Hello, and welcome to Raptor Valley! Have Fun!

Raptor Valley is a VR-Supported Horror Game by Andrew Stout. It was released for PC and VR on September 9th, 2016.

It's late at night, and you find yourself in the middle of the vast field. All around you, tall plants are growing. Your radio cackles on and you learn you're in a place called "Raptor Valley". The person on the other end tells you she intends to send you help, you just need to hold tight.

Hopefully, you can survive that long, because you're not alone.

Raptor Valley contains examples of:

  • Always Night: The game is set at nighttime.
  • Bloodless Carnage: The raptors do not seem to bleed at all when they die from being blasted by a shotgun, and when your own character is caught by a raptor, you are just immediately shown a death message on a dark screen.
  • Evilutionary Biologist: Victoria, the self-proclaimed "Queen of the Raptor Valley". Once your character gets a shotgun, she is indignant that you would even consider shooting her beautiful raptors, and suggests you should just let nature take its course.
  • First-Person Ghost: Played straight; not that it's particularly apparent given how dark everything is.
  • Flare Gun: The first equipment that a drone manages to deliver you is a flare gun. It won't hurt the raptors, but it can help in driving them away.
  • Hollywood Darkness: Averted, to the point of veering in the opposite direction. It is so dark you at first cannot see anything without a flashlight or a flare, even though you have a rather bright starlit sky above. Things get better once you wading through the water, as the sky's reflections make everything a bit brighter and actually allow you to see the raptors from a few meters away.
  • Infinite Flashlight: Played straight; you have enough to worry about without the danger of it running out.
  • Mission Control Is Off Its Meds: In addition to the helpful voice of Alice, who sends you equipment through the recon drones, you'll soon hear that of another woman, Victoria who has apparently created the raptors in the first place. She is sadistically enjoying your character's struggles and treats them all as a game.
  • Public Domain Soundtrack: The credits helpfully acknowledge the music that was sourced from machinimasound.com
  • Raptor Attack: Raptors are stalking you in the game. Thankfully, you can drive the lone ones away with a flashlight and a flare gun, and will get a shotgun by the time they decide to attack en-masse.
  • Short-Range Shotgun: Your double-barreled shotgun rapidly loses effectiveness when fired from anything greater than a point-blank range.
  • Shotguns Are Just Better: Your character eventually obtains a double-barreled shotgun, which has enough stopping power to immediately stop the attacking raptors mid-leap and put them down for good.
  • Sound-Coded for Your Convenience: Raptors will hiss just before they are about to attack your character. On Hard mode, this bit of help goes away.
