Intro

Eco Fighters is a horizontal scrolling shooter set in the future where advanced space travelling allowed mankind to spread across the universe and start new colonies on other planets. But corrupt companies sought to exploit this to line their pockets, the most corrupt being Goyolk K.K. whose machinery reduced planets to barren wastelands called dread spheres with Doctor Moly taking two of the machines Goyolk dumped illegally and rebuilding them so that his niece and nephew can stand a chance against the corporation and stop its planet killing spree once and for all.

Tropes:

  • Big Bad: Kernal Goyolk is the president of Goyolk K.K. who seeks to exploit Planet Elwood to line his pockets.
  • Big Good: Uncle Moly reconstructs two fighting machines and has his niece and nephew fly in them to stop Goyolk's exploitation of the planet.
  • "Blind Idiot" Translation: Some game script has a few typos in some stages, a clear indication of the game being made in Japan.
  • Braids of Action: Neneh wears her hair in braids and is as determined as her brother to stop Kernal Goyolk's destruction.
  • Color-Coded Multiplayer: Ice's machine is colored blue while Neneh's machine is colored pink.
  • Cool Old Guy: Dr. Moly is clearly an old man and seeks to restore the planet once Goyolk is defeated once and for all.
  • Ecocidal Antagonist: Goyolk, who wants to turn the planet into a dread sphere.
  • Evil Laugh: In the last level, Goyolk does one after the Molies find out it was his hiding place.
  • Fat Bastard: Kernal Goyolk is morbidly obese and lacks qualms for reducing entire planets to wastelands of death.
  • Greed: Kernal Goyolk will do anything to line his pockets with no regards to how much death he will inflict on the populace of any planet.
  • It's a Wonderful Failure: Lose and the Continue screen is a comic of your fighter crashing to the ground…only to hit and get stuck in a billboard. If you Continue, the comic changes to your pilot regaining control and taking back to the fight.
  • Lack of Empathy: Kernal Goyolk has no empathy for any place he fills with "violence and death" as long he lines his pockets.
  • Light Is Good: Neneh wears a white shirt and pants while her brother Ice wears white gloves and boots. Both are determine to put an end to the chaos Kernal Goyolk is spreading to the planet.
  • Narcissist: Several objects modelled after Kernal Goyolk hint at this such as the giant robot boss in the second-to-last level to his face being carved into a mountain side during the rail way level.
  • Planet Looters: Goyolk is a Corrupt Corporate Executive who intends to strip your planet of all its natural resources and turn it into a lifeless, polluted "Dread Sphere."
  • Sore Loser: Goyolk expresses outrage at being defeated in stage 6 and in the final stage proclaimed he cannot be defeated so easily.
  • Yonkoma: The continue screen features a 4-koma, where the player character's ship plummets to the ground of a nearby planet, and sees a vision of a beautiful girl in a bikini. Whether she turns out to be an ad from a billboard or a real girl that the hero barely misses depends on whether you continue or not.
