Knights Chronicle is a free-to-play mobile RPG developed by Netmarble Games for Android and iOS.

The game was initially released in 2016 in Japan and due to its success was eventually released in June 14 of 2018 in global. Knights Chronicle is a 3D mobile game with a strategic game-play and very anime-inspired styles. It features a large cast of playable characters with clean and attractive graphics.

Knights Chronicle would go on to celebrate its third anniversary update in late May of 2021. While the game was released in June, the updates are monthly and always take place at the end of the month, likely the developers did not want to postpone it until end of June.

The game is most known for its fun game-play modes and beautiful graphics, however it is also known for the controversial (and now removed) costume cost feature in which select character outfits costed real money and would grant buffs.

The game's story line focuses on the planet Garniel, a world where spirits and souls continue to meet and learn what they really are. The central plot is about a gifted young boy, Theo, who is destined to save the world from chaos and destruction. Theo, along with his closest friends; kind and girly mage Leona and aloof but gentle clairvoyant Lydia will do whatever it takes to save the planet from evil.

Knights Chronicle provides trope examples such as:

  • Allegedly Free Game: The game is free to play and does give a nice set of awards throughout the game by completing missions and tasks. The summoning rates are not horrible either and the only thing that ruined it's reputation was the former costume pay feature. While that has long been removed now, a lot of the fan base was justifiably upset and many left it since then.
  • The Chosen One: Theo could be very much considered chosen by the goddess Garniel as explained by Garniel's female human-like creation Lena.
  • Crossover: The global server featured four collaborations in total; Yo-Kai Watch, RWBY, Fairy Tail and Fullmetal Alchemist.
  • Really 700 Years Old: All of the drayans are ancient mythical humanoid creatures which were sealed for over 100,000 years old.
