Friday Night Dustin' (Video Game)
"We don't know his intentions. Neither his thoughts. What we did know, is that he wanted to battle."

"who are you...? you are not the human i know."
Sans to Boyfriend.

Friday Night Dustin', formerly known as Friday Night Funkin' Dusttale: Remastered, is a remake of a Friday Night Funkin' Game Mod created by the director of the original mod, WassabiSoja, based on the Undertale AU Dusttale.note

The story takes place during the events of the original Alternate Universe. After many Genocide runs made by the human just to see if something changes, a tired and broken Sans, who got killed so many times and watched his friends (including Papyrus) die all over again, decides to take matters into his own hands and make his own Genocide run in order to overpower the human and get rid of them once and for all. For that, he needs to kill all of his friends and his own brother by himself before the human does, slowly turning him completely mad. But something, or rather someone, intervenes: a blue-haired boy who wants to rap battle him. Sans agrees, but everything starts to go downhill from there...

A fan-made spin-off for this mod, called Friday Night Funkin' Dusttale Best Friends, made by IceyDuNoir (one of this mod's composers) is on the works, with a demo being released.

This mod's Sans also appears in Friday Night Funkin' Boss Rush, a now-cancelled Crossover mod made by the same creator and directed by AmazeinG666.

Not to be confused with FNF: DUSTTRUST MANIATIC FUNK, a still-in-demo mod based on a recursive Alternate Universe based on Dusttale.

Friday Night Dustin' contains examples of:

  • Adaptational Villainy: Most depictions of Sans murdering Papyrus in Dusttale usually have this be the breaking point for his sanity. Even then, he isn't happy over what he's done to his brother. In V3 of the mod, Sans is already so far gone that not only does he not express remorse after killing him, but he outright mocks Boyfriend over beating him to the punch first. Keep in mind, Papyrus had only been reduced to a head before he expires at the end of the song.
  • Ambiguously Evil: Phantom Girlfriend, who is apparently encouraging Boyfriend to keep going. Just to escape the underground or to kill every monster in his path in the process?
  • Ambiguous Situation: While it's true that, besides Sans, the human can also see Phantom Papyrus, despite being Sans' hallucination in the original AU, and while it can be presumed Boyfriend can see him because of Chara possessing him, it's unknown how he exists after Sans' death, since he's supposed to be in his mind.
  • All for Nothing: Sans dreadfully comes to this realization when a fully-possessed Boyfriend fatally wounds him after hitting him only once during their final fight him despite having far more LV, concluding that his, for all of his efforts, the latter's Determination was far more powerful than his.
    • Dustbelief!Papyrus comes to this realisation too after "BONETRAVAGANZA" with his Famous Last Words, right before Dustbelief!Boyfriend kills him, namedropping the trope.
  • Ascended Extra: In V2, Pico only served as the playable character in a bonus song without any type of story. In V3, he serves as a part of the Big Bad Ensemble who's responsible for the plot starting in the first place.
  • The Bad Guy Wins: "REDSCREEN" ends with Spirit trapping Dustshift!Chara behind a screen depicting Hating Simulator and successfully corrupting the Underground.
  • Bilingual Bonus: "Anthropophobia" is the fear of people, fitting for a skeleton who both hates and is afraid of a genocidal human.
  • Bonus Level: After finishing the first two songs in V3's Demo, we have a freeplay exclusive song "Homie-Cide", taking place in Dustswap (a hybrid AU of Dusttale and Underswap) with it's versions of Sans and Papyrus as the participants. In the full version, "Homie-Cide" and Dustswap as a whole is part of an unlockable side-story.
  • Death by Adaptation: Girlfriend in the first and second versions of the mod is just as alive as she is in the main game, but in the third version, she's dead and a phantom, with the full version revealing that she was shot in the head by Pico.
  • Demonic Possession: In V2, Chara possesses Boyfriend after "The Murderer", "Drowning" and during "Anthropophobia" and "Hallucinations". In V3, Boyfriend is possessed at the beginning, though it's by the Player instead of Chara.
  • Demoted to Extra: In V2, Chara is the one pulling all the strings. In V3, the role of the main antagonist goes to the Player while Chara doesn't even exist by the time the events of the story takes place. According to Word of God, this was meant to abide by assumptions that Chara was disgusted by the Player's actions in the original Undertale game after doing a second genocide run, calling them "a freak".
  • Dissonant Serenity: Besides the fact of Boyfriend battling Sans, there's also the fact that both Boyfriend and Girlfriend don't give a shit about Undyne melting during "Red Megalovania" and "Drowning" in V2, with the latter even chilling on her shoulder while bopping to the beat as always.
  • Downer Ending: All of the side-stories end on one; Dustswap ends with both Dustswap!Papyrus and Dustswap!Chara dying in the collapsing CORE, Dustfell ends with Dustfell!Sans and Dustfell!Boyfriend being Buried Alive within Mt. Ebott's throne room, Dustbelief ends with Dustbelief!Boyfriend killing Dustbelief!Papyrus and Dustshift ends with Dustshift!Chara being sealed within Hating Simulator and the Underground being fully corrupted by Dustshift!Spirit.
  • Elective Mute: Both in Undertale, Dusttale and even in this mod while possessing Boyfriend, The Fallen Human/Chara is shown perfectly speaking despite of Frisk's silence and Boyfriend's Simlish, yet they don't sing at all in "Last Hope" and just keeps attacking Boyfriend.
  • Fearless Fool: Boyfriend, as expected, isn't afraid of challenging a murderous and scary-looking skeleton with bone manipulation, blasters and telekinetic and karmic-related powers despite already having an idea of his dangerousness after the first song.
  • Hero of Another Story: And sometimes Villain too, but aside from the main story which takes place during Dusttale, there are also four keys that can be bought from Gaster which unlock songs that take place in similar AUs to Dusttale; The Mirror Key unlocks "Homie-Cide" and then "Thermal Shock" which take place in Dustswap (a Crossover between Dusttale and Underswap), the Wrath Key unlocks "Overthrone" which takes place in Dustfell (a Crossover between Dusttale and Underfell), the Guilty Key which unlocks "Haunted" and later "BONETRAVAGANZA" which take place in Dustbelief (a Crossover between Dusttale and Disbelief) and the Virus Key which unlocks "REDSCREEN" which takes place in Dustshift (a Crossover between Dusttale and Storyshift) with Senpai serving as a substitute to Boyfriend.
    • The final stream build replaces Chara & Kevin with Girlfriend & the Spooky Kids through their own songs (Thermal Shock & Inopia).
  • In Spite of a Nail: In V3, despite Boyfriend reaching Papyrus before Sans, Sans still manages to kill Papyrus before Boyfriend due to the latter wasting time singing instead of killing him immediately. Sans even mocks Boyfriend for missing the opportunity.
  • Leitmotif: In V2, almost all of Sans' songs are different remixes of his famous boss theme "Megalovania".
  • Mêlée à Trois: Both "Cornered" and "Heatwave" have Sans and Boyfriend fight each other as well as a boss from Undertale's Genocide route; the former has Undyne/Undyne the Undying, while the latter has Mettaton NEO.
  • Money Is Experience Points: Inverted. After beating a song, you'll receive EXP you can use to buy new songs in Gaster's shop.
  • Multiple Endings: Just like in the main game, there's a Genocide and a Pacifist Ending.
    • The Genocide Ending is unlocked if you continually attack Sans in the moments the game tells you to throughout "Anthropophobia", while Boyfriend gets possessed by Chara. This unlocks the song "Hallucinations", in which Sans is killed and the now possessed Boyfriend encounters Phantom Papyrus, Sans' hallucination of Papyrus, and gets completely possessed by Chara just like Frisk, continuing the cycle of killing monsters once again.
      • In V3 onwards, it gives you "The Uprising" after "Breaking Reality". There, BF encounters Tankman who had survived the genocidal onslaught from Pico, who intrudes midway through the song. After he is killed, BF & Pico then clash with each other, both fully consumed by determination and hellbent on killing each other and anything that stands in their way. The credits end with shots of the monster's remains throughout the run.
    • The Pacifist Ending is unlocked if you don't attack Sans throughout "Anthropophobia" while Boyfriend is possessed. This unlocks the song "Last Hope", in which Boyfriend battles Chara in his own mind, resisting the fate of getting completely possessed and finally putting an end to Frisk's/Chara's killing spree.
      • Version 3 has the "Redemption" ending in its place with a similar method. Through the song "You Are", Boyfriend faces off against The Player instead & resists the possession entirely before Sans finishes them off. He then thanks Boyfriend before resetting once more so that Pico was free from The Player's influence & didn't kill Girlfriend. Meanwhile, Sans faces off against The Player again, now more determined to stop their conquest.
    • Version 3 also has a secret ending if you don't mash space during the song "Avulsion". Basically, Sans is left all by himself & doesn't want to reset in anticipation that The Player will return.
  • Oh, Crap!: Sans actually loses his trademark smile when Undyne transforms into her Undying form and breaks free from his blue bones.
  • Outside-Context Problem: The prelude cutscene to "REDSCREEN" reveals that Senpai (and by extension Spirit) is this to Dustshift!Chara and their version of the Underground; as it turns out, he's been corrupting the Underground up to that point, and sabotaged their plans of revenge in the process.
  • Secret Level: In V2, Finishing both the Genocide and the Pacifist endings gives you access to the song "Wounded Shooting", in which you play as a psychotic-looking Pico who battles Sans.
  • Solemn Ending Theme: Getting the Genocide Ending in V3 has the song "Til' the End of Time" play alongside the credits. It's a Lonely Piano Piece with the lyrics being about Boyfriend wishing that he took Sans' advice while he had the chance, and begging the player to go back so he can see Girlfriend again.
  • Suddenly Voiced:
    • Just like how his EX form introduced himself, Mettaton NEO makes his presence known in "Heatwave" with a fully voiced "OH YES~!".
    • This is the mod that gave Sans actual vocals instead of just his grunting from the original game or any other instruments. As expected, this version sounds like Patrick Star, after the "maybe it's the way you're dressed" meme.
    • In the Genocide Ending of V3, Boyfriend challenges Pico to fight to the death despite the latter asking if he really wants to continue this cycle due to him practically being immortal at this point. Pico, instead of talking back in the usual soundbite dialogue Undertale is mostly known for, responds with a gleeful "Yeah. Me too." with fully dubbed voice acting.
  • Source Music: "The Rebellion" features a band of ghostly Tankmen soldiers providing the music, with Skittles on drums and two generic soldiers on guitars.
  • Wham Shot: Sans fatally shooting Papyrus with a Gaster Blaster in "Kinemorto".
