Level Complete. Next stop, dinnertime!

Gourmet Sentai Barayaro (or Gurume Sentai Barayaro) is a 1995 Beat 'em Up game for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, developed by Winds and published by Virgin Interactive Entertainment. It's quite possibly the most weird and surreal one of the bunch from the mid-'90s back when the genre was at its peak.

Set in a technologically-advanced future suffering from a food shortage, a crime syndicate led by the villainous "Bath" have stolen the world's supply of protein, and it's up to three laboratory-bred heroes - Bonjour, Mademoiselle, and Trés Bien - to save the day. With the trio spending the entire game beating up tofu-headed aliens, playboy bunnies, shapeshifting female mutants, tiny people, and a Baron Samedi-lookalike before confronting Bath, and along the way collect varieties of ingredients for them to make dinner with at the end of each stage.

The game would later be re-released by Piko Interactive in 2018, with an official English translation coming out one year later in 2019 under the title of Gourmet Warriors.

Gourmet Sentai Barayaro contain examples of:

  • Borrowin' Samedi: One of the last few bosses is labelled none other than "Samedi". He's a black man wearing a voodoo-inspired witch doctor-style outfit, including a tie which can turn into a fist to pummel you and a tall hat which he can use to attack your character and forcefully transform you into a random enemy.
  • Cooking Mechanics: At the end of each level, you're given the opportunity to use the various collected food to mix-and-match your own meal, and your character will be shown eating it before the start of the next level. The health boost and power-ups varies depending on your combination.
  • Faceless Eye: The Final Boss, "Bath", alternates between a humanoid form and a giant eyeball. In his humanoid form his eye is on his chest like an insignia.
  • Gratuitous French: Your three player characters are named Bonjour, Mademoiselle, and Trés Bien. Just because.
  • Happy Dance: Occasionally in-game, if Bonjour is left idle by the player for an extended period of time, for some inexplicable reason he'll perform a dance that flexes his pecs.
  • Harmless Enemy: The "Oh Damn!" enemies (yes), a giant tofu-headed humanoid, is incapable of fighting back (well, now you know where he gets his name...) and is slow as heck, where he's nothing but a punching bag for your character to collect points from beating up. "Oh damn!" does explode after his health is spent, the proximity of the blast being capable of hurting the players slightly, but it's still easily avoidable.
  • Joke Character: Most of the secret characters are worthless.
    • Jerk, Mr. Phlegm, and Acolyte's only attack is a Suicide Attack. You only have one life in this game.
    • Oh Damn is slow and can't attack at all.
    • Hand Knife and Appliance have only one attack and die in one hit. Appliance's one attack isn't even any good.
    • Swimmer can only move by hopping, making him very awkward to control.
    • Piko Piko would've been one of the better secret characters if it weren't for her poor recovery rate. If she's knocked down, she's as good as dead.
  • Lilliputians: This game contains finger-sized tiny people as enemies, usually seen piloting machines to attack the players. If their machines are destroyed, they'll even try to retaliate by performing a Colossus Climb to stamp on the players' heads before they're shaken off.
  • Meat Moss: The boss arena you fight Samedi in is covered by living flesh.
  • People Jars: The three playable heroes, Bonjour, Trés Bien and Mademoiselle, are depicted awaking in a laboratory in translucent glass tubes before they become selectable.
  • Phallic Weapon: One of the bosses, "Ah! Yeah?" the floating robot, has a syringe for a dick. Which it will use to stab your player while it hovers all over the place.
  • Playboy Bunny: There are female mooks dressed as playboy bunnies showing up in several stages, for reasons the game never really bothers to explain.
  • Slide Attack: A move you can perform by pressing the forward and attack buttons. Enemies in your way gets knocked down, and it's very handy in taking out the pint-sized tiny human enemies.
  • Spinning Piledriver: One of the available Finishing Move you can execute on enemies, by pile-driving them into the sky before smashing their heads into the ground, with their legs dangling comically in the air. For added bonus, you can even stand on their legs to stomp them further for good measure!
  • Traintop Battle: One stage is set on top of a train where you fight a boss, a giant robot named... "Ah! Yeah?" (No kidding, that's seriously his name)
  • Two Guys and a Girl: Bonjour, Trés Bien and Mademoiselle, the three playable characters. The latter being the only girl.
  • Voluntary Shapeshifting: The Final Boss, "Bath", repeatedly switches his forms around. While his default form at least resembles a humanoid figure, from there he can transform into a giant floating eye, half a tornado, or even a living cage which he uses to trap and squash you if you're caught.
  • Wolverine Claws: The PakoPako variety of enemies wear clawed gauntlets to slice and dice the players.
