Video Game / Advent of the SMLPS

Go To

Advent of the SMLPS was an RPG Maker series created by Countbleck479. There are three games, currently. The first game is finished, but is being remastered in RPG Maker VX Ace. The second game is finished, and is being tested by forum admin Sausagefanclub. The third game is in development.

The first game takes place in the Sausage MLP Forums, where a villain named Valstriros took over the forum and also took control of the active users. Two users who had just joined named Cryptghast152 and Exava847 must stop him. The third game actually gives Valstriros his own set of baddies.

The games were originally hosted here. However, the website went down years ago, and it is unclear if they were preserved anywhere else.

This game contains examples of:

  • Affably Evil: Nintendoandfriends, when possessed. Samnrak could qualify.
  • Alternate Timeline: In the Advent 2 Deluxe version otnayupidstay’s creating, Crypt Ghast and Exava are defeated, which leads up to a different game also created by otnayupidstay called The Journey.
  • Awesome, but Impractical: New Year's Eve Bombs in game 2, which can reduce any enemy's HP to one. Sausagefanclub only sells these after you've beaten the game (And talked to him twice) for the ridiculous price of 999001 bits, and they only have a 5% success rate.
  • A Winner Is You: Sausagefanclub quotes this trope exactly if you talk to him after beating the game.
  • Bait-and-Switch Boss: In one of the Colossi areas, it seems like you’re about to fight a Malamar, but Sinistar appears and immediately eats the Malamar.
  • Berserk Button: Whenever someone says "chortle" around the Count, he gets pretty darn angry.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Christie. She acts like a sweet little girl - but when you don't want to play with her, she becomes a freaking demon.
  • Big Bad: Valstriros in games 1 and 2, Xarpid in game 3. Whether he was pulling the strings in games 1 and 2 is unknown.
  • Bonus Level: The Graveyard, Vampire Village, The Planes of Dementia, and the Seven Jewels stages.
  • Boss Corridor: Valstriros's Lair in game 2.
  • Boss in Mook Clothing: Jupiter Sparks, in all the games they appear in. Tons of HP, hard-hitting, and can instakill you, if you're not careful. Thankfully, it's only a 5% chance for an instakill, and they're rare.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: The forum members.
  • Breaking the Fourth Wall: Exava does this often. So does the Count. Exava even uses this skill in the Jewels sidequest so you can get the final Jewel.
  • Cloudcuckoolander: Irnbrox. The Count definitely qualifies, as well as otnayupidstay especially in the Dementia sidequest.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Definitely the "battle" against Xarpid from the 3rd game. Both phases of it, with Xarpid winning first, and then the Count coming and utterly destroying the Big Bad.
  • A Day in the Limelight: The deluxe version of Advent 2 otnayupidstay’s creating features this, as well as the 3rd game postgame.
  • Defeat Means Friendship:
    • Most of the forumers, although some of them may hold a grudge against you (the Count being the prime example of this due to his sidequest).
    • This is sort of the case if you go back to stages after beating Xarpid(excluding Xarpid’s Lair, for obvious reasons). If you manage to beat the boss there, he/she/it’ll head back to the Lair and you can challenge them again and/or talk to them. Eventually, they’ll give you a letter that’s the key to the Extra Mode file, and once you get all the letters in the right order, you unlock the password for it! (Quick warning: Extra mode is brutally punishing.)
  • Demonic Possession: Valstriros does this to pretty much all the forum members.
  • Developer's Foresight: If you manage to talk to one of the forumers in the lair while said forumer is already in your party, they will have a unique dialogue exclusive to them meeting themselves.
  • Disc-One Final Boss: Valstriros from games 2 and 3.
  • Disc-One Final Dungeon: Valstriros's Lair from games 2 and 3.
  • Disc-One Nuke: Shade from game 1 and Saint from game 2.
  • Dual Boss:
    • The first otnay fight from Advent 1. Featuring Sentry Mark III.
    • Krunicus and the Free Bird qualify if you consider Free Bird a "boss".
    • Nenico and M.A.T.D.A.K.
    • The Twins at the bottom of the Pit of 100 Trials.
  • Duel Boss: Xarpid VS the Count.
  • Eldritch Abomination:
    • All the bosses in the Count's sidequest including Colossus Count himself.
    • Chaos, the final boss of Dementia, is one.
  • Eldritch Location: Doom Dimension, Irnbrox's stage from the 3rd game. The Forum Depths also qualifies.
  • Evil Knockoff: The bosses of the Ruins are duplicates of Cryptghast and Exava, except with different skills.
  • Heads I Win, Tails You Lose: The Xarpid "fight" before the Valstriros fight. Of course, right after that, the Count appears and kicks Xarpid’s ass.
  • He Who Must Not Be Heard: Splatkirby. Literally the only thing he “says” is “...” unless you talk to him after beating the second game. He happens to have a relative you can get as a party member that's also silent.
  • Last Ditch Move: Dimentio's Parent Killer, Giygas’s unknown attacks, Adumrod’s Strength Gather, and Colossus Count’s Super Attacks just to name a few.
  • Lethal Lava Land:
    • Any stage with Mightymetagross as the boss. This doesn’t include Dark Mightymetagross’s stage.
    • Pyrox’s stage qualifies, with lava that you can walk in... at the cost of life.
  • Macross Missile Massacre: Nintendoandfriends’s most powerful attack. It has display text very similar to Valstriros’s “Barrage of Everything” attack.
  • Mythology Gag:
    • There are various jokes and dialogues that only members of the forum would know, such as Mightymetagross's opening dialogue in the first game or even the villain himself, Valstriros, who was born from a thread in News Bulletin on the actual forums.
    • otnayupidstay in the graveyard sidequest is actually a reference to otnayupidstay’s continuous deaths, both real life and in the series.
  • Nintendo Hard: Game 3. Its Extra Mode is not even.
  • Nonstandard Game Over: Some of the traps in Irnbrox's stage after you beat him. Also, if you choose the wrong choice while talking to Samnrak, he'll give you a Game Over.
  • One-Hit Kill: Dimentio, Giygas, Chaos, Dark Mightymetagross, Colossus Count, GLaDOS, Dark/Undead/Normal Jupiter Spark, Sausagefanclub, Xarpid, Kitten/Undead/Demon otnay, Valstriros (EX), Sprinkles (2.0), Ulamog, Sinistar, and Nightmare Conglomeration all have an attack that either (has a chance of) instantly killing a party member or causing an instant game over.
  • Plot Armor:
    • All of the forumers, Cryptghast, Exava, and Valstriros have eluded death.
    • Parodied. When speaking to Nintendoandfriends's clone, one possibility is he'll blow up, causing a game over, with the screen fading to black...and then coming back, with the characters namedropping this trope.
  • Puff of Logic: Burstman 723 disappears in game 2 after he discovers he never really existed.
  • Quirky Miniboss Squad: Every single boss in Dementia.
  • Sanity Slippage:
    • Sausagefanclub in game 2.
    • otnayupidstay does this for a postgame sidequest.
  • Seven Deadly Sins: The forumers and Valstriros represent this pretty well.
    • Lust: Mightymetagross
    • Greed: Valstriros
    • Envy: SFC, to a lesser extent.
    • Sloth: Splatkirby.
    • Wrath: otnayupidstay.
    • Pride: Nintendoandfriends.
    • Gluttony: The Count, also to a lesser extent.
  • Side Quest: Quite a few.
  • Squishy Wizard: Exava from the second game.
  • There Are No Tents: In games 1 and 2, talking to the Maid is the only way to sleep and recover your party.
  • They Killed Kenny Again: otnayupidstay has died so many times it's not even funny.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Free Bird.
  • Villain Forgot to Level Grind: Magnus Von Grapple's rematch in game 2. We are NOT talking about Magnus von Grapple 2.0. Plus, you fight him with Mightymetagross, making him die 20% faster.
  • Wake-Up Call Boss: In the third game, Brobby will basically tell you that these games are done going easy. Adumrod also qualifies if you thought Game 3 wasn’t much of a step up from difficulty.
  • Walking Spoiler: Everything past the second half of the third game.
  • Womb Level: Subverted. The Forum Depths appear to be this, but it's revealed when you get to SFC that it's actually his hatred sprawled throughout the lair. Played straight in aesthetics, however.
  • You Cannot Grasp the True Form: otnayupidstay and Sausagefanclub have attacks like this, but the majority of Giygas's attacks are this.
