Bed Lump is a Game Mod of Undertale released in September of 2020.
You play as a wriggling lump of blanket(s) called a 'bed lump' instead of a human, and your goal is to get to the Bedrrier.
Rule of Funny and Hilarity Ensues.
Bed Lump contains examples of these trope lumps:
- Adaptational Species Change: Sans... probably? He introduces himself as "slump the skebump." As another bed lump, he tries to dance on the Bedrrier and is killed by Asgore, so his ghost tells the player character about the bedrrier and warns him of Asgore.
- Ambiguous Gender: Just like in the parent game, the main character's gender is unknown, if existent at all.
- Anti-Frustration Features: The mod offers a "patient mode" and a "rush mode", the latter giving you a run button similar to Deltarune's run button. You can pick between the two modes once you get the cell phone in The Ruins.
- Curb-Stomp Battle: Flowey pulls this off on Asgore with a single pellet (much to his own surprise). Then Flowey turns into his Photoshop form and threatens to remove the lump to reveal the "human" underneath, except there isn't a human, it's just a second lump... which is actually a bomb. Flowey is killed by the bomb as soon as it goes off, and the original bed lump is free to head to the Bedrrier.
- Lighter and Softer: Much of the more emotionally-heavy parts of Undertale are completely absent, instead focusing much more on humor. The game also contains absolutely no combat.
- Mood Whiplash: Although it's moved on from as suddenly as it arrives, there's a startlingly effective callback directly before the halfway point.Papyrus: I JUST KNOW THAT THE REAL UNDYNE WOULDN'T DO THIS! THE UNDYNE I KNOW IS KIND, AND UNDERSTANDING... SHE DOESN'T JUMP TO CONCLUSIONS... AND SHE GIVES EVERYONE A SECOND CHANCE! LIKE HOW YOU GAVE ME A SECOND CHANCE... BY TRAINING ME TO BECOME A FAMOUS ROYAL GUARD!
- Multiple Endings: Upon reaching the Bedrrier, you get the choice to either jam in it or not.
- Jam: You and the five bed lump SOULs jam in the bed, filling it with bed beats energy until it overflows, turning the Earth itself into one big bed lump.
- Do Not: Realizing that jamming in the Bedrrier would prevent the monsters from ever being able to leave the Underground, you decide it's not worth it and wander off to do other things.
- Rule of Funny: Bed Lump takes itself much less seriously than its parent game, both in soundtrack and gameplay. The entire reason it even exists is an optional one-off gag in the source material that, as the description points out, lasts only a few seconds (depending on how long the player feels like playing with it before they move on).
