Since the experience is best enjoyed without being told in advance, several spoilers in this article for the main victims will be unmarked. Proceed with caution.

"They didn't want to play with me. What a pity... But I will always find more souls to play with... right?"
—Crimtake at the beginning of SALLY: Broken Heart / Sally.EXE [Retake]
SONIC Lost Drive is a Sonic.exe fangame series made by NotSoDevy, which aims to recreate some original games in a whole new light and bringing a fresh experience to the table overall.
Included Content
- SONIC: New Beginning
, which recreates the original Sonic.exe, alongside SONIC (Chinelin) and The Blue Pendrive. - Currently unnamed official Downloadable Content, serving as an Interquel between the first and second games
- SALLY: Broken Heart
(formerly Sally.EXE [Retake]), which recreates Sally.exe and completely rewrites the story. - ROUGE: Final Round
, which is a recreation of Rouge.exe.
These games contain the following tropes:
General
- Adaptation Deviation: What this series stands for. Aside from the overall cast, absolutely nothing is identical to the original creepypasta, introducing new levels and scenarios overall.
- Berserk Button: As revealed in the New Beginning Final Boss, Crimtake's is getting his face smashed in. As soon as Kyle does this, Crimtake loses all patience and tries to kill Kyle then and there through one last (cutscene) chase.
- Named by the Adaptation: In this retake, the Sonic.exe present in this game is known as "Crimtake". This is only in supplementary material, however, and Crimtake is never referred to as such in the games, only going under mentions via pronouns.
SONIC: New Beginning
- Adaptation Deviation: Compared to the norm, the infamous Kefka laugh is not given to Crimtake, but rather to Knuckles, who laughs after believing that he defeated Crimtake after the Boss Battle.
- Adaptation Expansion: SONIC: New Beginning has been confirmed to also cover SONIC (Chinelin) and The Blue Pendrive as a buildup to the actual Sonic.exe content.
- Anti-Frustration Features:
- An early patch added one in the form of Continuous Mode, which can be activated by pressing C on the main menu and allows the game to be played without the game closing at all until the very end.
- Any case where you experience a Boss Battle allows you to sustain unlimited hits without dying, ensuring you don't have to go through the level once more to face the boss again.
- A subtle one in the build-up to the Final Boss; while getting there, Metal/Kyle can use the Ring Spark Field for an unlimited amount of time, which is necessary to traverse the level without springs or elevators to get by. And once the fight starts proper, he's given 10 rings from the get-go to use against Crimtake, and can get more if Crimtake's monitor cycle hits the ring icon.
- Bait-and-Switch:
- "YOUR FATE", the last level of the SONIC 0 sub-game, has one expect to encounter something similar to the Ultimate Chimera. Instead, not only does Crimtake's true form not attack Sonic itself, but a spike flies by and destroys the floor under Sonic, sending him falling into a pit full ot glitchy sprites of himself and causing the sub-game's conclusion.
- At the end of "THE HILLS", Tails approaches Crimtake, who has his back turned to the fox. However, compared to the original game, Tails walks right past him after some consideration, which only gets Crimtake's attention and sets off the chase to occur within Green Hill right away.
- Bittersweet Ending: Sonic ultimately meets his end at Crimtake's hands before his body is used as a vessel for him, and the main three victims still die as per normal. However, Kyle manages to beat Crimtake in a fight, damaging his face and angering the monster, before he escapes safely, leaving Crimtake to undergo a Villainous Breakdown. The text file shown after finishing the fight shows that Crimtake has plans to get Kyle back for managing to escape, while he continues the torment, starting with four more victims in the next game along.
- Boss Battle:
- Knuckles faces down Crimtake at the end of Sky Sanctuary, and has to beat him to progress the game.
- Metal Sonic/Kyle also faces Crimtake at the end of his level as the Final Boss, and this time around, Crimtake pulls more tricks against him and the player, including the Drop Dash and the use of monitors.
- Continuity Nod: The Sonic.exe segment helps explain stuff like the states Tails and Knuckles are in by Broken Heart, and the Final Boss shows how Oil Ocean was set ablaze; the factory catches on fire when half of Crimtake's health is depleted.
- Controllable Helplessness: Ice Cap Zone to a T. Though Knuckles can still move about, him having lost his legs means he can only crawl fruitlessly through the snow, and can't even jump anymore, before he inevitably freezes.
- Developer's Foresight: During the Boss Battle, Robotnik can be seen flying in the background from a distance. Should Crimtake be defeated before the doctor goes the whole distance, he'll speed right off-screen so he can appear in time for the cutscene afterwards.
- Half the Man He Used to Be: Following Knuckles's Boss Battle against Crimtake, the monster tears his legs off and throws him back down to the ground. Without his legs, all he can do is crawl along Ice Cap before he freezes to death.
- Killed Off for Real: In the "Tincan.txt" file shown after finishing the entire game, Crimtake mentions that his Villainous Breakdown caused Sonic's body to be permanently destroyed, sealing the blue blur's fate while his remains are used as a vessel for the monster.
- Long Song, Short Scene: The music for "YOUR FATE" is around a minute long, when, in-game, you'll only hear it for just about half that time.
- Minus World: "WITHOUT YOU", the only level of the Blue Pendrive section. For the game's description to say "May be broken and/or bugged." is quite the Understatement of the buggy chaos of the level, with a broken palette, Sonic's sprite flipping at random, and even the framerate randomly dropping and rising until the end.
- Morton's Fork: The Special Stage and "TURN BACK" have two alternating outcomes each, though none of them have an impact on the rest of the SONIC sub-game and just send you to the next level after seeing them.
- Nothing Is Scarier: Nothing is shown of how Crimtake ended Robotnik's life, with players only getting to see Crimtake's true eyes appearing before a Smash to Black.
- Squashed Flat: Sonic's very painful fate at the end of "TURN BACK" in the SONIC part of the game, in a similar vein to 3.exe and Ten Years of Chasing Tails, which involves him being flattened by one of five marble pillars, the middle one raising before unexpectedly crushing Sonic under its weight, leaving a smear of blood behind on the ground.
- Suddenly Voiced: While Crimtake is normally voiced the whole way through in Broken Heart, he mostly speaks through messages and the title bar for New Beginning. The only times when he audibly talks are when he's done with his Game Over speech, alongside when Kyle defeats him in the Final Boss to signify the start of his Villainous Breakdown.
- Villainous Breakdown: After the Final Boss, Kyle manages to smash Crimtake's face in, leaving the eye area visibly cracked. From his tone of voice and expressions from then on, it's shown that he's uncharacteristically pissed off, and reaches his Rage Breaking Point after the fake eyes fall off entirely and Kyle escapes unharmed.
- You Fool!: Said word-for-word by the results screen of the Special Stage should you succeed in getting the Chaos Emerald, with screams heard in the background before Sonic loses a life anyway and is ejected to Green Hill Act 2.
SALLY: Broken Heart / Sally.EXE [Retake]
- Art Shift: The jumpscare at the very end of the game uses a mix of pixel art, hand-drawn art and a 3D model.
- Call-Back: The game itself lacks any connection to the original overall. That said, it does reference the original in places.
- After Amy/Marie is decapitated and killed, Crimtake taunts her by claiming that she "will NEVER be perfect", a call-back to the "Not Perfect" level from the original.
- Before the death of Sally/Rachel, Crimtake addresses her with "Sally, my love" before kissing her, a direct inverse of the original "Sonic, my love" line from the original creepypasta.
- Downer Ending: Due to this being a classic Sonic.exe game, it comes with the territory. All of the victims are killed off, and Crimtake sets his sights on the player themselves.
- Easter Egg:
- The Sound Test is present on the main menu, but it quickly proves to be non-functional, as all selected numbers instead play static on loop. Before the playthrough of Sally and Tiara, however, it will instead play some distorted speech.
- In Peaceful Hill, if you go to the right instead of immediately following "Sonic" when he runs to the left, you can find Tails's corpse hanging from a tree, which is quickly gone after a brief bout of static.
- Attempting to replay as an already-killed victim too much will cause their distorted soul to appear on-screen for a moment with a distorted scream.
- Enraged by Idiocy: Jumping down the pits in Peaceful Hill one too many times will have Crimtake call you out on this before closing the game on you.
- Evolving Title Screen: Well, main menu, per se. But as the victims are killed off one-by-one, the menu becomes darker and darker each time.
- Player Nudge: If you haven't figured out what to do to access the true final part of the game, Crimtake will address you through the menu screen and automatically switch the option to Tiara for you."How have you not figured it out yet? There's one more victim to play with. Here, let me show you."
- Shout-Out:
- In the Player Nudge mentioned above, Crimtake proclaims for you to "send in the last one" to "end this futile struggle".
"When you're ready, send in the last one, and let's end this futile struggle... TOGETHER."- The ending jumpscare is directly inspired by An Ordinary Battle Amongst Familiar Hills, right down to the messages spawning all over the screen.
- Take That!: This retake doesn't hesitate to prod fun at the original creepypasta's plagiarism wherever it can.
- In the tie-in video
for the game, Crimtake proclaims that his past tricks were stolen from... somewhere. - The text file that pops up on conclusion of the game mentions that Crimtake mixed it up this time to avoid being repetitive in his ways.
- In the tie-in video
- Wham Line: After Sally/Rachel is killed by Crimtake, you'd think that is it for the game, right? However, Crimtake proclaims that you're not done just yet, and to come back later. Open the game again afterwards, and you'll find there's one last victim to play with, that being Tiara.
