tom); Tord has swapped with Edd as the leader of the group, though Edd doesn't appear. At the end of the song, Todd, swapped with Eduardo, also appears.
  • Related Differently in the Adaptation: Daddy Dearest and Mommy Mearest were Girlfriend's parents in the original Friday Night Funkin'. Here, Mear/MM is Girlfriend's cousin, while Dear/DD is Mear's friend with no familial relationship with either Girlfriend or Mear.
  • Suddenly Voiced: For the most part, this game is without voice acting, but in the pre-1.3 in the pre-"Hawty" cutscene, Steve says "How do you function?", fully voiced. Along with this, Tankman starts off "R8 It" with a voiced "You're ugly.", and he audibly chuckles midway through the song.
