* GenreThrowback: ''[=DMC5=]'' plays very similarly to the previous over-a-decade old installments of the series, rather than taking cues (such as RPGElements and semi-open worlds) from more modern melee action games like ''VideoGame/GodOfWarPS4'' or ''VideoGame/NierAutomata''. It makes ''[=DMC5=]'' feel like, as Eurogamer described it in their review, "an outrageously pretty [[UsefulNotes/PlayStation2 PS2]] game".

* PostFinalBoss: The real final boss fight is arguably [[spoiler:Dante vs. Vergil]] in Mission 19, to the point that this fight, rather than the one in Mission 20, is the final encounter in the Bloody Palace for all four characters. The boss fight in Mission 20, [[DownplayedTrope while far from a cakewalk]], is markedly easier and quicker due to [[spoiler:Vergil presumably being as tired from the previous battle as Dante is, and Nero just unlocking his own Devil Trigger and being at full strength]], and was likely intended as more of a victory lap [[spoiler:and catharsis for Nero]] than a true final test for the player. It's more pronounced on the first playthrough, where [[spoiler:Nero has a constantly regenerating Devil Trigger]], but even on later playthroughs on higher difficulties it's still a significantly easier fight than the one in Mission 19. Completely averted in [[spoiler:Vergil's]] campaign, as Mission 20 fight against [[spoiler:Dante]] is much, ''much'' harder than one in the previous mission.

Added DiffLines:

* RandomizedTitleScreen: On an initial playthrough, the main menu is an exterior shot of Nico's van parked inside of Nero's garage. In a NewGamePlus, the camera either moves ''inside'' or closer to the van where several of the game's characters are sitting or idling around, performing a randomized set of actions.

** Urizen fight in Mission 10 is impossible to win even with right skills as it abruptly ends after merely 30 seconds.only a minute. Same thing will happen if you actually manage to break his shield in that short time.

Added DiffLines:

* HopelessBossFight: Happens multiple times:
** Urizen fight in the prologue. He's far more aggressive than any enemy you fought before, his attacks start dealing a lot of damage after a while, he has a shield protecting him which takes forever to break and your move pool is very limited at this point. While it is technically possible to beat him which unlocks the secret joke ending (and immediately unlocks the next difficulty mode if you do it on the first playthrough), you're expected to lose this fight.
** The second phase of Urizen fight in Mission 8 is largely the same deal. Just as in the prologue, beating Urizen here gets you the secret joke ending.
** Urizen fight in Mission 10 is impossible to win even with right skills as it abruptly ends after merely 30 seconds.

Added DiffLines:

** Getting hit by the FinalBoss [[spoiler:Vergil]]'s special "dive" attack results in a dramatic slow-mo as you receive massive damage from it.
