Light Fairytale is a Unity RPG developed by neko.works and released episodically. The first episode was released in 2019 and the second was released in 2021. These episodes can be played on PC, Playstation 4, and XBox One.

Haru and Kuroko live in an underground empire where travel between sectors is restricted by class. Despite their attempts to live humble lives in the lowest sector, Haru runs afoul of corrupt soldiers, causing him and Kuroko to be slated as fugitives. With the law against them, Haru and Kuroko will have to seek help from rebel groups and other people who have been driven out of imperial society.

This game contains examples of:

  • 100% Completion: Each episode has completion percentages based on all game events and battle zones, which are tracked across all save files to account for mutually exclusive events.
  • A-Cup Angst: Kuroko is angered when her boss, Daisuke, makes fun of her flat chest.
  • Ambiguous Situation: At the end of Episode 2, Haru finds the Mysterious Girl standing among several dead soldiers. Despite her threat to kill him too, he grabs her hand and tells her to run away together with him before they both get killed. It's unknown if he has fully processed that she's the one who killed the soldiers and therefore makes her a fellow fugitive or if he believes a wild beast killed the soldiers and is still on the loose.
  • Augmented Reality: The player has AR shades that when toggled, provides markers for interactable people, hidden objects, encounter zones, and exits to other maps. The imperial soldiers have AR shades that allow them to identify citizens in the empire's database, making it dangerous if one is labeled a criminal.
  • Butt-Monkey: The fat Class 2 soldier has a Running Gag of being knocked out by his mutant or mechanical allies, only for his allies to fail to defeat the party anyways. One has to wonder how he got promoted from Class 3 to begin with.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: Kuroko doesn't like it when Haru gets close to other girls, such as Emiko and Miyu.
  • Difficulty Levels: This game has Easy and Hard modes, but surprisingly no normal mode. The difficulty can be changed in the title menu and affects all saves rather than individual saves.
  • Dual Wielding: Kuroko wields a pair of gloves while Kid wields twin daggers. This means they have two weapon orb slots and can enhance their physical attacks further by stacking elemental orbs.
  • Dystopia: The empire is situated in a pillar where everyone is separated by class, and the party needs fake clearances to get anywhere other than the lowest level. The soldiers have free reign to abuse people and animals without repercussion. Worse yet, those who get exiled from the empire, often for reasons beyond their control, are sent to a snowy wasteland where it's even harder to find resources.
  • Episodic Game: The developer plans to release the game in separate episodes with the ability to carry over resources from the previous episodes' save files. The first episode was release in 2019 and the second episode was released in 2021.
  • Evil Poacher: In Episode 1, a soldier attempts to capture a tallcat in order to cut off their tail and sell it. The fact that there's a market for tallcat tails and that tallcats are almost extinct implies he's not the only one doing this.
  • The Exile: Kid, who got arrested for stealing something from a worker, is among many people exiled to the snowy deeplands outside of the pillar.
  • Fat Bastard: Played with. One recurring Class 2 imperial soldier is described as fat in the dialogue boxes, but he has the same model as all other soldiers. He's still a smug and overconfident antagonist who thinks he can capture the party.
  • Glass Cannon: Kid has the highest speed and can dual-wield daggers, which means she can stack two elemental orbs on her weapons for increased damage. However, she's not very durable.
  • Good is Not Nice: Daichi is an ungrateful Jerkass to the party even after they save him from goblins, but he is trying to save Junk City by convincing the Ice Elemental to stop her endless blizzard.
  • Hint System: In the tips section of the main menu, Miyu the catgirl can give the player advice on how to progress the story.
  • Hopeless Boss Fight: In Episode 1, Haru is forced into a duel with an unnamed imperial general, but her stats are too high for him to win.
  • Humble Goal: Subverted. At first, Haru just wants to one day leave the pillar and look at the real sky. After several bad experiences with the imperial soldiers, he starts gaining some interest in joining or helping the rebels. It doesn't help that the empire's oppressive laws keep him from moving out of the Lower City and achieving his dream.
  • Kindhearted Cat Lover: Haru is affectionate towards cats and goes as far as to defy a soldier who attempted to poach one. He also takes an immediate liking to Miyu, a catgirl.
  • La RĂ©sistance: There's a group of rebels who oppose the empire. Haru wants to join them, but when he finally reaches their hideout in the deeplands, they reject him because he doesn't look like much of a fighter.
  • Laser Blade: Orb Swords are blades of energy that gain the elemental properties of the equipped orb. Haru and several imperial soldiers wield these weapons.
  • Leaked Experience: Averted. Haru can only have one partner in battle and all reserve members don't get EXP. Fortunately for players in Episode 2, by the time the second partner joins, both partners have high enough stats to survive the rest of the episode.
  • Lightning Bruiser: In Episode 1, Kuroko has only slightly less HP and attack than Haru, but has better speed and magic stats. She also has two orb slots total for her weapons, which means she can stack the damage boosting effect of elemental orbs and surpass Haru in overall damage output. Overall, she is much easier to keep alive in battle compared to Ayaka and Kid, who suffer from low HP.
  • Limit Break: When player characters take enough damage and fill their Fury gauge, they can activate a special Fury skill. However, if a character makes it to the end of battle with a full Fury gauge, their gauge will empty.
    • Haru's first Fury is Protective Wind, which heals a small percentage of HP to the party. His second Fury is Elemental Storm, which deals group damage to the enemies.
    • Kuroko's Fury is Quintuple Combo, which deals large single-target damage.
    • Ayaka's Fury is Flowerbed, which heals a medium percentage of the party's HP.
    • Kid's Fury is Jumble, which allows her to use a grenade for free.
  • Magically Inept Fighter: Haru has high HP, has decent speed, and has high attack power, but his intelligence stat for magic is low.
  • No Good Deed Goes Unpunished: Haru stops a greedy soldier from poaching a cat. The soldier labels him a criminal and forces him to become a fugitive.
  • Socketed Equipment: The Orb system is similar to the Materia system of Final Fantasy VII. However, weapons and armor automatically gain the affinity of elemental orbs equipped to them.
  • Squishy Wizard: Ayaka has the highest magic stats of all playable characters, but has low HP, attack, and speed. She also can't use physical attacks, but has a free healing skill.
  • Summon Magic: Some bosses, such as Executioner and Ice Elemental, drop orbs that can summon an entity to deal party-wide damage. These orbs can also be equipped to weapons and armor, granting these pieces of gear bonus elemental damage or resistance to a stronger degree than normal elemental orbs.
  • Tranquil Fury: When Haru calls Ayaka "auntie" one too many times, she corrects him with barely restrained anger.
  • Ungrateful Bastard: Ex-Elder Daichi refuses to thank Haru and Ayaka even after they free him from the goblins and is unnecessarily rude towards them.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: If the player goes into the obstacle course to get to the Final Boss of Episode 1, but forgets to give materials to Miyu, she'll berate them in the Hint System for failing to uphold their end of their deal.
