Harvey Bernard Milk (May 22, 1930 - November 27, 1978) was an American politician who was the first openly gay elected official in California when he was elected to the San Francisco Board of Supervisors in 1978.
Milk previously served in the US Navy as a Lt. Junior Grade from 1951 - 1955 on the USS Kittiwake.
Along with Mayor George Moscone, Harvey was assassinated by Dan White at the age of 48.
