Go To

100 Italian films to be saved (Italian: 100 film italiani da salvare) is a list compiled in 2008 by a group of Italian critics including the famous Paolo Mereghetti and Morando Morandini. The project was supported by the Venice Film Festival.

It contains only the films from the glorious era, 1942-78. The idea that Older Is Better is underlying for the critical assessment of the Italian cinema.

It starts with the film Quattro passi fra le nuvole by Alessandro Blasetti, a proto-neorealist film. It ends with with Padre Padrone and The Tree of Wooden Clogs which won a Palme d'Or in 1977 and 1978 respectively. After that Italian cinema soured.
