Tropes:

  • Adaptational Early Appearance: Oglivie first appears in "Torment" before getting his own song in "MS Paint-o-Rama", which chronologically takes place before his appearance in "Torment".
  • Adaptational Name Change: "Parastic" introduces Boyfriend and Girlfriend's "Encore" counterparts, who are mobian creaturesnote . Boyfriend's Encore counterpart is called Nigel, while Girlfriend's is called Sirena.
  • Battle in the Rain: It is raining throughout "Novenary Nihilism", with visible drops covering the screen.
  • Cyclops: STI is revealed to be this once he reveals his true form.
  • Decomposite Character: MX's role in the various mods featuring him are taken by different characters with each mod, with his appearance in Mario's Madness song being taken by Lord X, his appearance in Super Mario Bros. Funk Mix: Game Over being taken by STI, and his appearance in Mario FNF Port being taken by Frostbite.
  • Dual Boss:
    • Inverted for "One More Confrontation" and "Torment" in which the player plays as two characters against a single opponent (Girlfriend and Tails against Sonic.OMT for the former, Oglivie and Darrel against Desire for the latter).
    • Played straight for "Double Trouble", in which Blade and Blue team up against Boyfriend.
    • "Nonvenary Nihilism" also inverts it by having 2 player characters, in this case Pico and Sonic, against the single oppponent Mr. Kitsune.
  • Expy:
    • Sorrow Tails is this for Beta Luigi, both being the "sidekicks" to the main heroes of their respective franchises, being depressed, and holding flowers.
    • Smoker Sonic and Nerd Tails are this for Mario and Luigi from Luigi's Day Out, with Smoker Sonic being the grungy Manchild who's a dick to his little brother (Surrogate brother in Tails' case) and Nerd Tails being the wimpy younger brother who gets picked on all the time, though Smoker Sonic and Nerd Tails' relationship appears to be worse than LDO Mario and Luigi's, as Smoker Sonic smacks Nerd Tails constantly throughout "Ring Outage".
    • SMD is the mod's "main replacment" for MX, and shares the traits of having a disguise based off of the titular character with a single detail being off, in SMD's case, appearing as Sonic but with black stripes on his shoes instead of white stripes, and his true appearance being much larger and wider with Black Eyes of Evil (Only SMD's eyes have white pupils whereas MX's eyes are completely empty) and Tombstone Teeth.
  • Eye Scream: Vector.WMV, upon closer inspection, has glass shards from his broken magnefying glass sticking out of his eyes, which are bleeding because of said shards.
  • An Ice Person: Frostbite resides in the Ice Cap Zone, his songs follow a theme relating to the cold, and his appearance even resembles ice to an extent.
  • Leitmotif: The main song structure and instrumental of "Dragon Rush" is based around "Relic Maze 1" from the original Freedom Planet.
  • Madness Mantra: The background of "Paroxysm" displays the message "YOURDEATHBEDISNEAR"note  over and over.
  • Mythology Gag:
    • Sonic.OMT takes Mr. L's place in "One More Confrontation" instead of a proper Expy that would involve Tails taking Luigi's place, owing to both characters coming from games made by Mr. Pixel Productions.
    • STI's name is an acronym for the real-life Sega Technical Institute, and his existence is tied to an in-universe Expy of Super Mario 64: CLASSIFIED using Sonic Xtreme, the very game whose Troubled Production led to Sega Technical Institute's dissolution.
    • The melody of Sonic 3D: Flickies' Island's second boss theme for the Genesis version repeats frequently throughout "Overdrive", owing to that very song's frequent use in Nega Sonic Unleashed.
    • Sash Lilac, alongside Carol and Milla, who spectate the action in "Dragon Rush", comes from Freedom Planet, which seems like an outlier in comparison to other songs if it weren't for the fact that it started life as a Sonic fan-game before becoming a full-blown indie game with Sonic serving as its roots.
  • Not Good with Rejection: Implied with Vector.WMV, as the description for the soundtrack upload of "Unforgiving Detective" states that he was "cucked by Vanilla", which may explain his mood, given that he's meant to be the mod's equivalent to Suicide Mouse.
  • Promoted to Playable: Oglivie and Darrel, the opponents of their respective songs ("MS Paint-o-Rama" for Oglivie, "Droop Snoot" for Darrel), are the player characters of "Torment".
  • P.O.V. Cam: "Scion" takes place from Professor Benedict's point-of-view, just like how "Shinto", the song "Scion" is based on, was from Gray's point-of-view.
  • Shark Man: Sirena, Girlfriend's Encore counterpart introduced in "Parasitic", is a Mobian shark.
  • Wolfpack Boss:
    • "Alter-Ego" has Sonic fighting a total of 4 evil versions of himself, specifically, Metal Sonic, Fleetway Super Sonic, Scourge, and an Archie-fied Sonic.EXE.
    • "Multiversal Calamity" has Boyfriend and Girlfriend fighting 3 EXE versions of Mario and Sonic respectively, that being Athena, PS 135, and Mario.EXE for the Marios, and Frostbite, OMT, and Sonic.EXE for the Sonics.
