Can you relate? Well like, this is a wiki that has all the 411 on the tricks and shiznits for writing like, made up stories. We dip into the barf bag of bogus and sort out the gnarly from the fresh so you can be all rad with your story telling grindage.
Tropes are devices and conventions that all the Bohos can know fer shur are like all up in the audience dudes' minds and expectations. Most definitely, tropes are not clichés. If you wanna get all, like, diction-o-rama, clichéd means "stereotyped and trite". In normal tawk, bunk and lame. Bunk and lame entries are so 1994. We are here to give cred to tropes and put them in the mix, not to make 'em moded.
The wiki is called "TV Tropes" because that's like our homefry. Over later days, our posse ('cuz, back then we had posses, back before posses were cool, then weren't) has crept out to include other media. Tropes toatally transcend the tube. They exist in life, as we will be so totally stoked to tell you. 'Cause like a lot of art, especially the totally rad arts, does its best to reflect life, tropes are likely to show up everywhere.
We are totally not like That Other Wiki. We're a buttload more informal. There Is No Such Thing as Notability, and no citations are needed. Not sure what a citations is, really. Something like a traffic ticket? Anyway. If your entry cannot gather any major lovin' by the Wiki Magic, it will just veg out and die. Until then, like, it will be available through the place where tropes go to network. We embrace the airhead and radical thought (and won't object to the occasional snark, either).
Click on "Troperville" in the menu on the upper left of any page to find the places where the troper community chill out to spew about, y'know, like whatever.
Go on, have fun.
