Created by PabloMK7, CTGP-7 is a mod of Mario Kart 7, based off of CTGP Revolution. It adds over 50 new tracks not present in the original game, many of which were created by the community. Additionally, there are options to swap out the pre-existing characters with new ones, ranging from simple reskins (such as Ice Mario and Boshi), to full-on new characters (most notably Waluigi and Sonic), as well as a variety of new karts to replace some of the old ones.

The game can be downloaded here. For legal reasons, you'll need to find a copy of Mario Kart 7 yourself.

This Mario Kart 7 modpack provides examples of:

  • Achievement System: CTGP-7 has five special achievements that, when completed, award the player with special Palette Swaps of different characters as well as a special Discord role if the player's account is linked to the game. Three of these achievements are based around getting certain milestones in all custom cupsnote , while the remaining two are awarded for completing all missions with a perfect score and achieving 5000 VR (versus rating) in Custom Tracks Worldwide (CTWW).
  • A.I. Breaker:
    • The computers have a tough time dealing with 200cc and up, and begin to fly off the track at 700cc and up.
    • Already an A.I. Breaker in the vanilla games, the Blooper item is a computer's worst nightmare here. Due to the Blooper's ink now severely reducing handling, the computers drive like drunken crackheads when they're inked.
  • All the Worlds Are a Stage: A variation. Rainbow Road DX, the final track of the Rainbow Cup, combines all of the Rainbow Roads up to Mario Kart 8 (minus the ones from the Mario Kart Arcade GP series) into one giant Rainbow Road.
  • Artificial Stupidity: Setting the cc modifier to over 700 causes the computers to fly off the track like they're complete idiots. It gets super crazy at 9999cc.
  • Astral Finale: This mod adds 6 different Rainbow Roads to the game, but two of them (Star Slope and Miku's Birthday Spectacular) don't look like traditional ones.
  • Awesome, but Impractical: The gold kart parts (besides the glider) — they're hard to obtain, but powerful once you get them.
  • Balance Buff: Two underpowered items received mechanical changes in order to make them more worthwhile:
    • The Fake Item Box, re-added after getting cut due to time constraints, suffered from being painfully easy to spot in previous games. Here, it looks like a regular old item box from a distance, only to reveal its true red form up close; by that point, it'll be too late for most drivers to get out of its way.
    • The Blooper's handling debuff has been amplified, making vehicles very hard to control while inked. Additionally, it also now provides a slight speed drop.
  • Big Boo's Haunt: Played Straight with N64 Banshee Boardwalk, Banshee Boardwalk 2, and SNES Ghost Valley 2.
  • The Bus Came Back:
    • Waluigi (who was cut from the vanilla game due to time constraints), ROB, Dry Bowser, Dry Bones, Birdo, Baby Mario, Baby Luigi, Baby Peach, Baby Daisy, Petey Piranha, Toadette, and Funky Kong, all of whom were absent from 7, come back in this mod as optional character swaps.
    • Robo Mario is a character originating from the Mario Kart Arcade GP games who hadn't made an appearance in that series since its 2007 installment. Here, he makes his return as a possible swap over Metal Mario.
    • For the Mario series as a whole, we have Boshi, Midbus, and Mr. L, three RPG characters who hadn't returned since their debut games, return as character swaps over Yoshi, Bowser, and Luigi respectively.
    • Also returning to the series after a long absence is the Ninja from Final Fantasy, who hadn't made an appearance in the world of Mario since Mario Sports Mix, all the way back in 2010. Here, he's an optional swap over Mario.
    • The Face Raider, Arcade Bunny, and eShop Bag, three 3DS mascots that were abandoned after the 3DS's end-of-life, were also added as possible character swaps.
    • As for items, the Fake Item Box makes a return after getting cut from 7, complete with Balance Buffs to make it more powerful. The Mega Mushroom also returns in 1.4, and is functionally identical to its home game.
  • The Cameo: Several via the various sponsors on the tracks, such as Wendynote , a Piantanote , a Shine Spritenote , an Espeonnote , a Dolphinnote , and a stemless Ice Flowernote .
  • Casino Park: Bingo Party is a prime example of this trope, complete with a DS Waluigi Pinball-esque item roulette sound.
  • The Computer Is a Cheating Bastard: Same as the vanilla game, and even more when you select 'Mirror' in the menu and set the CC modifier to 50cc, which is supposed to be the easiest difficulty in the game.
  • Crossover:
  • Easy-Mode Mockery: Downplayed Example: You can play at 100cc and select 50cc via the cc modifier plugin that comes with the download, but that extra beat that is added when you're in first place in the other ccs doesn't play.
  • Everything's Better with Rainbows:
    • If turned on in the options menu, reaching the final lap of one of the Rainbow Road tracks will cause the 3DS's LED to glow rainbow.note
    • The Rainbow Cup takes this up to eleven as it's comprised entirely of Rainbow Road tracks, with the finale being a medley of all the other Rainbow Roads.
    • Upon completing all five of CTGP-7's achievements (detailed above), the player is awarded with Rainbow Chain Chomp as a playable character.
  • Forest of Perpetual Autumn: Concord Town and Autumn Forestnote , both of which are coincidentally based off of tracks from CTGP Revolution.
  • Fungus Humongous: Mushroom Mountain, a remake of Mushroom Peaks from CTGP Revolution, was added in the 1.2 update.
  • Game-Breaking Bug: In earlier versions, if you play with CPUs online, someone's gonna get disconnected soon.note . As of 1.3, CPUs now appear in CTWW and that disconnection bug is (mostly) fixed.
  • Gold Makes Everything Shiny: Four of the Palette Swaps awarded for completing various in-game milestones are shiny gold versions of preexisting characters, specifically Shy Guy, ROB, Chain Chomp, and Yoshi. Metal Mario also has Gold Mario as an optional swap, but it's unlocked from the start.
  • Glowing Eyes of Doom: The Custom Character Mr. L has these all the time, but they just look cool and don't affect gameplay.
    • There's also a setting that has the LED on your 3DS glow blue when a Spiny Shell is released, yellow when a Lighting is used White when a Blooper is releasednote , or rainbow when you reach the 3rd lap/section on certain tracks (Vanilla Rainbow Road, SNES Rainbow Road, Star Slope, Miku's Birthday Spectacular, N64 Rainbow Road, GBA Rainbow Road, RMX Rainbow Road, and Rainbow Road DX only).
  • Harder Than Hard: Set the CC modifier over 300 and see what happens. The result is extremely fast and the CPUs go flying off the track like complete idiots.
  • Kids Driving Cars: Baby Mario and Baby Luigi are in the game, both as options over the playable Lakitu.
  • Lethal Joke Character: Version 1.1.14 added Chain Chomp. May seem like a joke, but if Chompy can do Tennis, then why not Mario Kart? He's also a Palette Swap of Metal Mario, a character that a lot of players use in online races, as shown in this video.
  • Lethal Lava Land: This mod adds a few tracks with this setting, mostly more Bowser's Castles.
  • Ludicrous Speed: Setting the cc modifier to 9999cc causes this to happen. This even happens to the computers, too!
  • Mascot: Red Yoshi. Aside from being an optional Palette Swap for Yoshi, a Red Yoshi appears on the 3DS Home Menu banner for CTGP's launcher, and the Egg 1 is now red by default. Additionally, the main bot on the official Discord server is known as RedYoshiBot. In earlier versions, Red Yoshi also appeared on the title screen.
  • Mind Screw: Miku's Birthday Spectacular, a ridiculously difficult track that looks incredibly bizarre and is deceptively tough. It's also categorized as a Rainbow Road for some reason.
  • Nintendo Hard: This game's take on Mission Mode is significantly more difficult than its DS counterpart, especially if one tries to get a perfect score. Extremely precise item usage and knowledge of the courses being raced on is mandatory for those seeking to get 10/10 points.
  • No Fair Cheating: The mod has a built-in anticheat system, something which the base game notoriously lacked, and will instantly and permanently ban cheaters.
  • Non-Indicative Name: Autumn Forest, Concord Town, Castle of Time, and Big Blue don't say that they're retro tracks from CTGP Revolution (for the former three) and F-Zero (for the latter) in-game.
  • Palette Swap: A few of the character swaps are simple palette changes:
    • The mod adds 8 additional colors of Shy Guy (blue, pink, white, black, green, light blue, and yellow, as well as gold if you obtain one CTGP-7 achievement).
    • The Blue Toad is an optional swap over the standard Red one, while Metal Mario can be replaced with Gold Mario.
    • Yoshi has a whopping nine different color options outside of a standard greennote , which goes up to 10 if you obtain four achievements and unlock Gold Yoshi.
    • In addition to the above golden swaps, ROB and Chain Chomp have gold skins for completing two and three achievements respectively, while the latter also has a rainbow swap for completing all five of them.
  • Precious Puppy: Poochy, ported over from Mario Kart Tour as a possible swap over Yoshi, is just as adorable as ever.
  • Put on a Bus: Honey Queen, Lakitu, Daisy, Luigi, and Donkey Kong had this fate in earlier versions, but later came back as optional swaps.
  • Shifting Sand Land: Doge Desert and DS Desert Hills. The former combines it with the infamous memes "Doge" and Darude Sandstorm, too!
  • Shout-Out: SMO RC Challenge is one to Super Mario Odyssey.
  • Slippy-Slidey Ice World: CTGP-7 adds several ice tracks, including Evergreen Crossing, N64 Frappe Snowland and Sherbet Land, Stargaze Summit, Glacier Mine, Frozen Grotto, Frosty Heights, and RMX Vanilla Lake 1.
  • Springy Spores: Mushroom Mountain and Cliffside Circuit both feature these.
    • GBA Sky Garden, Rainbow Road DX, and several others also have a bouncy mushroom.
  • Troll: In Doge Desert, there appears to be a large shortcut by the Doge Sphinx. Try to drive through it with mushrooms, and an invisible wall will reveal itself, decorated with "No U"s and Doge trollfaces.
