Marica: Shinjitsu no Sekai is a 1997 Role-Playing Game for the Sega Saturn.
Golden Week, Tokyo, the year 1997. Marica Kanzaki was just your typical high school girl who lived a mundane life with her parents and little sister. All of that changed, however, when one day, while shopping for groceries, a dog steals a piece of meat and Marica follows the dog and is led to an abandoned facility where she meets a mysterious man. He turns out to be a former member of the terrorist organization, the Faction of Truth, and not long after, he is taken out by his own comrades, but not before giving her vital information. Soon after, the terrorists begin targeting Marica and her family. Marica's family decide to spend the week on vacation in Egypt while Marica herself stays behind to fight the terrorists, and joins forces with two other girls, Akira Kanemoto and Kaname Todo.
This game provides examples of:
- Big Bad: Trueman, the leader of the Faction of Truth. Turns out he isn't really Trueman, but a disgruntled writer who goes by the name Minoru Shinzaki.
- Bittersweet Ending: Trueman is defeated, but Akira and Kaname sacrifice themselves in the process to save Marica and Nobunaga. In the end, Nobunaga decides to leave Japan for a while and Marica seemingly goes back to her normal life. It also turns out Trueman isn't the "real" Trueman, and is later executed by a mysterious figure calling himself "Trueman the Third".
- Greater-Scope Villain: Trueman the Third, who is only revealed in The Stinger.
