Blue Portals is a fairly popular Game Mod of Portal. The story seems to be about the BPDC (Blue Portals Development Center) company that ripped off a lot of Aperture's stuff. You play as Victoria, one of their test subjects. There's a catch, though. You have to use the single-portal gun the whole way through.

Notable for several things. Firstly, the game includes new dialogue reminiscent of the original Portal for both the AI, the turrets and the rocket turret. Secondly, due to the new setting, it completely redoes the art to fit with the mood of the new setting. Thirdly, a new testing element is introduced every single level, not counting the original elements.

Besides the main game, there's a few bonus levels and a bonus campaign that lets you use a two-portal gun and a gravity gun clone. You can also download a free DLC mini-campaign about painting cubes with gel.

Blue Portals 2 was planned, but cancelled due to its ridiculous file sizes at only midway through development. Blue Portals: Anniversary Edition is currently in development, and was approved for the now-retired Steam Greenlight.

Tropes

  • Antepiece: Most chambers start with a demonstration of a new mechanic.
  • Bonus Stage: The Bonus Levels consist of regular portal gun and gravity gun puzzles.
  • Developer's Foresight: Some easter eggs in the chambers (primarily the posters) are only visible through noclip. This is acknowledged in one poster.
  • Game Mod: This mod is one of Portal.
  • Genius Breeding Act: The purpose of the tests.
  • Fun with Homophones: One of the teas available at the tea party is the letter 'T'.
  • Palette Swap: The player model is one of Chell.
  • Population Control: The BPDC seems to be a facility that filters good genetic material through testing aptitude. Those who pass the tests get to go to the Blue Portals Reproduction Facility.
  • Self-Abuse: Masturbation is a crime against nature, according to one of the posters within the facility.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: Several plot points, such as "0ver5e3r" and the repopulation program, are never resolved. Then again, the original Portal didn't answer much either...
  • A Winner Is You: Let's just say the ending isn't very exciting.
  • Zombie Apocalypse: This seems to be what's going on outside the BPDC facility, inferred from the emergency radio broadcasts and graffiti.
