Oh, joy! It's Ren and Stimpy in 8-bit!

A Licensed Game based on The Ren & Stimpy Show, developed by Realtime Associates and published by Sega in 1993 for the Game Gear. It was also ported to the Sega Master System in 1995 in Brazil by Tec Toy.

One day in their house, Stimpy finds what looks like a new pair of shoes, and shows them to Ren. Upon seeing them, Ren tells Stimpy that those aren't shoes; they're the hooves of the Great Shaven Yak. He comes to the conclusion that the Great Shaven Yak must have accidentally left his hooves behind when he visited their house last Yak Shaving Day. Stimpy wants to keep the hooves, but Ren advises against this, as there might never be another Yak Shaving Day if he does. Thus, the two go off on a quest to The Great Frozen North to find the Great Shaven Yak, return his hooves, and save Yak Shaving Day.

This game is an action platformer where you can play as either Ren or Stimpy in their quest to find the Great Shaven Yak. Ren and Stimpy travel through five different worlds; The Blacker Than Black Forest, The Stinking Dry Desert, The Stinking Wet Bayou, The Perilous Mt. Hoek, and The Great Frozen North. Each character has their own unique abilities, activated by pressing the jump button and up on the D-Pad simultaneously. Ren can do a super jump, while Stimpy can do a butt stomp. They can also attack enemies by pressing the action button. Ren can toss toothbrushes, Stimpy can cough up hairballs, and both characters can use special weapons like a remote control, a bar of soap, and slices of powdered toast once they find them. Each world ends with a boss battle.

This game provides examples of:

  • All Deserts Have Cacti: The Stinking Dry Desert naturally has cacti, some of which shoot prickles.
  • Amphibian Assault:
    • Toads serve as enemies in The Stinking Dry Desert. They hop in place, harming Ren or Stimpy if they get too close to them.
    • Frogs serve as enemies in The Stinking Wet Bayou. They hop in an arch, so Ren and Stimpy have to stand in the right spot to avoid getting hit.
  • Bigfoot, Sasquatch, and Yeti: The Abominable Snowman serves as the game's Final Boss.
  • Body Pocket: Both Ren and Stimpy have these, and if either character is chosen, they will carry the other character in them.
  • Bubblegloop Swamp: The Stinking Wet Bayou serves as the game's third world.
  • Bully Bulldog: A mean bulldog serves as the boss of The Blacker Than Black Forest.
  • By the Lights of Their Eyes: When you pause the game, the screen goes dark, and all that can be seen of Ren or Stimpy are their eyes.
  • Death Mountain: The Perilous Mt. Hoek serves as the game's fourth world.
  • Dem Bones: Wildebeest skeletons serve as enemies in The Stinking Dry Desert.
  • Ground Pound: Stimpy can do a butt stomp by pressing up on the D-pad and the jump button simultaneously. This move allows him to break through weak branches and uncover secret areas underneath them.
  • Gruesome Goat: Mountain goats serve as enemies in The Perilous Mt. Hoek. They charge at Ren or Stimpy if they get close to them.
  • Hair-Raising Hare: Rabbits serve as enemies in The Great Frozen North. Besides hopping, they also attack by tossing snowballs.
  • Idle Animation: Unpausing the game reveals what Ren and Stimpy have been doing while the game was paused; Ren has been scratching his butt and Stimpy has been adding to his spit jar. After a few seconds, they'll look up at the player in embarrassment and then flash an awkward grin.
  • Improbable Weapon User: Ren's basic attack is tossing toothbrushes at his enemies, while Stimpy's is coughing up hairballs. Other weapons the duo can use upon finding them are a remote control that fires lightning bolts, a bar of soap that fires bubbles, and slices of powdered toast.
  • Life Meter: Both Ren and Stimpy have their own, which consists of rubber nipples. Each of them start out with three and can hold up to five. When they take a hit, half a rubber nipple disappears, meaning they can take up to ten hits before losing a life. Collecting health power-ups adds half an extra rubber nipple until the life meter is fully replenished.
  • The Lost Woods: The Blacker Than Black Forest serves as the game's first world.
  • Medium Awareness: If you get a Game Over, Stimpy laments to Ren that there will never be another Yak Shaving Day and it's all their fault because they failed in their quest. Ren tells Stimpy to calm down, assuring him that they're in a video game and they can always try again another time.
  • Mighty Lumberjack: A lumberjack serves as the boss of The Perilous Mt. Hoek. He attacks Ren or Stimpy by tossing axes at them.
  • Mosquito Miscreants: Giant mosquitoes serve as enemies in The Stinking Wet Bayou.
  • Password Save: This game has a six-letter password system. After you complete a world, you get a cutscene where Ren and Stimpy are attacked by an enemy, and what they say after being attacked is revealed to be the password for the world they've reached.
  • Piranha Problem: Piranhas serve as enemies in The Great Frozen North. They attack Ren or Stimpy by jumping out of the water.
  • Public Domain Soundtrack: "Night on Bald Mountain" by Modest Mussorgsky serves as the boss theme. You also hear a section of it when either Ren or Stimpy loses a life.
  • Recycled Soundtrack: This game features 8-bit renditions of many of the show's themes, including the intro and outro themes, the Muddy Mudskipper theme song, the Happy Happy Joy Joy song, and even The Log Song.
  • Rope Bridge: These are present in The Perilous Mt. Hoek, and Ren and Stimpy have to take care when crossing them, as they collapse.
  • Scary Scorpions: In The Stinking Dry Desert, scorpions appear as enemies, taking on the forms of mirages of glasses of lemonade.
  • Shifting Sand Land: The Stinking Dry Desert serves as the game's second world.
  • Slippy-Slidey Ice World: The Great Frozen North serves as the game's fifth and final world.
  • Smelly Skunk: Skunks serve as enemies in The Blacker Than Black Forest. They attack Ren or Stimpy by spraying at either of them.
  • Snakes Are Sinister: A cobra serves as the boss of The Stinking Dry Desert. He attacks Ren or Stimpy by spitting at either of them.
  • Spike Shooter: The porcupines in The Blacker Than Black Forest shoot quills, while the cacti in The Stinking Dry Desert shoot prickles.
  • Spring Jump: Ren can do a super jump by pressing up on the D-pad and the jump button simultaneously.
  • Super Drowning Skills: Ren or Stimpy instantly drown if they fall in the water in The Stinking Wet Bayou or The Great Frozen North.
  • Vile Vulture: Vultures serve as enemies in The Stinking Dry Desert and The Perilous Mt. Hoek. They attack Ren or Stimpy by laying eggs.
