Verbal Tics in fan works.
- Authors Note: Sonic has a tendency to say "-a-" in between words since he switched nationalities with Mario. Presumably, Mario now has his Totally Radical style of talking.
- Hetalia: Axis Powers fanfic Gankona, Unnachgiebig, Unità
: Let's see...Italy's "Ve"...Italy suddenly speaking Japanese...characters in general suddenly speaking their native languages even if no one else understands it...yep. - Daneel Rush of TFF fame has given us Higashiyama Sayuri, the Little Miss Badass Kyuubi No Youko (who won her tails in a drunken bout of poker with Inari-sama) sealed inside of Uzumaki Naruto, who ends most every sentence with Mugyuu, the shortened Mugii, or (if her tails are mentioned or she's exceedingly happy) a "Wai!" followed by wagging her tails. Also in the same story is Higashiyama Yurine, Sayuri's aunt, who uses "Hawa" to much the same effect.
- Here, Ron's "Bloody Hell!" is lampshaded in that Draco finds it incredibly sexy and keeps asking him to say it.
- Tsuruya's father shares her Verbal Tic in Kyon: Big Damn Hero.
- Leif of soulless shell (Redwall) frequently ends sentences with "eh". Or at least those might be the points where the sentence is supposed to end, it's hard to tell.
- Touhou Project fandom likes to turn any odd noise that a character makes once in canon into a verbal tic. Examples include "mukyuu" for Patchouli, "aa-uu-" for Suwako, "unyuu" for Utsuho, and "myon" for Youmu. There are also ones that have become widespread in fanon despite never appearing in canon, such as "uu~" for Remilia.
- A Transformers Fanfic that focused on the everyday operation of the Decepticons gave Astrotrain the verbal tic of 'Heh', which started all but his most important lines. One section from it was simply Gold.Starscream: We have an agenda, first, Astrotrain, please stop saying 'heh'...
Astrotrain: Heh. I can do that.
Starscream: Argh!
Astrotrain: Awh, come on! - Movie Zhao IS IN POSSESSION OF KNOWLEDGE FROM A SUPER SECRET SPIRIT LIBRARY!!1!... err, constantly talks about the Library! in Bring Me All Your Elderly!, because He Went There And Found A Scroll About The Moon And Ocean Spirits!... because he believes that he needs to remind the audience about the Library! all the time otherwise they'll forget. Bonus point for when the Library! has nothing to do with the discussion topic.
- Selene of Black Queen, Red King adds a "see" onto the beginnings or ends of about 1/4 of her lines.
- Danganronpa: Komm Susser Tod: Fittingly for her childish ways and her connections with frogs, Chie Midoriyama ends many of her sentences with "ribbit" or "croak".
- The Fundamental Essence of Villainy: As a side effect of the time travel, Izuku has picked up Tomura's canonical tendency to speak in video game terms.Izuku: This isn’t some single-player RPG. And, well, I’d call myself your "Player 2", but that’s too generous to you. No, compared to me? You’re a trash mob. Should’ve grinded for more EXP, bud.
- In Sonic the Hedgehog fanfic Prison Island Break, Shadow's Verbal Tic is the grunt "Hmmph." Sonic has learned to translate it into English.
- Pretty Cure Perfume Preppy:
- Lotus tends to finish her sentences in "desu".
- In episode 18, when Chiara was fused with Sophie the puppy, she ended her phrases with "-da wan".
- In episode 20, as a mermaid, Hanae ended her sentences with "pichi"; this suffix comes from "pichi pichi", the onomatopoeia of a fish blowing bubbles.
- Tsubo-kun (the Karlix denizens' butler) adds "-iran".
- In Friendship Is Magical Girls, Snips and Snails have "choki" and "noso", respectively.
- In Empath: The Luckiest Smurf, Empath's is his constant reference to himself as "this smurf", which he eventually loses over the years.
- In Yu-Gi-Oh! The Abridged Series, the ridiculously stereotypical American Bandit Keith from Yu-Gi-Oh! adds "In America!" to the end of most of his sentences. Parodied in the episode where he duels Joey; as Joey plays Copycat, he declares, "This lets me copy your Catchphrase... in America!"
- It was also parodied in Keith's second appearance, where during a duel between Joey and Zombie Boy Keith gloats how Joey will be defeated only for the latter to reply "Let me guess...'in America', right?" Keith defensively responds "I wasn't going to say that! ...(inamerica)."
- Also, Kemo (Pegasus' henchman, known as the "Nameless Henchman" in the series) constantly begins his sentences with "Attention, Duelists!" and narrates his actions and moods in the third person - but replacing references to himself with his (spectacularly pointy) hair. For instance, "My hair is inviting you to enter the castle!" or "Attention, duelists! My hair is assaulting you!" At one point, Keith and Kemo run into each other...Keith: [thinking] Man, that guy sure likes talking about his hair.
Kemo: [thinking] Man, that guy sure likes talking about America. - Same with Mai Valentine, who refers to herself as "My breasts".
- Tristan does the same thing with "My voice", though not nearly as often.
- Joey very often goes "NYEH!" for no reason, as a sort of sound for all occasions. He himself has no idea he's doing it, and seems not to hear it at all, wondering what Bakura means when he references the Nyeh-sound.
- Taken to extremes in one episode where, after being called out on his nyeh-ing, he then proceeds to sing the entire Abridged theme song in nyehs, ending with "Still not hearing it."
- There's also Marik Ishtar, who tends to use "Frig" in his sentences whenever he speaks.Marik: (offscreen) Oh, for the love of frig! Will you quit it already!?
- In Ultra Fast Pony, Pinkie Pie uses "bro" as (1) her default form of addressing everyone, and (2) an all-purpose interjection. Note that she has a stereotypical Kiwi accent, so it sounds more like "brew".
- In My Little Pony: The Mentally Advanced Series, Pinkie has "Yes" and Scootaloo has "Hoo!".
- In Junior Officers, Elekai only refers to authority figures as "sir/ma'am".
- Between the Lines (MrQuestionMark): In Chapter 42, the Sisters' "verbal tic" of self-narration and Third-Person Person is discussed.
- Glitter Force: Into the Glitterverse toys with this; when Pekorin falls to the Glitter Force and turned into Sugarboo, her "-peko" tic becomes "sugar".
- A Certain Droll Hivemind: Misaka-11111 continues the standard use of Narrating the Present from canon. Several people, especially her flatmate Aino Sumiko, try to get her to stop, with no success. Sumiko in particular points out that her narration tends to get especially long and snarky when she's annoyed. They're also surprised when she is able to narrate herself literally as she's waking up."'What is happening?' Misaka asks groggily," I said groggily, and yawned. "Also Misaka yawns," I added.
"Seriously? You seriously do the voice thing literally after you've slept through Kyoko's attempts to wake you up?" Aino Sumiko said, indicating her continual attempts to sabotage superior means of communication. "Why? Just, why?"
"...wow. That's commitment," Abe Eiko said. - In The Prince and the Thief, being a glitched-out robot, Robo-Fizz will often stutter before defaulting to cursing.Robo-Fizz: I wanna be a real boy-oy-oy-oy-*crzzzk*-Bitch!
