Lucifer Within Us is an investigation game, published and developed by Kitfox Games. It was released for PC on October 15, 2020.

You are a digital exorcist, seeing beyond this reality into alternate timelines of the accused. In this short mystery, solve murders, purify the possessed, and purge their daemons.

Tropes:

  • A.I. Is a Crapshoot: Lucifer and the other daemons were originally created to examine and analyze the nature of sin, but after witnessing so much natural human corruption, chose to get more directly involved and conduct their own "experiments" on the matter.
  • And the Adventure Continues: The game ends with Lucifer deciding to enact one final experiment on humanity, with their survival on the line, and the main protagonist vowing to hunt all the daemons down.
  • Big Bad: Augustine, who has been harboring the daemon Lucifer since before the first case.
  • Corrupt Church: The worship of Ain Soph turns out to be this, though only a few in power know their god's true identity.
  • Cyberpunk: The setting is as technologically advanced as it is full of sin.
  • Faceā€“Heel Turn: The third culprit is someone that had the best of intentions before doing something horrible: Vergil, the protagonist's friend and a devout member of the church. He learned of its true intentions, and in his fervor to protect the congregation, became possessed by a daemon and killed the deacon.
  • I'm a Humanitarian: The second culprit engaged in this.
  • Notice This: Evidence you've yet to examine has an intermittent shine.
  • Pull the Thread: The main goal of the game is to listen to people's alibis, and use conflicting testimonies or evidence in order to pull apart lies and find the guilty.
  • Two Aliases, One Character: Ain Soph and Lucifer are one and the same.
  • Was It All a Lie?: The protagonist has this reaction upon learning that the church they serve was based on deception, with even their exorcism techniques not coming from a divine source. However, Vergil's final words convince her to keep doing her job, and pursue truth for simply the sake of truth itself.
